I don't know how many of you people know him from this board, but if you've ever been to brine's board, you definitly would. He recently passed away:

Benjamin Patrick Joyce was pronounced dead Sunday morning at the of age 18 at Potomac Hospital. He died from an apparent drug overdose. Benjamin Joyce was going to be a sophomore at the University of West Virginia in the fall. He played on the college lacrosse team. He is survived by his parents, Ben and Patty, sisters Elizabeth and Elisha, and brother Michael. An obedient son, a loyal friend, and an excellent student athlete, Benjamin will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Friends describe Benjamin with words like 'perseverance' as well as 'carefree,' and say Benjamin had good heart and really cared about others. There will be an open memorial on Wednesday, June 16, at Colonial Funeral Home, 6161 Leesburg Pike, Falls Church, Virginia.

it's sad really, escpecially because he had made a thread about how he was interested in trying cocaine on the brine boards.

wow...i didn't know him but that is terrible. People need 2 realize the decisions they make not only effect themselves but other people as well. God rest his soul and my heart goes out to his family and friends.

yeah, but i don't believe it. it's only on that obituary. look, i was going to make a thread about this too, but then i saw that it was posted by charlottelax, who is a bigot and a sexist from the brine boards, and also that only one site has that obituary information.

snuffi called the funeral home, and the person said she couldn't find the name.

why would snuff call the funeral home i think until someone comes out and says it's a joke we should all just be respectful and not ask those kind of questions R.I.P

wow... That is only supposed to happen to people you don't know. It shows you how real the drug problem is in america.

Because I wanted to know. I didn't ask any descriptive questions. All I did was call the funeral home and ask "Are you hosting the funeral of Benjimen Joyce" She said she would check and then that she didn't find anything, she asked if I wanted to leave a message and I said "No, that is fine, thank you.".

It's sad that we have to question something like this, but until I'm given a source, I'm not believing it. CharlotteLax on the Brine boards is probably the last person I'd trust there. For those who didn't know, bpjoyce made a topic about cocaine less than a week ago, and the replies in that topic just seem too similar to what actually happened. For example, bpjoyce insisted on using cocaine, even though just about everyone there told him not to do it. CharlotteLax, however, acted a bit too anxious for him to go through with it, saying things like "Just do it" and "So you ARE going to do it???". Then bpjoyce replied "I'll let you know how it was on sunday or monday". I'm sorry, but I can't make myself trust CharlotteLax. If another respected member had posted it, I probably would have believed it though. Searches for his obituary in several washington and west virginia newspapers came up with nothing, as well as him not being listed at the funeral home. Sorry to be skeptical about something so sensitive, but everything just doesn't add up. In the case that I'm completely wrong about this whole thing, RIP bpjoyce. I didn't know you well, and I didn't agree with all of your opinions, but I wouldn't want something like this to happen to anyone.

That is so messed up if it's not true...if I knew some one who did die from a drug related problem I would be completely offended that someone would think of it as a joke to trick people online. Until proven wrong I will still feel bad but if it is just a lie then I feel bad for any one who was involved with it because they have some serious issues and need help if they think something like that is funny.

I dont think BP or Charlotte would ever stoop that low, at least I would hope not. If it is a joke, its a very sick one, and one that I dont think they would play. For now I got to say RIP BEN.

I should hopefully have some definite answers to this by tomorrow. It just doesn't make sense. The only obituary is on a free online site, and an incorrect memorial date was given.

I just looked up his account on TLF. His last post was 6/11. His last visit/activity was 6/15.

Someone logged on with his account on TLF. Either he is alive or someone has his password and log in info.

At this point, It appears to be a joke.

Yep not funny at all, IMO death isnt something that you should mess around with because you put people in bad posotions making them feel badly when you are alright. It is just low and a crappy thing to do

[i'm gonna edit the stuff I said here, cause this is probably a joke and I dont want the stupid brine board people mocking me being scared :cry ]

hopefully it is a rumor

this is messed up, I dont wanna say too much because I'm not sure and this is a touchy subject, but what I'm seeing it all seems like a joke to me

on the brine boards he talked about cocaine like way back in march and they were talking about how he was gonna die and all. Then this guy comes up with a link to the funeral directory and its made on a free website where you can write your own obituaries, he said that he found the link by 'doing a lot of searching' or something... it's really hard to find a link like that

i dunno man, i was kinda exaggurating, but I'm just saying I got all worried after the first post I read on this thread. I'm sure others got a little anxious also.

Its the dudes fault for getting into all that stuff when he had such a good life infront of him....i feel remorce for the guy but people do this to them selves....DONT DO DRUGS

gKash187
06-15-2004, 11:19 PM
His fault or not, the fact is that he is still dead and there's nothing that can be done to change that. It's common manners to not dwell on how somebody died, rather focus on the fact that they are gone and bring comfort to others who need it.

But of course he's not dead, this is all just a terrible, terrible joke.

Whoever wrote that obituary should be shot.
You never mention what the person died from, especially something as negative as a "drug overdose."

It's a sick joke.

BPJoyce posted on the Brine Board 06/16/04 7:47AM:
"oh man i cant take this anymore. sorry guys, if this was offensive in any way, but we had been planning this for days and i just wanted to see how far it would go. getting to lacrosseforums is pretty far. i was surprised they could check that i was on. i went on and instantly logged off, i didnt know there was something that kept a log of everyone who was on. but really, sorry if youre offended by this, it wasnt meant to be offensive, i just wanted to see peoples reactions. slacker, you seemed to take it pretty bad, im sorry"

Oh, and in case anyone still believes that he's dead, I contacted WVU yesterday and they said that he was not dead.

06-16-2004, 09:05 AM
wow, whod you call at WVU? im impressed that you guys went to pretty extreme measures to find out if it was true. snuff, you actually called the funeral home in virginia. dont you live in like michigan? anyways, im sure some of you have lost what little respect you may have had for me, but im sorry if i offended anyone, really.

I don't hate to say I told you so. Though it seems as if "poisoning" wasn't strong enough wording. It just shows how little respect for anyone - much less the younger and impressionable members - this kid has. I say Ban Him.

hey pal, ive made abotu 20 posts on lacrosseforums. this whole thing started at brine, and within 20 minutes, it was over here. im guessing it would have been over here even if i had never registered here, so dont say that im poisoning your board when you get three pages on my death within 18 hours

Sir Lax
06-16-2004, 09:18 AM
BPJoyce, that was a lousy joke. The lacrosse community has dealt with a lot of tragedies these past couple of years and every time something happens to another fellow player, we are sadden by the event. Whether we know you personally or not, to play a joke like that and to to keep it going for a few days defines your character.

I had a close family member and a friend of the family die within the past two weeks. Two funerals in two weeks.

What was the purpose of your joke? To get a good laugh? Well, it was not funny.

bpjoyce10
06-16-2004, 09:22 AM
actually, it was not for the laugh, it was to see peoples reaction to the death of a person they had never met, never spoken to, and never even seen. none of you actually know me, and you still treated me like a friend. it was interesting.

anyways, this board is interesting, and helpful, but when it comes to anything infringing on PCness, i cant take it. for those of you who hate me, i have nothing to say to you. for those of you who took this a little lighter-heartedly, thanks
