if you wanna be ablo to block that low 5 hole shot,, you gotta wwatch that stick really well,, usually it will very high up right in between ur legs,,you might take this into consideration but maybe not,,,, when he takes the shot close up your thigs and legs,,, sal lo cascio did it all the time the great goalie in 1998

You want to be like a spring get really low and explode, follwing the bounce with your stick.

basically the only way to black the 5 hole is get down a bit and put your stick between your legs. you want to sandwich your stick between your legs and tit your stick back a bit. against bounce shots the only real way to block is to step into it. watch the angle its shot at and step toward it.

Make sure that when you get down to stop it, your head of the stick is touching the ground. If not, it could justbounce through your legs. Oh, and step to the ball.

Alright...so far we have 4 answers. 3 are just WRONG. The 4th could be correct but is too unbelievably vague to be considered a rational thought so, being the most skilled goalie on the forum, I'll describe it as well as I can without being able to show you.
All of my advice applies to the goalie position from a right-handed perspective, since I am right-handed.
As with any shot, you want to step. This helps you cut off the angle and keep your body's surface area as large as possible so as to take any bouncers not stopped by the stick off of the body and possibly deflect them. Your step SHOULD NOT be flat. It also should not be straight at the shooter. Every player steps differently. I prefer a 60 degree step...more towards the shooter but not straight at him. The most advantageous I can recommend to a beginner would be a 45 degree angle. You want to step to a 45 degree angle and react with your hands to the shot while bringing your trail foot through.
Now, for the infamous below the knees/bounce shot. Let's say it's a stick-side bounce shot that will bounce just inside the crease. I attack the ball by getting my hands way out in front of me, making sure the scoop of my head hits the ground, bend my knees a generous amount, and step with my right foot towards the shooter in order to not allow the shot to bounce and create its desired effect. As I bring my left foot through, I punch my left hand out to kill the rebound created by the ball hitting my mesh.
That is generally how every save should look for a bounce shot. Any questions, put em up and I'll address em.
:nofear: thanks. to the dude who started this thread, are you a beginner or have you benn playing, cause as dimwitted as this guy thinks I am, I do coach two beginner goalies and I can help you if you just want to PM me. If you have benn playing for a while, you should just listen to "the most skilled goalie on the forum" everything he said is right.

Just because you coach two beginner goalies does not mean a thing. Anybody can coach beginner goalies. I know guys who I graduated from hs with who played attack who weren't even that good at attack who coached beginner goalies and really screwed them up.
When I go home, I put on clinics for 20 goalies from all different levels at a time. Does that mean a thing? No, not really. Except that I know what I'm talking about and know the position of goalie through and through.
Wow buddy. I've seen several of your posts around the forums and I'm disgusted. All you ever do is rip apart other members in an arrogant and egotisitcal tone of voice. You've played goalie a few years, congratulations. You play goalie in college, again congratulations. But you have the AUDACITY to claim to be the most skilled and smartest goalie on TLF? You need to get your ego in check, and start producing contructive posts for ONCE.

You need to learn a little modesty Xeclipse19. A truely great goalie, a goalie worthy of a D1 title, should not be proud to be arrogant. You should not have the attitude that others are jealous, because I certainly am not. I play the game because I love the game, I dont care who plays in what Division or where. It doesnt bother me, it doesnt concern me.
What concerns me is when an egotistical goalie, of any level of experience, claims to be superior over others. Who cares who you play for, or in what division? I just dont like you openly calling yourself the best goalie here. Think it, but dont push it in everyones faces. While your advice may be great, not many people like the snobby attitude you ususally post with it.
I've personally learned alot from your posts, but I dont like the arrogance that usually accompanies them.

I agree with you on certain things. Others, I do not. Yes, striving to perfection can bring great results. Striving to be perfect is also extremely rewarding. But if your team does not strive to reach that same perfection; a goalie is worth nothing.
I fought to keep us in the game, every game. Maybe second place was the best we could do because certain players did not push themselves to the limit. If the team doesn't put forth the effort that the goalie does, its usually very tough to achieve Perfection.

the both of you need to chill...Xeclipse has proven time and time again that he is quite knowledgeable about his position. D1 goalie on this forum is something worthy of praise.
He may be egotistical at times, but everything he says is full of value and much can be learned from him. Why I may not agree with the way he says his piece, the content in it is certainly worthy.
Solstice, you were not even apart of this thread and offered nothing positive to the discussion. If the author of the thread had a problem with Xeclipse's tone, he could have gone to a mod and sorted it out.
Sorry mods for sticking my nose in places it doesnt belong

But Solstice, shut up. I am the best goalie on the forum, to my knowledge. Name one other goalie that plays at the D1 level. The closest I know of is stinisonfire and, although I have never seen him play, I know that he is a qualified, competant goalie because he plays in college, as I do. Yes, I am arrogant. I've been called worse and still don't care because the only people who complain about it are people that are jealous. If you have a problem with my attitude, ignore it but value my posts because its not often that I am wrong.
That is all.
yeah robert morris ripped it up last season.

Wow. Thats what I said in my above post genius. But thanks for quoting it for emphasis.
Now seriously, just let it rest. I'm done.

What did I just say? I'm not going to get into a fight on a message board. Obviously, you don't play division 1 or even decent D2 or D3 because, to my knowledge, there are no good D2 or D3 schools in Maine and there definitely aren't any D1 teams there.
But keep talking trash. Could you even step on a D1 field without being embarrassed? Doubtful. Later, bro.
dont they still let the kids shot on net at half time?

This thread is being closed for the fact that you guys can't keep on topic, and for some reason, flaming and trolling mean very little or nothing to you all. If a thread starts to get out control, whether comments are getting off-topic or they're even being directed at you, hit the report button. It's there for a reason. Each and every one of you had the chance to be a big kid and just move on. Instead, you chose to continue the arguing and flaming. Bad choice.
Honestly, we play lacrosse because we love it. Whether you play MLL,NLL, D1, D2, D3, JuCo, Club, Varsity, JV, Modified or at any other level, enjoy the game for what it's worth and help spread the game. These forums are here to help people, not put them down. If you have nothing productive to add to the conversation or don't understand how to say something without insulting others, don't bother posting it. I don't have the time to clean up your crap, neither do the other moderators. You all should know better no matter what level you're playing at; don't let it happen again.
