ok well i got into an aruguement with a friend about lifting weights and burning calories. isnt it true that when you lift weights now only do you burn some calories from working out, getting your metabolism and body going. etc... ok on a differnt note i was wondering when you are working a certain muscle dont you burn calories in that area? also does muscle replace fat?
thanks

Yes, No, and No.
Muscle doesn't turn into fat which is what I think you ment by "replace". Yes lifting wieghts burns calories. No you dont burn the fat in that area. The only way to target a certain part of your body is to not too. Lower your body fat and that will get rid of fat in those hard to reach areas i.e love handles.

By muscle by replacing fat I think he means if you lift for a while will all the fat in a certain muscle area be muscle instead of fat. No, if you have fat on you and you lift, you will gain muscle, but the fat won't turn into muscle. You might lose some fat from lifting, but you can't just work one muscle and have the fat around that muscle turn into pure muscle.
