Will you get yourself a penalty if you helmet check yourself? Like, if your running from a defenseman, and you accidently conk yourself in the noggin, will the ref hear the noise and call a penalty on you?

If so... thats kind of stupid.

I dont think so.Slashes to the head are usually pretty obvious. The stupidest call ive had called on me was i was playin D on this guy and running along he tripped on his own feet and they called it a push from behind.:bs

The ref is going to go by visual, he shouldn't call it unless he sees your oponent hit you in the head, or swing at your head and hear the noise.

A good referee should make this call correctly almost everytime, but occasionally the ref can't see the stick and hears the noise and sees that the stick was swung so he calls it.

That's from my experience and thats how I would handle it during a game. If I don't see the contact then I won't make the call.

That happens, if it looks like you tripped him then the ref is going to throw the flag, but it also works the other way to. You get tripped by someone and the ref doesn't call it because it looked like you fell over yourself.

Sometimes that stuff happens, you just have to get over and never argue with the ref as that just digs you in deeper.

thats something you learn quick. the ref calls stands no matter what and dont argue cause that makes things worse. not from experience or anything *cough cough*

I don't know i'm pure attackman but in ice hockey i'm a goalie so i hate all kinds of refs. plus i'm one known for taunting, like in one game i had gotten my fourth goal in the game, and every goal i scored i also drew a penalty. so i started taunting the d and they got p.o. and swung a punch i just laghed in their face so they got two penalties on the goal, but the ref warned me for taunting saying if it happened again he would give me a foul

That's because a basic rule of thumb by referees, if the player wasn't wearing protection, would it have hurt. If so flag it, otherwise let it go. But remeber a player doesn't have to make contact for it to be a slash either.

I would say it depends on the ref. They usually won't call it but some will. I watched a guy get called just because he was on the floor and the ref didn't like him.

Two things:

First of all, if the official thinks you're trying to draw a foul by taking a dive or pretending you got slashed, he can give *you* a penalty. However, this is a pretty hard call to sell, so you'd better be sure.

Secondly, I've seen a lot of guys this year getting the crap beaten out of them (slash, illegal body check), but I didn't make any call. Why? Because their own teammates were doing it to them (inadvertantly, of course). I try to tell them "I saw the slash, but that was your own man" so they don't think I'm just missing the call. It helps your credibility a bit :-)

refs can be stupid. next time the play is near you (you're team has it, but you don't), wack your helmet really hard, see if the ref calls it. It could work, or he'll think your a crazy spaz.
