Bill Pilat's Goalie Camp in Cocoa, Florida: December 16th-December 19th 2006
-It was really fun I got alot out of it. Really good for new goalies
-Everything was awsome except for me and my roommates getting money stolen because the guys in the next room forgot to lock their door.
-Food was good
-My 10 on 10 team went undefeated - Go Meats!
-4 on 4 we only lost like 2-3 times out of the whole thing
-Room mates were awsome..
I got Anthony (Purple Head, Pink Mesh)-Mountain Lakes
Daniel K (from OR, Black old school helm)
Nick (The big guy with ADK on his helmet)
Sean (I think #57 played attack on 10 vs 10 games- I could tell he was one of the best goalies at the camp)
We had 5 in our room because we are so cool everyone wants to room with us.

I went in the summer, and I know there will be less people there in the winter than the summer, so you will get more reps which is good. It's pretty fun just being around only goalies, and you should learn a lot of new techniques especially since you've only been playing for a few monthes. I wish i could have faced the pitching machine, but thats only at the Florida site

December 16th (Check in 3-5pm) - December 19th (Check out 12p.m.) I guess it's 4 days if you count the check in days.. Will we be doing stuff on those days?

I went there a few years ago. You get a lot of quality work-outs with a low coach/goalie ratio. When I was down there, it got to the mid-50's one night. I'd suggest bringing some cold gear UA or a couple long sleeves.
Have fun with the pitching machine.
EDIT* You basically spend your days rotating through different drills and chasing balls. The practice facility is pretty sweet, the dorms are nice and the food is pretty good.

O not last year, food was subpar and the dorms were ok. Facility is great though. This is a great camp to the guys that are going, it's a blast if you get cool roommates.

you should just bag your stick and check it on board the plane, so it sits with the luggage. i know thats a stretch since our sticks are "fragile" but youd pribably be better off doing that...or, ship your sticks there overnight or somethin in the mail...youd probably have to send tomorrow morning and pray they are there before you start.

OK, for you guys who attended, three questions:
What was the best thing that you learned?
Who was the best goalie there, and I mean among the campers?
Who was the best goalie that you saw from Florida?
hcDevils391
12-19-2006, 10:01 PM
it is hard to say who the best goalie was cause you never really saw every goalie play, and for learning it depends if you were weak in one area, but they covered almost everything pretty in dep except i cant remember any talk about clearing

Yeah they did, they made us do those line drills for clearing and the goalie games were supposed to be for stick skills and throwing skills, and i heard them talk about to be a strong goalie you need to clear and stuff.

the line drills didnt really help with clearing, heck half the kids there could even put a pass right on the money. Plus, in the goalie games, I just played A/M, so no real clearing oppourtunities there

It doent matter what position you played, you kept the ball passing around on a/m that got your throwing skills up. You dont need to be in the net to work on clearing, you need your throwing skills down is what he tried to show us.
EHSLAX12
12-20-2006, 12:11 AM
its jus that being in the net while clearing and practicing that with a defense and offense, it helps with your awareness. you have to concentrate on the 4 second count, the options you have, the guy coming behind you, where the defense is setting up, where/who their players are marking, etc. wen you practice it in a more game like situation, it is a lot better practice.

-If you go to the far right Poweraid machine by the pool and insert $1 and press the orange flavor like 10 times it will give you 2-3 poweraids
-If you play 4 on 4's make sure not to tire yourself out running to a ball thats going 100 feet out into the forest unless you are loosing.

We learned everyt thing from "The Ball Stops Here" DVD pretty much, and got to see live college players rip it up on the college goalies. Idk who's going to get the top goalie spot at Roanoke College this year they were all really good.
