I just started playing on the field after being goalie for a season. I was wondering if there was any lacrosse tips anyone would like to share. I would like to play somewhere midfield, like D-wing, but am just experimenting right now with all the positions. Any tips or skills you can share would be awesome and helpful!

on the field, dont' be afraid to actaully push your girl. when you're marking her along the sideline, keep forcing her outside, and becarefule of when she tries to pull that roll dodge, so stay on your toes. when she gets on the 8, put your stick in one hand, and extend your arm with the stick out towards the girl with the ball, and then have your other arm extended towards the girl that you're marking. remember to have your body between your girl and the goal. when she tries cutting, put your bottom hand against her hip, and let her run..but guide her outside of the 8. you don't want her even entering the 8 basically. pretend like you're hugging a tree, and don't let her push your arms in, because once you extend out, its a foul on you. you gotta make your arms stay bent when you're pushing her out.. like hugging a tree. talk ALOT on defense. your team should always be screaming "got ball, ball up top, got your help behind, ball left, ball behind, ball down" on picks don't switch girls when its at top of the 8, only switch your girl when your girls rolling. umm work on the running, and when you're playing midfield, don't stay so close to your girl. it'll wear you down, and also there's really no point. work on catching on the run, like behind the back passes and catches, and also remember to run towards the ball to make the catch during a transition. work on cuts, make them sharp and fast... umm if you need more stuff on a diff position, just ask for it i guess?!good luck playing on the field!

Thanks a lot Laxbabe2121! I tried a lot of the things that you suggested, like pretend I'm hugging a tree, and actually pushing my girl. Thanks for all your advice =)

My coach came back from the coach's convention in January. She told us that now they're teaching players to do that half cradle instead of the full cradle when they're starting out, and something like cradling parallel to the ground when you're in the scoring area......Basically I totally feel sooooo behind.
Since everyone else probably knows more about lacrosse than I do right now, can you please tell me what I'm missing?
So far, I just know like basic defense skills, catching, throwing, scooping....lol.....the list is short.
Yeah, so if you have anything to share that you're doing as a defender/offender, can you please let me know?
It's hard here in Washington since it's not that popular of a sport (but we're growing though!), to be updated on knew skills and stuff.
Thanks a lot! Anything will help!

I used to play boy lax until last year when i joined HS, basically b/c there are VERY few girl teams here in texas. When i first started lax about 5 years ago, i learned by watching... slow process... then last year I watched the movie "Offensive Wizardry" and it helped more than i could evr imagine...
Since i used to play boys lax, i am generally more..."forceful" with the other players ive encountered but no matter. just keep that in mind when you watch the video. The WHOLE video helps except for two parts... 1) Body checking (we girls arent allowed) 2) Taking care of a pocket (we dont use pockets)
Overall a GREAT watch!
