Nevada schools are giving sophmores the opportunity to take the pre SAT for free. Ive been studying and all but I need some ideas to help me remember what I studied. If youve taken this test: How did you study for it? and How did you do?
Im glad that I get to take them. Anyone else taking them this year?

her in new jersey my school is doing the same thing. i actually took it last year too. basically, all i did was a few problems every night from a test booklet. don't kill yourself over it yet though. junior and senior is were you really need to focus

you dont need to study and i bet your taking the practice PSAT not the real one since your school wouldn't pay for everyone to take the real one. Also you dont need to study much

im pretty sure youre taking the real one, but it doesnt count yet. last year at our school all the sophomores took it and got their scores back, but it didnt count for national merit stuff. i know it wasnt a practice because the same questions were on the junior version too

at my school you take the PSAT ( i think thats what your talking about) freshman, sophomore, and junior year in october. then later junior year you take the SAT and ACT. sophomore year you also take the PLAN test, which is like the practice ACT.

in terms of studying for it, there are practice tests. also get a good nights sleep and eat a good breakfast before you take it

I dont understand why people study for the PSAT. The PSAT is supposed to a practice for the SAT so why would you study for a practice? Well, i guess unless you're a genious and could be one of the 200-300 students to get the National Merit Scholarship thing. Why practice for the PSAT, just practice for the SAT. Doing PSATs for practice is stupid

you study for the PSAT because you get a ton of money if you make the cutoff.

Take the test a few times. The only way to study is to get used to it.

Don't worry about it. The results are just to let you know what you need to work on before taking the SAT. Don't get stressed over something that doesn't even matter.

even at the national merit semifinalist stage, which shouldnt be that hard, you get a bit of money i think

to qualify to be a nation merit scholar, you need to be in the top 1% of all the students in the nation who take the test.

not that hard? you must be a genius.......

ok i didnt want to make another thread on this, but is it a good idea to take the psat's without ever taking a psat class. because im a sophmorer and we got the letter that you can take it for 20$ but i never had a psat question in my life

out of 16000 semifinalists, 15000 get finalist status (meaning you qualify to be a national merit scholar) so basically if you meet the cutoff for your state, you should be able to be a finalist. i never said it was ridiculously easy, but if you study a bit and dont screw up, it shouldnt be that bad. a little more than 1/3 of our junior class last year got national merit semifinalist status, and theyre applying to be finalists now. It also depends on your state. in some states like lousisiana(i think thats one of them) the cutoff is like 203-204. in virginia, the cutoff is like 218 or so. so depending on where you live, and how much effort you put into getting it, it should be attainable.

dta06, i would recommend you take it. it helps you see where you are for the SAT and what you need to study more
