So I'm Playing lacrosse this year and just started working out and i started out at 95 lbs and now im at 115 after about 3-4 weeks of the Westside for skinny *******s program. I wanted to know what all of you guys can bench and please be honest. BTW im a junior so i know my bench Sucks *** but please don't criticize me for it :P

Well this year i can put up a max of 165 (i weigh like 170... so trying to get it to my weight) Last year i could only do like 120 and something i did over the summer time is use dumbells. Since i had no spot, i coudln't use a barbell and i just did a bunch of upper body dumbell exercises, and i think that 45 pounds added to bench over a summer with no body weight change is really nice.
I'm a sophmore by the way
what do you weigh?

Im 155 5'11 so i guess im kinda skinny? but yeah i have no spotter so i could probably max more but yeah
I'm a sophomore, I weigh 140, and I can bench (not max out.. just rep) 115. I started out at 85 three or four weeks ago, so I'm pretty happy with that.

Healthy/strong person is suppose to bench their wieght, I am a freshman and I way about 160 5-9, I can only bench 115 reps and like 120 max. You just have to work at it and in time more weight can be added. In the beggingiun of 8th grade I was struggling with 90, it comes with time.

I'm 5 '10' 180 lbs and i max out at 245. Thats after about one year of COUNTLESS hours in the gym. I'm a junior by the way. if you find that your bench press is lacking, try doing more shoulder excercises. (upright rows, military press, front raises, etc) When i started focusing more on shoulders my bench numbers sky-rocketed.

I'm a 5 9 188 lb senior and I currently max at 225. It's a little low even though I've been hitting the weights hard for about a year and then off and on before then. If you want to add more weight to your max all you have to do is build muscle rather than tone it. Instead of doing like a weight 10-15 times do a heavier weight 4-6 times. Keep increasing the weight each set. This has really worked for my squat max. (It's what i really take pride in) My new max as of yesterday is 335 lbs.

its not what you bench (MAX) its more about reping with a good weight for you. Pushing yourself to add on five pounds everytime you can will not nearly help you as much as working out more with less weight.

im a freshman 6'0 160 lbs., i have been lifting for about a year i suppose, I bench 165 regularly and max at 180. My school does this bigger faster stronger program for football, and it is basically just 3 core lifts (bench, squat, clean/deadlift) and agilities on the latter, and it has made me bigger casue i definatly started out benching i guess 95 pounds. So its a great improvment for me. You'll get bigger just keep trying to add weight on and push yourself.

Until linear periodization becomes too taxing on your CNS, and or you just stop getting gains, which will happen...

yes you are right... more weight typically means more strength and more reps will make you more tone. i keep it to reps of 9-10 to get the 'best of both worlds' ive been lifting for about 3 years. started benching freshman year at 95 reps of 10. now i do 170 reps of 10. keep in mind i only weigh 155 and im 5'7. i guess you can say i pack a punch. also, up weight in increments of 5 lbs (upperbody) and 10 lbs for lower.

Thats completely wrong, muscle can either get bigger, smaller, or stay the same. A bunch of reps wont suddenly make you ripped.

well during my first year of lax and highschool i maxed out at 95 weighing in at 110 5'6" 5'7". and i worked out 3 months straights 3 hours a day and bumped my max to 165 without any supplements. i did wrestlign and stopped lifting, so everythings down, but before i did wrestling here were my stats: 5'7" 5'8"- 125 pounds- Max: Bench- 165 Squat- 305 Pullups- 15, and all that good stuff.

Have any of you used the machine where you lie down on your back and you put your legs on a vertical steel platform, I guess, so your legs are at right angles and then you push with your legs and try and extend them? well, for me max on that is 320

I was at my buddy's apartment the other day and this dumb ***** was a freshmen at 21, hanging out with this other freshman he was talking to. 21 and a freshman in college, ridiculous. Staying on topic, 140 and max somewhere around 180, but I can do one-handed pullups so it doesn't really matter.

When working out, always make sure you can't finish your last set without help. If you do, than start with a higher weight the next lift day. Always set yourself up for failure, and keep going once you fail.

football training has helped me a lot, but when lax season hits, because of all the workouts your arms get just from practice it drops substantially.
id say bench helps most with D and middies playing body defense and pushing down the sides, id say overall work on forearms, it can help with the most (besides legs of course)
i can try to find my football workout our coach made for us, it helped a lot during the summer. strength is nice, but ill say definitely work on agility with dot/cone drills, those make the biggest difference.
plan on getting my bench up to around 240 and my forty down a tenth for my senior year. 5'9, 180-- 240 bench and 4.55 forty doesnt sound too bad, eh?

Just to clear up some things guys, maxing on a certain weight, is to lift the maximum amount that you can 1 time.
So if you are able to rep 115 3 times, your max probably should be quite a bit higher than 125...
Also, free weights are much more difficult than universal weights, as you actually have to balance the weight as well as lift it.

im 5'7" 170 (fat i know) but i max out at 180. people have misconceptions about weight training. it depends on what you do. if you have a good trainer at your school they will tell you what ladder to do (i.e. if you want more power you get a set of 10, two sets of 6, a set of eight, and a set of ten). you can get more strength or more toned, there are different workouts, as in complete different workouts. also, squats help a lot, but if you do them wrong, you are pretty much done. we had a kid that played baseball who was getting some D1 offers which is impressive for our school because we are horrible, and he did what he read on a blog, which was bending over really low and he blew out both of his knees.

i think we should say our max bench and max squat too, because those are like to two main core excercises. i already posted my max bench, 185, but last week i maxed out and it dropped to 170. and my max squat is 305.

Than this could be it...
After the first 2-3 days of working out your adrenaline and testocaryne [I know I spelt that wrong] increases dramastically, and you get a big up in your number's...Than after a bit it goes down to normal and you really start gaining muscle that will stay..
Or it could be stress from your 319i751209870987609812768129761 clubs and community service stuff your doing man.

Hahahaha, it's a possibility. So I should be doing the same work out at least every 2-3 days? I was usually doing it like.. once a week and sometimes twice a week. I was doing upper body Wednesday, lower body Friday, and then sometimes upper body on Monday when the weight room wasn't full.

When I bench, I put my thumbs on the side where my fingers are towards my head. I don't see many people doing it this way but it was how I learned and it works for me so I'm sticking with it. Also if you use this grip it's best to keep the bar on the lower part of the bar, you don't want it coming towards you head under your knuckles.

rare, either you have a really good curl, or your bench form is horrible, generally people bench more than they curl. I can only curl 115 once, I can bench 115 consecutively over 20 times. The muscles used in a curl are much smaller then the ones used in a bench press, not to mention there are fewer muscle as well.

Honestly, eigth graders SHOULD NOT be lifting heavy weights. Nothing more than push ups or sit ups. There is no need ot start lifting before high school. I didn't start until halfway through my freshman year. Your body is still growing and starting to lift early is not worth sacrificing your height and health.

Hey...Lax n Piemonade...What pozish you play? Because that makes all the difference. Cuz if your playing attack or middie you wanna start with lower wieght(like 60% of your max) and more reps, to make your muscles used to the weight before you build the muscle, then add on wieght with less reps, and after you get to ,like 80 or 90% of your max, find a new max and start over. Otherwise you are just going to get big, but also gradually get slower.
Really it should be the same for defense, but you should push up the benchmark a little, to give yourself the extra muscle building.

Well then both of you would be wrong. Weight training when done correctly is safe and good for everyone. It is true that people who are not physically mature should not be doing high weight/low rep training, but aside from that there is plenty of evidence that youth strength training helps performance and lessens the risk of injury. If you don't have a clue maybe you should avoid giving advice.

Strength training and lifting heavy weights are two decidedly separate entities. As I said, it is important for youth athletes to do lower weight excerises that will not stunt their growth. My examples, and the two safest ones there are are pushups and situps. Pullups are also good. I would never consider letting a middle schooler lift any significant weight over an extended program. Having a better bench is not a reasonable sacrifice for proper bone structure and a few inches.
If you aren't concious of saftey when considering lifting, then maybe you should consider holding your tongue.

Which is not true, weight training using free weights and nautilus type machines is perfectly safe and beneficial to people of all ages. Certain people including people who have not reached physical maturity, pregnant women, people with previous injuries and older adults, have to be aware of their physical limitations. For people who have not yet reached physical maturity part of that is the potential to damage growth plates with heavy lifting. If they use proper weight and form, several studies including one by Wayne Wescott at the North Shore YMCA in Massachusetts have shown that weight training reduces the number of injuries in child athletes.
I have been weight training since you were in elementary school, I have worked as a personal trainer including with youth athletes, older adults and other groups with special fitness needs and I have run a gym in the past. Do you want to continue discussing who knows what about safe and proper training techniques?

These stunted growth rumors need to stop, people just don't understand HOW lifting leads to stunted growth (as said, damaged growthplates). Therefore, people are generalizing all weightlifting with stunted growth. As long as you know what you're doing and you're careful about it, you're not going to lose 3in in height.
Growth Hormone supplementation is occasionally prescribed to individuals who are predicted to be at a below average adult height. And since weight lifting stimulates release of growth hormone, I think there may actually be some sort of correlation between PROPER weight lifting and INCREASED growth.

i started this winter maxing about 175 (weighing 140)and i went every other day for about 2 months and about 2 weeks ago i did 195 (weighing 147)so i will hopefully be at 205 in another week. but one thing that helps is changing around the weight you do so one day do a pyramid and then that week do 3 sets of 5 on, the bench also make shure you are doing incline and decline bench along with flyes. i like the cable flyes they work really well on your chest. another thing you shouldnt forget is your shoulders, they play a big part in your bench too. this is my work out for a better bench
flat bench 10/8/6
incline dumbell press 10/8/6
cable flyes10/10/10
then some times decline bech 10/10
dips 2 sets till failure
pushups 2 sets till failure
i never do these back to back i usually do bench then curls then incline. so i stick another excercise inbetween them. but you have to be very consistent if you want results

I'm with ya too boys. Too much misinformation still going around.
I got my bench up to 225 for 4 reps about six months ago and then I said..."What the hell am I doing this for?". I don't play competitively anymore and I'm not bodybuilder..so a few sets of 185 keeps me where I want to be...which is sexy for the girlfriend

Im a small 13 - 4-11 85 lbs. but I can bench like 75 but I can squat a ton more, but Im not sure exactly. I prefer to do curls though with like 25-30 lbs. and a ton of reps.
Have any of you used the machine where you lie down on your back and you put your legs on a vertical steel platform, I guess, so your legs are at right angles and then you push with your legs and try and extend them? well, for me max on that is 320
that would be called a leg press little man, and i can do 535 with my knees 1/2 foot to foot away from chest. repping 7 times. but 320 for a thirteen year old is good, if your repping.
but yah im a soph. 153 lbs. 5 '10. i rep 115 7 times. 3 sets. last time i checked my max it was 165. but i need to check it again. i rep curls with a 55 pound barbell. havent maxed out on curls.

Well not to get down on you but I think it's because you're weak(as am I). The spotter is just there to make sure that you don't hurt yourself with the bar falling on you, not really to help you lift it.
Anyway Im around 5' 10. 145 pounds. I just started lifting after cross country season, for the first time since freshman year(I was so sore that week lol). Anyway yesterday I maxed out at 135. That was my goal to get before lacrosse season, so I feel I did pretty good. For now I just want to keep improving and gain a lot more weight. I play attack and only at 145 I get pushed around a lot. I wanna get up to 155-160 if possible.

A spotter doesn't make you stronger, they shouldn't be touching you or the bar unless the weight is about to kill you.

Fat is just stored energy. You use energy to make muscle...
And I think what he meant is that protein powder makes you fat unless you work out.. and if you work out it helps a bit on the muscle building process.

This is one of the most POINTLESS threads ever. Honestly, if it wasn't banned by the NCAA, I would bet that 95% of the people who posted in here have lied about what they bench. This is almost as bad as the "how fast do you shoot" threads.
It's a compilation of lies and bad information and I vote that it gets closed.
Xeclipse19, you are a genius, Id have to agree that most of those benching stats are lies. And if not, then you guys are some of the most gifted teens around because the majority of insanely strong 16-17 year olds i know cant get much over 230-250 and that is a select few who work out a lot.

No, its not retarded. Theres nothing wrong with a little working out here and there in 7th grade, I can gaurentee that the ripped people you see now, starting working out before 9th grade. I did 90 when I was in 6th grade, and I am by no means a ''beast''.

You're right, most are under 16.. Good call.
And my max is 185. We were suppouse to test yesterday, but we ended up not, and just doing stick stuff. Which I'm completely okay with.

im about 6'1'' and 185. i bench 195 max, i squat 225 reps (i dont wanna max and hurt myself), and i can lat pull 175 (rep), and i can power clean and lift above my head 155, and countless situps, and like 60 pushups max. I love lat pulls because im a wrestler and it helps for when you take shots.

my football team which consisted of 16-18 year olds had at least half of our team max over 250, except for the kickers and receivers such as myself

My bench currently is 280/5. That is only 15 pounds more than my max the summer going into my Junior year, but two shoulder injuries later I'm finally starting to make up for what i lost. And I'm about to finish up my senior year.
i am 6'3" 215. My football coach is all about the weights.
oh, and whoever said 16-17 year olds don't usually bench over 230-250 or whatever, it seriously depends on the program. My coach's workout program is hard as heck, but it really works. We have a few sophomores benching 275 at least. But yeah, it comes down to how hard you work out. Starting my freshman year i worked out more than most people on my team, with my uncle and at school. It can be done.

i max 225 bench, and I dont squat. 2 back surgeries are enough for me. go ahead say Im afraid or I was doing it wrong. but when my trainer has a masters degree in sports med, I think I can trust him haha. (before i got my 2 surgeries i was maxin 405. im just raw like that haha)

In my opinion the best way to improve your bench is by doing 5 sets of 5 normal grip, then do 5 sets of 5 close grip in that order. For the normal grip start with a weight that is somewhere inbetween that you can do 10 times and what you can only do once. For example I bench 5 sets of 5 repetitions of 170. I do this 2-3 times a week during the off season. Once I have completed a week, I either move up by 5-10 pounds. For example I do 1 set of 5 180s, then 4 more sets of 170. I slowly build up untill I can do 180 5x5 then I build up again. For the close grip, start off with a low weight untill you find the right balance otherwise you will hurt yourself. I dropped 140lbs on my chest because I got careless, and always use a spotter. I know people that work out alone and have been stuck under weights and had no way to get them off because they used clips. This set works, and was recommended to me by a weight trainer for my school.

I find that bench press does little to nothing for lacrosse, but it still helps to be a solid athlete.
I maxed at 215 on my bench, and I'm 6'3"-180 pound Junior, so I am happy with that, after working out for a solid 4 months getting ready for the season, while also working out other upper body parts.

You guys are funny...there are some good numbers but I hope you are training the lower body as well. I am the strength coach at Army and too many freshman come into your program with big benches and no lower body strength. They adventually get injuried. Keep training hard but make sure you start training the legs! I want to hear some squat numbers! Thighs parallel to the ground...what are you guys getting?
Our best freshman was 375 x 6 reps!

I can bench 100 on my Bowflex, so it doesn't really count, but yeah I might be able to go higher but I didn't wanna try.

This is a thread about bench pressing, why would there be squat numbers? Oh I see you are advertising your book.
