Well, I broke an upper rib, near my collar bone, so it's up high on my chest. I don't know how long it will keep me out, but I'm limited in terms of how my left hand can move. In fact, I may have to keep it in a sling.

I can't push directly outward when there's weight involved. Basically, up and down movement is fine, but I can't bench press with a barbell, or even small dumbells, nor can I do pushups.

My question is, what type of things can I do with dumbells to prevent my arm from becoming lethargic and weak after reduced use in daily life. I can do dumbell curls, but what what exercises would be best for my forearm and triceps, keeping in mind I can't push outward or go across my chest?

All help is appreciated. Thanks.

Don't do any dumbbell work outs but rather swimming. It is so much less impact and your legs will also get a work out. It also helps your cardio and will let you get back a range of motion safer than dumbbell works.

I'd just heal bro, the swimming sounds like a great idea though, low impact but challenging.

you really shouldnt be asking for advice on this topic, someone could unintentionally give u advice that could only make matters worse since u are injured. i would think you just have to chill with the workouts for a while, but talk to a trainer if you have one in your school.

If you were to get a stress ball and squeeze that it should work wonders keeping your forearm nice and strong. Even squeezing a tennis ball would work too...

Plus this way its pretty safe and i don't see you hurting yourself... But really i would ask a sports doctor what exercises you can and can't do. You may do more harm then anything by pushing yourself.

I just joined my HS swim team to get in shape for lacrosse season. It is a great way to excercise. Good cardiosvacular and a good upper body work out.
