Hey guys,
Trying to get back into faceoffs and work them alot for the season. I want to get recording of down set (whistle) and play them on my ipod with speakers to simulate a ref. The problem is my phone just got stolen so that was what i was going to use to get from me saying it onto my ipod. I was wondering if anyone has done anythign similar and maybe have a audio file of them going down... set... whistle that they could send to me or put on a site for me to download....

I posted this in a similar thread before - I read an article about a college fo man that did this during preseason. I forgot the college but he said he helped him a lot

i think alex smith had it on his ipod of just a whistle blowing every few seconds or something.

yeah exactly what i was thinking
get like a bunch of different recordings (maybe 20) and then put them on my ipod and shuffle them so there never the same in a row so with that many it seems like its different everytime and i cant anticipate it like if i only had one of em. I just cant find a way to get the audio onto the ipod... dont feel like spending money on a recorder for my ipod

I have a microphone, so if I can find a whistle and the time I can do it for you. I'll tell you if I do, and then you just tell me what kind of intervals you're looking for.

thanks guys for all that replied and those that are even considering taking time out to make me some audio. As for intervals i would just like them to be realistic faceoffs with down... set... (whistle) and then maybe altered a fraction of a second each time (just recording them a few times i think would work because your not gonna be able to record exactly the same over and over)
I dont know really how much help this is going to give me but i noticed a huge difference from the beginning of the year, when we didnt practice faceoffs... and the end of the year, where i did about 50-100 a practice and i became alot faster. Some people say your reactions cant be trained, i happen to think otherwise...
thanks guys

Well, I haven't made it yet. I won't tonight either. I'll do it tomorrow morning. So you just want me to do down set, whistle at different rates all in audio format?
ps. PM me with your email if you would like one.

I'd think down set whistle would be better just because its the exact thing that we use in a game.

I agree with ben. Down set whistle because it's more realistic. I'll pm you my email when you make it.

I think it should be whistle because if you practice without the set..down then you learn to react to just the whistle

I just made it. I did just the whistle as it was tied and laxmanns logic was good. I've got the audio file on my computer and already sent it to those who PM'd me. If you would like it please PM me with your email.
Also, I apologize in advance for the speedy whistle at the start. If enough people ask for it with down, set, whistle I might make one.
Also also, if you do use a mac and want to just make your own, google search for Audio Hijack. Download the free version. Then to record your own sounds download LineIn. Which you can get here:http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/
Then after that if you have a mic use that and follow the directions in help.

I don't know what that guy did on his Audio tape, but remember, there is no "set" anymore, and there is a hefty 3-4 seconds in between down and go.

theres no set anymore by the rule book? during summer league and last season it was always down set go, i think only one ref didnt do set and he told us that his cadence was down go.. so you would know about it. When did this rule come into effect?

You don't. Thats where you can Download the programs that I used to make your own recording.
To go with stinsons new post, Adobe Premire would also work very well. Didn't think of that.
Ps. Mine is just whistles.

A) I'll soon be making a .mp3 file of whistles and so forth via Adobe Premiere. Once I get it done, I'll be more than happy to share. Give me a week or so.
B) It's down, whistle in high school and college now.

It was erased from NCAA, and I was told in all High School Lacrosse [not club]
I know it was gone as of last year in Michigan.
Some refs are old fashion and still aren't putting it into affect..

If anyone can send me audio files of whistles or beeps, I can make this. I just can't seem to find any noises like that.

Beav - I PM'd you.
Alright guys, once I get the audio from Beav I'm gonna get on this. I plan on spacing out the beeps about every 20-30 seconds or so, and mix up the intervals so that you don't just figure out how often they're coming out.
Do you guys want music in between or no? I can make several different versions.

Are you still working on this, also you should make tracks with different intervals instead of one long track. This will allow people to shuffle the order of the tracks and they will never be the same.

I don't know if anyone still needed a copy of a .mp3 with just "down, *whistle*", but I couldn't find one anywhere I looked so I made two clips, one 58 seconds, the other 59 seconds. It's just a simple down and then whistle, nothing fancy. I tried to vary the time between the down and whistle but for the most part it's fairly quick after the down to simulate how it would be in most games.
Just put it on your ipod and put it on repeat and you should be good to go.
Hope this helps.
