Take out scooter and how do you rate the other state league finals teams goal keepers. If you rate any other goal keepers as good them give them a mention.

Smackie- Eltham
Casey Hughes- Camberwell
Chris Tillotson- Surrey Park
Keegan Morse- Camberwell

I think Tillo is the 2nd best keeper in Vic, Cassey Hughes is also up there and he is only 19 but he will be going back to England next season.

Smackie is also up there and it's been a pity he hasn't been in any Vic teams in the past and had a chance to show how good he is at that level.

I think Tillo was close to being on level pegging with Scooter this year, he had a great season. Haven't seen Cannon play in a while but would assume he is still up there with Tillo.

Haven't seen Keegan play in a while but he was quality when he played in the U/17 state team. It may take him a while to get back upto scratch.

As for the Camberwell Pom goalie I only saw him a couple of times and no where near the quality of Tillo or Cannon.

Tillo is by far the future of vic goalies, should of been mentioned big time during TRADE WEEK. With Muz probably coaching MCC to go there would have moved him along heaps. Smackey seems to turn it on for ELTHAM in the G.F's, does tillo have what it takes in the big games, they lost to Camberwell remember.

I think that was more the rest of the team that sucked than Tillo. He held up well when he was in the Aussie U19 team. But I supose the true test for him will come when either he makes a senior Vic team or the Surrey S/L team some how make it to the big one.

What about Anthony Bosisto? runner up league best and fairest and stae goalie for 2006. Obviously a lot older than most of the people mentioned.

Egreed it will be interesting to see how he holds up under that type of pressure. Sure hope he does well, same with all the Vics. Very young team.

I would agree Chris would be the No.2 GK in Vic, and will soon be #1 when Scooter sails into the sunset. As for Tillo moving to MCC to follow Muzz, there would be as much chance of that happening as Team Garnworthy moving to Caulfield or Team Stiglich heading to Altona. The kids Grandfather - the late George Tillotson was one of the founding fathers of Surrey, not to mention his own father in Gary who has an impeccable history, then there's his sisters etc etc. No a snow flake in hell I wouldn't have thought.

From what I heard of the Semi final against C'well, it was more their attack simply unable to score.

Surrey are going to need more than a good goalie though to beat he likes of Eltham, Willy and C'well.

Roy.

I think it's odd the amount of quality keepers there are in Vic. Even outside of SL. There is Mark Gregson at Altona who i rate highly as a stopper, Nathan Cameron from Moreland is getting better and better Keegan was petty good a few years back, Shannon Halliwell from Eltham, Sprio, Bosi and Joffa at Malvern (though Jeff is living the sunny life in WA atm)....I rate all of these guys pretty highly on their day which I cant say about midfield lines, attack lines and d lines across the board.

This of course might because I'm a keeper and take more notice of keepers.

so its a new year, new ratings?

i reckon Tillo is the best keeper in Vic now. Scooter was awful in the final against Surrey last year, i reckon his time is coming to and end.

Tillo
Smackey
Scooter
Wombat from willi
Gregson
Forbes
Cameron

From a div1 one player the 2 goaliesI would rate are grego (altona) and Cameron (moreland) Will b interesting 2 c how they go in Feb playing against some S/L forwards I think both of them could have developed further by now if not stuck in div 1. Cannon I agree that there are alot of good goalies about at the moment do you think thats helping keep down the average score of games compared to the 90s?

The main thing thats lowered the score since the 90's is we play 20 mins less since 2005.

Also the teams play 6 zones or 5 and 1's. I'm pretty sure in saying that Willy, was the only team that never dropped into a type of zone during 6 on 6 this year against Eltham!

swankylaxer

Surrey never played any form of 6 man zone defence or 5 and 1 against Eltham last year.

Who did the other teams try to lock out of offence?

cannon

MCC used the 6 and 5-1 like nothing else...i would too if i had JT in my d line.

I'd like to se that stats between 90's and now.

I swear you guys played a 5 and 1 against us in the regular season Swanky! (not for a whole game but in pieces here and there)

Certainly not in the finals series! I don't think you guys played D at all those 2 games???

We did try to stop the ball rotating through X at times so that may have looked like it.

I think we will start to see them occurring more often though. As coaches start to watch more of the Yanks and other Aussie teams using their different defensive set ups and rotations. Which isn't a bad thing it means that our club coaches don't think they know everything and are prepared to try new things and learn from other people.

And I agree there was not much defence played in the final we realy turned to crap during that game.

MCC played a whole game of 6 zone against us, which was realy annoying.

MCC did they same thing to us but we just forced 1 on 2's in the bottom corners.

Your D in the Grandfinal was quite good in the first 2 quarters the Stiggas and myself were puffing pretty hard at the half as we were pushed further to rotate the ball. However we changed formation for the 3rd quarter and Scott Menze and Tim Fry took full advantage.

Yeh I think one of the strengths of our D is the speed and fitness of the young guys, but our Middi D with the exeption of a few is ordinary. We'll work on that, but I think Corey and Tillo will have learnt alot from playing with the guys in the Vic team and I hope we can build on that this year.

Back to the lower score lines. I think we don't get enough shooting practice particularly at a young age and the techniques of shooting are not drilled into our juniors. This causes us to be inaccurate where the Cannacks, due to the high shot percentage in Box, will usualy hit most of their shots. I think that style of game and the amount of shots on goal during training contribute to them having a better shot to goal ration than us.

Having shortened the game by 20 minutes certainly had an effect but the game deffinately sped up in the last quater in particular. The other thing I think has changed the amount of goals is the willingness of most teams to run set plays and to deliberately control the ball for longer periods to stop Eltham from scoring. ;0)

If Willy can recapture their run n gun style that might force the scores up to where they used to be! rumor is that they get heaps of players back this season
like tom garnsworthy ryan garnwsorthy and his brother matt, aaron lawman, dan jennings and marcus caville and possibly wes green. cannon i gather you are from willy, is all of this true?

Think of S/L GF scores in the last 10 seasons

2007 - 17 - 7 a total of 24

2006 - 13 - 12 a total of 25

2005 - 14 - 8 a total of 22

(25 minutes q's)
2004 - 16 - 11 a total of 27

2003 - (not sure)

2002 - 9 - 8 a total of 17

2001 - 22 - 12 a total of 34

2000 - 16 - 14 a total of 30

1999 - 22 -10 a total of 32 (Not sure)

1998 - 13 - 8 a total of 21

Unless it was the Kusel that caused high scoring????
No games over 30 goals since the shorter periods!

If all of those were true, that'd be great. If even half were true that'd be very handy. Ryan is back soon so we can lock him in. The rest i have no idea if they'll play. I'd suggest Aaron will be staying in SA though, unfortunately for us.

tillo will be the next aus keeper with ryan spark as back up

Spark is good but he had a shocker in the ALL games I saw. Swanky had the vids on youtube, spark is just guessing at the ball.

I reckon in the mix for 2010 are: scooter (maybe too old), spark, tillo, machner and cannon. although going on 2007 cannon is going to have to double as a longpole!

That WA kid was rubbish against the Vics two games in a row. Not saying that is always the case, however if you can't produce in the big ones......

Tillo is clearly the best keeper in the country.

Has he even played since he left Adelphi? Don't get me wrong, he is the best goalie I've played in front of, but that was quite a while ago.

Or are you talking of his older brother, Aaron, who is currently the Sturt League goalie.

I would still have scooter over cannon on what Ive seen this year in th VLL state and div 1 that season with the long pole has set cannon back a fair bit. only my opinion... if grego was playing S/L I would have him in the top 4 in the state along side scoot smac and tillo

Tom Vickory from ETP in SA would have to be up there for the next aussie keeper. Very consistent.
