haha this song is very very catchy. First time I heard it I thought it was another awful rap song (chicken noodle soup-worst song in the entire world) but 2 hrs later i found myself humming it. And yes I did download it. It has now grown on me.

The first time i heard it i didnt like it. But then it got stuck in my head. And now i like it. But every time i turn it on, i always think how dumb the beat in the beginning is, then when they start rapping i like it again.

Do your ears hang low?
Do they wobble to and fro?
Can you tie them in a knot?
Can you tie them in a bow?
Can you throw them o'er your shoulder
Like a Continental Soldier?
Do your ears hang low?

Do your ears hang high?
Do they reach up to the sky?
Do they wrinkle when they're wet?
Do they straighten when they're dry?
Can you wave them at your neighbor
With an element of flavor?
Do your ears hang high?

Do your ears hang wide?
Do they flap from side to side?
Do they wave in the breeze
From the slightest little sneeze?
Can you soar above the nation
With a feeling of elevation?
Do your ears hang wide?

Do your ears fall off
When you give a great big cough?
Do they lie there on the ground
Or bounce up at every sound?
Can you stick them in your pocket
Just like Davy Crocket?
Do your ears fall off?

People are making money off a nursery song??
Some girl was singing it in class the other day, so I made fun of her until she was near tears. Like, there's near tears, and then there's near tears. She was near tears.

It was completely necessary.

For soccer we listened to it throughout double sessions and everyone was completely obsessed with it, so now before games after we say our prayer we get into a circle, lean from side to side and hum it. It's so stupid, but funny to watch.

Why do you guys listen to such lame music? Holy crap. Today I listened mainly to Sonic Youth (as usual), Yeah Yeah Yeahs and The Fall. With some other stuff. Like, a lot of other stuff, like The Pixies, Postal Service (I am falling in love with about 80% of Give Up), Radiohead, et cetera. Like, why does everybody fall in love with this lame rap stuff? Give it up and go read Pitchfork, then be like, oh, so, this is what good music sounds like. Or Cokemachineglow. Or the link in my signature. Yeah, click on that link. Read that article by that brilliant guy. Then read more of his reviews. Listen to him. He is awesome.

I like Lil' Wayne and Islands. I like Juelz Santana and Mars Volta. Just because someone likes a song doesn't mean they listen to lame music.

I'm sorry but this is so typical of indie rock heads. Kind of a "holier-than-thou" attitude when it comes to music because you know bands that we don't. I'm guilty of this too though....I think its a prerequisite for indie rock/underground hip hop heads.

i will listen to rap for short periods of time say 30 minutes and when when im in the car or at a party/dance/club... its catchy it has trick nasty beats thats why people like it... there isnt much meaning about MAINSTREAM rap of today but hey ADD society as long as its catchy thats all their looking for... I myself love indie/rock and purevolume.com is one of my favorite sites i could be abnoxious and name bands that you dont know and tell you your music sucks and mine is much better... but it makes no sense its personal preference and what you think sounds good....

getting to the point.. that songs chorus is baller but i dont like the other parts nearly as much

Holier than thou, whatever. I'm just bored of everybody in the world settling for a cheap trick. I'm far from original. Everybody listened to the music I listen to WAY before me. I was 6 months behind the indie kids on Arcade Fire. That's not my point. I'm just sick of every single kid from 13-30 acting like these songs are so effing rad all the time when in two weeks they'll be forgotten. Because there are those of us that have to hear them all the time because our roommates are like, "OH, THIS SONG IS THE FREAKING DORM ROOM THEME FOR THE WEEK!" Sheesh, I have no patience for popular rap. You want to listen to some solid rap? Listen to Busdriver. He's too good to get big, or at least get a hit and then be forgotten. I hate the one-hit wonders. These rap artists get forgotten even faster than pop rock, like falloutboy and crap. I am on a mission to help people stop listening to crappy music. I am currently listening to Sonic Youth, the second best band of all time. Follow my lead. I'm so sick of being called a stuck up indie kid. Indie kids are stuck on themselves because they found their bands first. I have never found my bands first. Exception is me going to concerts and hearing bands I've never read about, like Voxtrot and Busdriver, and loving them, and then sharing it with all my friends, but I don't freaking get a rise out of saying I found them out first. That's why I'm not a stupid indie kid. I listen to good music. That's all. And then I get frustrated when people settle for crappy music. See? Frustration. BECAUSE I LOVE YOU! Haha.

You make basically the same post in every music thread. You take music way to seriously. Nobody is saying this is one of the best songs ever, or even that Jibbs is a decent rapper. Almost everybody agrees that the song is kind of stupid, but catchy and fun to listen to.
You always talk about these amazing bands that you like, but I've listened to 99% of what you posted and I don't like it, with the exception of Sonic Youth. Quality music has nothing to do with the skill or talent put into the song, but the musical taste of the listener.

Dan

Wrong. Absolutely wrong. There is good music like there is good literature, good art and good anything. There is bad music like there is bad literature, bad art and bad anything. Read the article in my signature. Seriously. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you're right. Almost every single popular band is terrible. Which is why they don't last. Why do you think Ben Gibbard is so able to do so many projects? Like, Postal Service, Death Cab, solo stuff, whatever? Because he's talented and creative. I'm not a huge Gibbard fan, but he was killer on stage. There are plenty of good bands that aren't getting any attention because their music isn't simple enough. It doesn't resonate with our idiot teenage populous enough. Our ignorant pop culture. Too stupid to listen to good music, too ignorant to read good books, or read in general, too inane to watch good movies or good TV. Of course I take this seriously. If we take the time to invest in quality, it will come back and benefit us twofold. How many of you have iPods full of music, but only listen to 10% of it? I haven't filled mine up because I don't have enough music that I want to listen to right now. Sure, it's forever growing, but at this point I haven't got 20 gigs to put on it. This is a whole generation of kids going downhill and it totally blows. That's why I care. Everybody thinks I'm a dick for taking this so freaking seriously, but this is only one part. I take it seriously because it matters in many ways. Everybody just wants to shrug off their responsibility to soceity. We owe so much to it, and everybody just takes it all for granted. I'm not talking about being super environmentally friendly, I'm talking about being socially concious. We are all contributors to soceity, to that "Stupid American" stereotype. Everybody seems to be able to fit into a mold and it totally blows. I'm at college and it's so annoying to have 90% of the girls be almost exactly alike in personality. "Oh, I like country. Not just country! I like some rock, like falloutboy and dashboard." Wow. Thank you, generic girls. I totally understand why my friend isn't having a good time here. We're just getting dumber with every second of bad music we listen to, believe it or not. We're getting simpler and simpler. Our pavlovian responses are so easy to turn on now. It's so easy to become a pop musician. So simple to have "it." Yeah, it involves luck, but it's a lot harder to become a successful independent artist for a reason. They usually have to be pretty freaking good. I mean, I don't love Bloc Party, but they were good, and while they didn't deserve to be at the top of the heap in 05 or whenever their album came out, they deserved it a lot more than whoever was hot in 05. Let's just say I'm glad that the White Stripes are still pretty popular and that Jack White is doing well. Music could be a great contributer to our soceity and is currently acting as a great detriment. How terrible. I know none of you will take me seriously and just think I'm a regular old indie kid dickhead, but I seriously don't care. We have no self-awareness anymore. We just kind of bumble along and think that we can do whatever we please and it won't matter. I'm pretty sure there have been 4 school shootings in the last month. There are signs everywhere that we're becoming a degenerative soceity. I'm just up for doing my part to change that.

It matters because music is such a humongous, influential part of our soceity. Millions of kids are growing up as mindless liberals because of the lyrics of musicians, instead of deciding their views for themselves. Me? I decided for myself. I know what I want from a politician. I'm really centrist in a lot of ways, with libertarian leanings. Green Day affected freaking a ton of kids. Music is one of the most pervasive things in our culture. I'm okay with that. I just want it too be good. I'm not concerned with how hard music is to play. I can play my favorite Modest Mouse song on guitar. I mean, that's pretty easy. They lyrics are loaded with meaning, though. 3rd Planet. Awesome song, download it or something. I think in the last 100 years soceity has steadily spiraled downhill while technology has jumped through the roof over and over again. It's just kind of frusturating because my kids are going to be raised in a world that's going to be 10 or 15 years worse, more like 20 when they start high school and stuff. Well, 20-25. That's a quarter century and it scares the crap out of me because I had such a hard time. I think that if we, as a soceity, learn to appreciate the arts, literature, et cetera, we'll overall learn to appreciate each other and the beauty of life more. I know, hippie way of thinking, but I'm just sure that the more you take life for granted the more you ignore how awesome life is.

Do you know what I think if freaking hilarious? Reading your post here, and then reading your little "location" below your username.

So whats the difference between that and P Diddy's "Vote or Die" campaign?
As soon as Boulevard of Broken dreams became popular all the hardcore green day heads where like "oh, I like their earlier albums but now they suck."

I agree with you on many parts but truth be told, all indie kids are mostly dickheads when it comes to music, myself included. Your main objective is to help others listen to "better" music right? I admire that. If you keep saying mainstream music is "lame" and that it "sucks," however, you are going to alienate everyone that you hope to enlighten. Your motives are good but in reality your execution is poor. That's why "good" music stays underground. The indie/underground community have an inherent "holier than thou" personality when it comes to music (as i've said before). Don't take this as a flame, i'm just like you. I just think that that's the problem between the indie/underground vs. the mainstream. The indie kids think they are better because they listen to "good" music, and the mainstream kids get pissed off because they keep getting flamed for their music choice. The rift gets wider and wider.

Ah, the old location thing. I better change that. I am a more serious these days. The carefree days are over! Haha, but, you know, that was like a year ago or something when we discovered the secret of the location box. Word. Well you kids have a nice day. I get to see Yo La Tengo on the 12th.

Mainstream doesn't always suck. Most bands that are mainstream do suck. I'm so freaking stoked when a band I love goes big. Like, Strokes? Cool. Franz Ferdinand? Good for them. Not a big deal to me at all. That's pretty much one of the bigger differences between me and the indie kids. But I totally see what you're saying. It's just frusturating, is all. The rift. You don't want it to be there but in a sense you don't want your community of indieness broken. I just share my stuff all the time, though, I'd rather have everybody be whoring off of my music than not have access to it.

I think I speak for everybody that likes this song when I say, sorry, G, we weren't trying to.. poze..I'm not sure what this song has to do with the ghetto (I'm not sure if you were referring to being ghetto or being in a ghetto when you said "if you have no idea what its like u freaking pozers"), I was under the impression it was about necklaces.

So? i don't see you complaining because some kid becomes overley conservative because he watches fox news.

People are goin to be influenced by the culture that they are surronded by and there are much more worrying things out there than some 13 year old kid becoming a liberal bacuse he listened to american idiot.

I'm sorry I didn't complain about every single thing that ails our country. Personally, the biggest problem is people getting addicted to porn. You missed my entire point. Good job.

PS: Endtroducing.... by DJ Shadow is awesome.
