My team just lost both of our 2 goalies and I have been thinking about playing goalie. I am big, but quick. I play longstick d right now, but I think goalie would be fun. Oh yea, and this is my first year of lax.

I say go for it. I got my goalie start through a chance like yours. It sounds like you'd get playing time right away too.

Me.
But that's besides the point. Go for it...being a goalie is the most glorifying positions on the team.

just remember not to get down if you lose because if you lose you WILL get blamed by the kids who didnt play good but when you win it is alot of fun

Right up until you lose, and EVERYONE says its your fault. (But, usually its not) Then, you start fighting with your D-man about how if they would actually defend the guy, then they wouldn't have scored.
But...Go for it.

when people try to blame me for a lose, which doesn't happen a lot(losing i mean :naughty: ) I hand them my stick and tell them to try it. fighting with your D-men only works when most of they dont have 6 inches and 80 lbs on you. but yeah, go for goalie, only the cool people play goalie, ask marf he knows

Should you play goalie? OF COURSE YOU SHOULD!!!!!!! Goalie will defineltly be one of the most fun and most exciting experiences you will ever have in your lax career. And if you ever have any Q's about the position, you can PM me, or any one of our fabulous goalies. I'm always happy to help.

go for it...it was the best lax decision i made switching from atk to goalie. its fun, being able to be the unsung hero by the crowd but be the team hero...having the courage to stop that really hard shot and raise your condifence level...knowing you have bigger balls than the rest of your non-goalie teammates, thats what you want to feel. you gain a sense of pride knowing you are the deciding factor on your team.

Think about it long and hard.It may seem fun at first but then people will rocket 60mph shots right by your face. Goalies are a whole different breed

More like 80mph-100mph.
It is fun, then...you get hurt pretty bad.
But,You keep playing, make that one save, although It kills...You feel so good about it, you pick it up,then then toss it off to a mid who then scores and you win state, then........Then, its awesome.

i take the 70 - 90 range on varsity...itll be fun this year because there is a team that is like 50% seniors and 30% juniors...fun, fun, fun, pain, fun...well no pain.
you have to have a passion for the position, and have to want to play it...and have the ability to allow yourself to get hit with a ball that hard.

Goalie is a great position, but like with most things not everyone is great at it. It takes a special kind of person to be good at goalie. I have seen kids pick it up and become great in a matter of week, but the opposite is true too. Since its offseason i would ask a coach and see what he says, borrow some stuff (or buy it your choice) and have someone shoot on you. That's where it starts, if the coach knows your intrested and has worked with you it will probably end up good. Just make sure you practice a whole lot and work hard.

While you do have a good point, it's not necessarily true. when I started playing keep, I absolutely sucked! But after a while, I got better and started playing well. Now, I am one of two goalies on the varsity team. I'm not trying to brag, I'm just giving an example. He's right though, it does require a lot of hard work. So if you decide to play keep, which you should, get ready for some serious practicing.

I was in the EXACT same situation as you my first year. I was a longpole D, and our team didn't have a goalie. I volunteered to try with the team equipment (not very nice). I played for 2 games and I absolutely LOVED it. I would reccomend at least trying it, but you have to have guts and you have to get over the fact that the ball hurts.

and if i didnt state this earlier...and im sure most people have said it already...balls of steel are required. you have to play thrugh pain. i took a nice crank straight into my bad knee and it was excrutiating pain, but i had to go through it. i did, and im better for it. like i said, you need passion, and passion also means a drive to want to play..to never come out.
