View Full Version : Posty Awards 2006!

Hey everyone,
Its that time of the year again, time to recognize the excellent members of the TLF community. For those of you who don't know what the Postys are, here is a short explaination:
The TLF Posty Awards are an award given by the moderation crew, to reward the best members on TLF. Last year, the winners were awarded with a customized user title (to appear under their avatar), a 2006 Inside Lacrosse calendar, and a free year's subscription to Inside Lacrosse magazine. This year, the prizes have yet to be determined, but Inside Lacrosse has always stepped up with great prizes and ideas to help promote the TLF message boards, and this community, and that tradition will continue this year.
The 2006 version of the Postys will feature 8 categories:
1. TLF's Most Valuable Poster
2. Most Informational
3. Rookie of the Year
4. Training Guru
5. Equipment/Stringing Guru
6. Playing Position Guru
7. Most Talkative Member
8. Most Improved Member
Here are explainations for each category:
1. TLF's MVP: The most valuable overall member of the forum for 2006 will win this award. This member is the whole package, nice, kind, informative, helpful, knowledgible, and is the example of what a TLF member should be. This is the one member that produces mature and informative posts, that make TLF worth visiting.
2. Most Informational: This member is the person who always has the answers. They know a ton about lacrosse, and share their knowledge regularly, and appropriately. They're always there with the answer, and are helpful with everything lacrosse.
3. Rookie of the Year: The best rookie member who's joined in 2006. Simple as that, the winner of this category is the best member with less than 1 year of experience on TLF.
4. Training Guru: The person on this board who has all the best training tactics, health suggestions, and endurance ideas. This is TLF's personal trainer.
5. Equipment/Stringing Guru: This is the person who not only has the best stringing, dying and pinch work on the forums, but also knows a ton about equipment and what to buy, comparisons of equipment, and has great suggestions of what works best for different players.
6. Playing Position Guru: This award is for an attack, middie, defense, or goalie in women's or men's field, or Canadian box, who is knowledgible of all things about their position, and is the greatest resource of information for their particular position on this forum.
7. Most Talkative Member: This is the member who always contributes to the forum, with well thought out, informational posts. This is a true TLF addict, but always posts appropriately, and shows their true personality well. This member will most likely have a ton of posts, but the vast majority of them are GOOD posts, and not just bunk or filler.
8. Most Improved Member: This is a member who has been on TLF longer than 1 year, and has vastly improved their performance on the board. This is a member who before this year, wasn't someone who displayed responsible posting practices, but in 2006, made the effort to improve their behavior, and has become a respectible and honorable member of TLF. This award, in my opinion, is the most valuable one of them all.
NOTE: Only members can win Posty Awards. Assistant Moderators, Full Moderators, Super Moderators, and Administrators are exempt from any and all categories of the TLF Posty Awards, since that is the group that will be doing the voting. Retired Moderators are elligible for the 2006 Postys, since they have no powers, and cannot contribute in voting. They are regular members, with orange user names.
Now, please feel free to discuss the Postys in this thread.
DO NOT NOMINATE ANY MEMBERS IN THIS THREAD!
Nomination posts will be deleted, and could cause you to receive warnings, as you have been warned with this post here. The Moderators have worked hard to compile lists throughout the year of members who are deserving of this honor. Those lists will be used to determine the final nominees of each category, and they will be posted for you to review in a couple weeks. With just 2 months left in the year, the Postys are one of those things that makes being a respected member of TLF all worth while.
Just know this, Posty award winners and nominees have gone on to be promoted in rank on this board. I won't lie to you, the Posty nomination lists are good resources for us to decide who would be good candidates for moderators.
So, lets get excited...Postys 2006 Version 2.0 are here!
NOTE: Please be smart and express yourself in a way fitting of our TLF rules, or your posts will be deleted, and you could be subject to warnings, without alerts. We're attempting to award those who are the best of the best, and I'd like to believe you all wish to achieve one of these awards. A good way to change a Mod's mind, is with a horrible, rule breaking, and otherwise useless post in this thread, is the best way of getting yourself off that nomination list.

I have all my people in my head for each of those awards picked.
I like the variety of awards, this year.
I don't know if it was like this last year, but this ones good.
But as for prizes for this year, I think the name under the avatar should deffintily be one of them..

LM32, as a former winner of a Posty Award you know how this works. You're fine, and are elligible for the contest. Your status as an assistant mod earlier this year will not affect you in any way.
I'll even go so far as to say, "cross my heart, and hope to die", and I'll even throw in the, "stick a needle in my eye" fine print.

So sit tight, you'll get to see the nominees before the finalists are chosen.

That funny award is a horrible Idea.

But then there would be people being overly sarcastic, which might not be good.

Guys, this is not a thread to post random comments. Take your conversation to either AIM or PM. Don't do it here.
It says in the first post that making posts in here that are utterly useless could get you a spam warning. Don't come crying to me when it happens to you, if you can't follow this simple rule.

Maybe me for player position just a thought, I mean I do know everything about face offs... but I'm just thinking out loud here. But this year should be interesting to see who wins what.
MaKiMaKi13

for the Equipment/Stringing Guru perhaps you should give seperate awards to people who can string godlike customs and then people who can string sweet mesh pockets, just a suggestion

I got a question about the catagories, does the position guru only go to one person, or is there seperate ones for attack, middie, goalie, etc...
The "Position Guru" goes to one person. Its the person who knows the most about their particular position on the floor/field. It can be a goalie, middie, defenseman, attack, or could be a girl's lax player, or even (God forbid) a box player!!!! (whew...I know that was a tough one to swallow there field laxers)
So are we waiting another two months for this? For the technical end of 2006? Or is this a more soonish thing? Because otherwise we'll get all worked up for nothing, and a certain someone might have to start a vigilante posse to take out another certain someone.
I'm hoping that as the process continues, it won't seem so long, but last year the Awards were announced in November, so I'm holding to tradition. We will compile the nomination lists over the next couple weeks (make sure to stay on your best behavior everyone). We should have them available for you all to view by middle of November. Then the voting will take place and finalize by the end of November. We'll release the lists to Inside Lacrosse, so they can publish the names of the winners in the January issue, so they can have them ready for beginning of 2007.
So in breif:
Nominees: Mid November
Winners announced: End of Nov / Start of Dec
Winners published: January edition of IL

Woohoo I can't wait. I read up a bit on the Posty's last year, and it seems like a fun little addition to TLF. Nice choice on the catagories too, I think it will make the best of the best posters stand out.
Maybe I'll win Rookie of the Year, even though I joined in like July. Maybe add a "Most Sarcastic Poster" award. I know who would win that :agree: .
EDIT: Hooligan, can members with a warning still win? Or do you have to have a completely clean record?
faceofflax15
11-01-2006, 07:18 PM
Also, For rookie of the year, would you be eligable for that if say you signed up in july of 2005 but maybe posted once...Untill around april 2006...? I mean that user was basically just dead weight untill when they started posting..

EDIT: Hooligan, can members with a warning still win? Or do you have to have a completely clean record?
Good question. Members will be observed on a full year of performance. If you've been banned, or have received enough warning/alert points to choke a horse, yeah, you're pretty much outta luck. But we're going to be looking at overall performance, and its very likely that someone who is a great poster the majority of the time, can sometimes get a warning or two, and can acquire alerts as well. Some members don't have warnings/alerts at all, and they won't be considered either, for other reasons.
Last year's winners weren't perfect either. Its impossible to be perfect 100% of the time...unless your name is Hooligan.

As I said before, ROTY Candidates are going to be based upon members who registered during 2006. That ranges from January 1st, 2006, until November 15th (when the nomination list deadline will be implemented...I hope). Now, I doubt that we'll have a member win the ROTY in less than 2 weeks, so realistically we're looking at someone who has been a member of the board for a while.

11-02-2006, 02:39 PM
Shouldn't that rookie of the year start from when the last Posty's were announced. If you joined between November or December 2005, your out of luck. Just an observation.
Hooligan
11-02-2006, 03:52 PM
The Posty Awards were handed out in December. So, that whole month is off limits. Its a shame, but it works the exact same way as does the professional sports. If you played 10 seconds over the limit the previous season for being considered a rookie the following year, then you're pretty much >poop< out of luck.

Idk if you guys think this is a good Idea, but maybe we should ahve a 'Most Underrated Poster' as a category? Alot of good posters go unnoticed during these awards...
laxman37
11-02-2006, 07:19 PM
That actually sounds like a good idea. We need to look for the more lesser-known people who post well, and contribute, but never really get credited for it.
An overall 'Honerable Mention' are might be good as well.

That's one of the qualities we look for in some nominees. It's more than a glorified populairty contest. There are many quality over quantity posters who make an impression on us.
An overall 'Honerable Mention' are might be good as well.
That pretty much covers those nominated in general who aren't the winners. It's just as big an honor to be nominated (and yes there are some who get cut as the lists are narrowed that go unsung) so in a way there is an honorable mention.

Just a suggestion, but why not seperate the Equipment Guru and the Stringing Guru? I know Ekeown was certainly deserving of the Equipment Guru, but if both stringing and equipment are combined, he probably wouldn't have been as strong a candidate. Obviously no offense meant to Ekeown, I was just pointing out that he doesn't really post about stringing.
They seem to be two different catagories to me.

REMEMBER, there is no whining or complaining if your name doesn't appear anywhere. There are only 8 categories, and 5 nominees per category. So, there's a maximum chance of 40 different members getting nominated, out of the present 18,371 members we have on this forum. There's a really good chance you won't be up there. And I can guarentee you that some members were nominated twice, which takes the possible 40 slots, and decreases them down.
Please understand that the poeple who get nominated should feel as proud as the ones that win. You are the cream of the crop, the ones that the mods feel best exemplify what TLF is all about. Hope you're excited, as I see some of you are, and stay tuned here to see if you're nominated!
Good luck!

There should be a Seller/Buyer Award, for the person who has:
a) A large amount of points, and
b) A reputation of someone who gives great deals and is a pleasure to do buisness with.
Just an idea for next year.
