Practice...Practice...practice. Thats one of the best ways to improve. (Well, its THE best way to improve) Also, learn about the position...the movements, the angles, the motions (Basically same as movements...but a different word.)....
Learn to step to the ball. Sure...It does hurt, and you will probably get a few good injuries. (I'm not trying to scare you out of goal) But, step to the ball. It will help to cut down the angles, and if you move to it. The ball doesn't have the time to take a wild bounce, or move up/down/left/right.

heres the 6 most important things for a keeper to know
1: hold the stick correctly, 1 hand on the throat, the second hand 12 to 14" below. keep the stick up high and away from your body - use your thumb as a sight,, its eye - thumb - ball
2: learn how to move on the arc (from post to post) smoothly and methodically. the feet should never cross and depending how tall your are,, the movement should be 4 to 5 side to side steps as the ball carrier sweeps across upfield
3: ALWAYS STEP UP FIELD on all shots. when practicing stand behind any line on the field and step over it when playing catch or warming up. do a million reps stepping to the ball when ever any throws one to you. it has to become automatic
4. get a proper warm up before every game,, the warm is not someone just ripping shots. its 10 shots to each of these areas - stick side high, off stick high, stick side hip, off stick hip, stick side low, off stick low and five hole.
10 shots ( 65% to 75% heat) to each area - then switch to the next. only have a shooter mix it up after the warm up. a good warm will make you way more saves.
5 SEE THE BALL. forget whos shooting, stick fakes, shoulder fakes, head fakes, JUST FOCUS ON THE BALL. if you are concentrating only on the ball you will make more saves.
6 if someone scores FORGET IT, get the next one, they are supposed to get 10 on you a game. it a 6 x 6 foot target it not hockey 10 or 12 goals is no big deal.
hang in there its the best position in ALL OF SPORTS. i coach it, play it and love it.
