Kidding me bro speed is good for every postion I am the exact same size and weight, I play d pole and LSM I run a 4.9-5.0 40 and played half JV and half Varisty my freshman year now I'm a sophmore, but answer to your question is yes because if you were super fast you would be a middie for those quick break-aways and, defense you need to be able to push kids around and lay them out so I vote your good for D

Tough to say, size isn't everything. If your strong and got stick skills you should be good. Just be agressive.

just know...that size never matters, its talent. work on your speed, work on your stick skills, maybe a roll dodge for those situations of getting the ball up the field if a middie isnt open, maybe you can workout a little---you cant be too prepared for lacrosse. i saw on your pro u play football, that will definetely help. u said you have good speed, but not great...work on that, do sprints and long distance. if you stay dedicated, it will be worth it

It doesn't nesserally matter what you weigh you can be skinny and have the best checks and speed or be big and have a big hit an slow and bad stick skills. it all depends on what you work on.

Im 5'11'' and weigh 140 lbs i definatley wasn't the biggest kid on the team i was better than the bigger kids. ITs all about your stick skills and agillity, i could also run the ball down feild better than most kids on my team, so size doesn't really matter

Well yeah, but if you're big, fast, and have awesome checks, you're going to be much better than somebody that's small, fast, and has awesome checks.

The harsh reality is taht size is incredibly important, just ask any D1 coach. There are few short defensemen playing high level lacrosse. It just is not a practice of any team. As for weight, it should be the weight that allows you to maximize a combination of speed and strength (muscle mass). Most D1 defense men are from 6' to 6'4" and weigh around 200, give or take. Obviously, there are exceptions, but this is true as a gneraliztion.

ya but you got figure even though they're both fast the smaller kid will probably be just a little bit faster (generally speaking) & the bigger kid will hit a bit harder (generally speaking)...Like someone else said it all depends...I know a guy that is slow for a college athlete (like 4.9 40ish time) but he throws massive checks & plays excelent position to where he normally never gets beat but when he does he isn't one of the guys that is gunna come out w/ this sudden burst of speed & catch his guy w/ a trailing check; however, there are other people that may not have as strong of checks or play position as well as he but they have legs & lungs of steel & don't stop until the whistle blows. It's hard to say which is best so my suggestion is that you just try & be the ebst all around athlete that you can (by lifting, running, practicing, playing sports other than lacrosse & keeping active)

After looking at a few college and then almost every MLL roster, a 6'1 200 pound defenseman is about the average.
for highschool you can get away with smaller-but put on a little bit of muscle without loosing all of your speed, and like any good lacrosse player:learn your position(footwork, stickchecks, etc..)

it starts and ends with hard work. the harder you work in the offseason, the easier the regular season will seem.
