Well, today i played goalie for the first time ever. Im hurt so its the only position i could play. We lost, unfortunitly. The score was around 5-4 i think. Anyway, i noticed all the shots i let in were the 5 hole and stick side bottom. Any suggestions for me? Also, i tried to run up for a shot which failed horribly haha. Any tips on running up? Thanks guys.

for 5 hole and stick side bottom, u just gotta step into the shot and get your stick down on the ground. as for the shot, i find that shooting a little under hand or regular sidearm flick works better than going overhand. most of my sticks are string to throw good clears and shoot well sidearm. and as for the run, did you get a shot off, or get the crap knocked out of you?

If you're hurt, why'd you run up for a shot?

If your hurt, why play at all? Especially goalie? The position when your most likely to get hurt?

that is a good question. as for running, one thing i picked up a few years ago when i just started goalie and stopped attack is that it can be easier to sometimes have your hands higher on the shaft when you cradle, it makes it easier to control and to dodge. when i run i have good control of my stick so i can get far enough to cross up a middie or dpole and dish the ball off.

Lower your ready stance - i.e. get your butt down while waiting for the shot. It makes it easier to get down to low shots. You can always spring upward for high shots, but there are no muscles to spring you down to the ball.

Why play and why go for the run even though my ankles are messed up? idk, i hate sitting out.
Thanks guys im gettin some good stuff here. So, for the next game, ill keep a lower stance, step into those bounce shots, and choke up on my stick when im running up (even though after my experience iw ont do it till my ankles are better :p)

Bill in a real game you shouldn't run at all. It was a 7vs7 mini field -_-. The line extended is around half of the fall league field. If you are going to run in a real game, you should run up the sides and not the middle because if you lose the ball , they will get a easy goal. Wait till the tourny on sat.
Bounce balls. Try to ge one kneee down and have the head blocking the area between your legs.

i scored once in summer and almost again this fall (wound up too far...meh i dont shoot often)
i just run up as fast as i can and use the whole shaft. i dont know what to say for you though until your ankles get better.

i used to have the same problem that you had with going 5 hole, and for those ankle shots. and every camp i went to they always teached the same thing. untill i was coach by the Manhatten Goalie, Joey Keegan at a clinic. He told me to forget about stepping to the ball completly. because why try and step to the ball when you're not fast enough to get there in the first place. so for all low/bounce shots i would just take very very small "pitter patter"steps. kinda of like inching in a way. untill i was faster. thats the best advice i can give you man. don't start off with taking big steps out like kip turner. just work your way though it untill you're fast enough.
as for leaving the cage. i've only scored once. and that was during fall ball 7v7. i've only tried to run up the field twice during regular season. and i was layed out. around around the mid field line. not the best decision. stick to staing behind the re-stringing line, and make the attackman play you. as opossed to you playing them.

maybe you should use an attack length shaft if you want to take the ball up the field. As for the five hole, i had that problem early too. Just make sure you get low, and if your stick misses the ball, the ball hits your chest pad.
