i am a 49 year old keeper who may be getting amoungst the dinosaurs still between the pipes. i coach goalie in spring and step in occasionally when coaching.
i play summer, fall, winter 1 and in 2 winter 2 leagues. i also play for 2 masters travel teams.
last summer i saw John Marr, age 67 playing goal for team Scotland at the world games. that is the oldest dude ive ever seen playing, let alone in goal.
i was wondering what is the oldest guy any ones ever seen play goalie?

you guys don't know who I'm talking about... but a coach at a nearby school of mine is at least 70 years old, and he still plays. I look at that and think, ddang! i hope that I will end up like that when I'm 70... assuming I live that long :()

Marr's the oldest I've seen, without a doubt. But there's a goalie in our division of the ALL who's 45, I believe, making me feel fairly young at 35.
coach b, I guess now that you're here, I should probably change my handle :chuckle: maybe "NotSoOldGoalie"

My great grandfather will get between the pipes during our Family Reunions - He is 87. The thing is he doesn't realize he is the goalie and one hour later he is asking "How in the world did I get all these bruises? Did my wheelchair tip over again?"

If I knew then, what I know now...
I played midfield until I was 54. I quit because I was permanently stuck in "3rd gear," I could run all day but had no more speed. I know I am an exception, but I feel goalies are the longevity position of lacrosse. As they gain experience, they play their angles better and are more mature about the highs and lows of the game. If I could go back to being fifteen again, I would be a goalie and play until I was incontinent, drooling and couldn't remember my way home (sorta like an after game party, but sober).

My brother, he's almost 30 years old.
He still plays great in my opinion.

He's not old, the topic states: Who's the oldest goalie you've seen play.
All of the dutch goalies are under his age and all i see is the dutch lacrosse scene at the moment.
we had this guy play for us once and he was like....65....i hope

I was referring to the "he still plays great" comment...as if you couldn't play well at 30.
