So im playing fall ball and im playing crease. im keeping an eye on my guy and the attackman on the left beats his man. The Defender doesn't yell slide and I just stand there until I realize he's about to score. Was this my fault for not looking over or was it the other Defender's fault for not communicating or maybe even Both? tell me what you think this happened two or three times with different situations.

It's both of your faults. But just because he doesn't yell for help doesn't mean he doesn't need it. If ever slide early and double the ball and strip it and then work it up field. Everyone needs to be communicating and the person whose closest to the ball should be sliding with the person farthest from the ball having to split two, his originial man and now the guy you left.

Beaver hit it straight on, you really need to keep your head on a swivel so you are always able to keep an eye on your man and the man with a ball incase your other D man needs help, but, on the other hand your D needs to communicate, constantly talk, let eachother know whos got who and who's hot, and if you need help, let the whole world know it.

Also the goalie should be helping too. Hes supposed to be the commander of the defense and should be yelling out slide also

I would say depending on the defensive slide package you are running.
If you are sliding from the crease then yes its your fault. But if your slideing COMA (Come across the crease slide) then it is not your fault. I have used the COMA slide with my Varsity teams all the way down to my 5th and 6th grade teams I think it is easier to run and much more effective. And you goalie will love you because there will be no more easy goals from the crease.

Yeah but if your running a COMA sliding defense with fill it really screws your slides up because the defense is collapsed. Everyone should be helping everyone.

Kinda a side note but when you slide, don't in the habit of trying to strip the ball. You've got a 6 foot pole, use it as a probe, poke them in the stomach with it then when your close enough and forced them to one side with the shaft, drop your shoulder and show them whose house their in.

You can say what you may about Coma but if you play by two simple rules
Never give topside from behind and never give the middle from the top.

We do not slide if the man gets topside. That is the defenders fault and he will find himself on the bench if it happens. From behind if the man is never able to get topside, hat makes him do one of two things one inside roll which your goalie should be on the pipe waiting for or roll back and feed the ball back through X. In both situations the shots are not good shots. And if your worried about the middy up top cutting to the ball or receiving a skip pass thats fine I know most goalies rather see a shot come from a middie up top rather then a attackman open on the crease.

Oh, Coma is a great defense, I'm not debating that. I was just saying that if you did slide from middle a COMA slide doesn't make sense with the system that would probally be in.
