I have been a drummer as well as a lacrosse player for over 8 years. I am a faceoff guy on my team and won 70% this year! everyone asked my tactics, but i really didnt have any, 80% of the time i just use the clamp and roll.

my dad mentioned to me if it was my drumming...i thought about this and put it to a test. I took another one of my team mates and taught him a double stroke roll on a practice pad (this is basically hitting the bad two times while pushing down once, bouncing it off) He did this for about two weeks while starting and stopping to a metrinome.

instead being a horrible faceoff guy he was before, he was one of the best on the team and drasically improoved.

my reasoning for drumming to help faceoffs is because its the same motions with the wrists strenthening them and also drumming is based on playing on a sound, and lets face it clamping the ball the nano-second after the whistle blows is key.

my belief is drumming works.

what do you all think of this?

its sounds like it would work but you would have to go out and buy a practice pad and drumsticks which most kids might not want to do.

you could just to wrist curls to strenghten wrist muscles

yes, but the strength training is completely different from the speed training theat percussive rythms teach. drumming causes you to speed up your wrist and arm movements, it also helps your timing on the face because of the rythm and timing it takes.

I too drum, but I never noticed an increase in f/o speed.
But...then again, I've been drumming as long as i've been facign off. (Which I dont do too often)

its basically the whistle idea and strengthening you wrist into a drill. Pretty SWEET

I also happen to be a drummer, and an attackman. But, the few times that I have faced off, I've won. So far I'm 100% on face offs.

Nice...i used to drum in like 6th grade and i still have a practice pad, which i think i can find in my room, but i think i only have one stick...What would be a good enough replacement for a drumstick?

Also, is the double stroke roll like a regular drum roll? Thanks.

a double stroke roll is when u play RRLLRRLLRRLLRRLLRRLLRRLL as 32nd notes. So yes, this is your normal drum roll

Band helps too, While I'm not in band, we did a reaction speed thing in physical science and the only two people to beat me were those that were in band, that was in every class, all those who band, continously won.
It's because they are trained to react to sound faster than normal people.
Their sound to finger reaction is intense.

It's a good test, but you need more subjects and some controls before coming to that conclusion. For example, as a positive control, you should get a guy on your team who has been drumming for years, but hasn't taken a faceoff. for a negative control, you get a guy who doesn't drum or take faceoffs and for your test, first get a guy who doesn't drum or take faceoofs, teach him some rhythms, then compare it again after.

Before you ask, yes, i'm a science major and yes, I was in the band.
