no its not illegal, but you cant be lumberjacking at the goalies arms...its the goalies decision not to wear arm pads.
it happened to me too, just make it worth the pain when you leave the crease.
usually the ref will call the slash if its too over the top

It is illegal to slash..period. An attempt to hit the stick resulting in a whack of the arm is legal. If you don't want it to happen wear arm pads.

well, not entirely true. if i goalie was running out and he got hit like that, its not a slash call. if its an attempt at the stick and misses, and its pretty hard, then theyll call it. like lax21goalie said, they will call it when they feel its too over the top. ive run out and got slashed many a time, i had bruises and marks like you wouldnt imagine.

if you're not the best at your left.
get out on the wall and work on it.
i can throw just as good left as i can right.
you'd be surprised how much you'll use it once you're able to do it.
it makes leaving the cage, easier since you can switch hands if you have to.

which would also help you in your slahing problem by not being slashed.

well technically its illegal to slash period , but like lilaxgurl said once you leave the crease your pretty much fair game to anyone and its a pretty hard call for most refs to make you could always just circle around the crease and then find the open man but depends on the situation

you can get hit in the arm as long as the defender makes it look like he's goin for the stick

i know a goalie that wears aps. its not really wrong to wear them, its just that they can constrict your movements, which i think is why we dont wear them. that and the fact we dont need them in goal.

i dunno what all this argument is. goalies dont wear armpads and they shouldnt. if you wanna go out of the goal then you better be prepared to take a hit/slash. Theres not reason to wear aps there usless for a goalie. I mean we stand in the goal getting pegged by balls and your complaining about a slash. common now i can hope that everygoalie out there can take a slash if they can get hit with shots in the upper 80's

EHSLAX12 is right, again. They aren't necessary, and I definentely would NOT recommend a goalie wear them, but if you raelly need them because you run out of net a lot and get slashed like crazy, then by all means wear them. TO stay on subject, yes, slashing is illegal in most cases.

Hey you did it!
BTW to answer your question- It's legal to smack the goalies unpadded arms as hard as you want if your trying to get the ball from him and he is not in the goal. The only way your safe in the crease is if you have possession.

......It's legal to smack the goalies unpadded arms as hard as you want if your trying to get the ball from him ........

Careful with this.

A field ref will have to help me out to be sure, but ball or no ball, crease or no crease, I'm pretty damned sure you can't intentionally bring the axe down on an opponent's arms.

That said, you won't often be called for slashing if you happen to hit an opposing ball carrier in the forearms with a more or less controlled check......anyone that wants to play outside their crease without proper arm guards has to recognize this reality and suck it up if they get chopped a couple times while carrying the ball.

Yeah I know I'm not saying you can hit the goalies arms just to do it. You have to be or look like your going after the ball. I'm just saying you can do some pretty hard illegal hits to a goalie and the ref might not even see.
