Anyone have any good tips on stick protection? My coach has been telling me that its something that I could improve on, and i've been trying. Just some general tips would be great. I can play both handed, and i'd like some tips for stick protection while cradling both handed, and also one handed
Thanks!

try to keep the stick close you you when you are cradling, not away from your body. when doing one handed cradling, have your free hand extended and your hand down near your hip. kinda like an upside down L its hard to explain. heres a picture http://eteamz.active.com/cometslacrosse/images/1on1cradle.gif

when ur cradling one handed have your free hand extended with your thumb pointing down at the ground....when u do split dodges your stick should come ear to ear and your hands should stay inside your numbers....

What some kids down here do is keep their stick away from their body while one-handed cradling. This makes it easier for the stick to be checked. Keep it close to you. Anothing thing people do is fully extend their stick to pass or shoot while in traffic. That just leaves room for it to be checked. Try to extend your stick less while in traffic.

Exactly...even though most coaches say, "keep those arms extended!". This will just lead to you getting stripped at higher levels.

walk like a duck... put your hands up to your shoulders, thats where you need to keep your stick. with your free arm make it like an "L" and have your hand even w/ the stick head. The upside down L isnt too good b/c its easy for some defenders to just poke check the head of your stick that way.
Both handed, keep one hand near the butt-end (or on it) and put your other hand a little below the throat and keep your stick in the box area.

no hanging your stick out or above you. that makes your stick a target.

a good way to make sure u have good protection with one handing the stick is look in the mirror.....hold the stick in one hand and if any of the stick is poking out and u can see it then ur stick is not protected

i was taught to cradle by my ear. it works, but the mirror thing is the best thing to practice with. i also walk around and pretend to cradle using good stick protection, i prolly look like an idiot but ive gotten pretty good at it. And also just run you butt off when u have the ball, most college players dont have that good of stick protection but there just so fast that there defenseman cant throw any decent checks.
