well a lot of people have been wondering about the new hard mesh like what's so bad about it compared to the old mesh
this is what alicia told me when i inquired about the new mesh
"The mesh isn't meant to get soaked, because it will soften. Our dyes are the same, so it can depend on how much the mesh absorbs in the dyeing process (not an exact science)." so for those of you that like to use shampoo and conditioner or any other product on your mesh that's a no no
in color and appearance its just very very white, and has sort of a bluish sort of tinge and stretching it with your hands is quite hard in my opinion, it's kind of like that bad batch from jima a long time about that was impossible to break in "the brick batch" if you will
now the old mesh on the other hand could get wet, and it would harden to the same consistance definitely not true with the new stuff which i found out because i had to string it up a few weeks ago when it was pouring rain as soon as this mesh get's wet it will bag out like softmesh
the overall feel of the new stuff is a lot different then the older batch also, it really does feel like fresh mesh/plasticy in my opinion maybe that's because i haven't found a great way to string it right or it could just be me im not to fond of the new stuff
well that was my 2 cents, and im not hating on jimalax or anything ill still definitely buy from you guys in the future just thought i'd give the forum some feedback
also feel free to comment/add anything i missed out on
left one is the old mesh right side is the new stuff

Well, the stuff hasnt changed too much for me, it feels almost the same to me but it does bag out to easily. How can the Jimalax people say the mesh isnt supposed to get wet or soaked though if on the webpage it says "Traditional Hard Mesh is fairly easy to break yet will hold its pocket in poor weather"? That makes no sense to me...

Alright, I agree with hot water, but i just use some cold water and dip it in real fast, then stretch and it works fien then hardens back up somewhat. My cata on the other hand is amazing, i soaked it in hot, used conditioner then soaked it again and its still stiff.

The new stuff is horrible, I am switching back to trads/customs until the mesh is better.

the old jimalax hard mesh looks like the kind of mesh warrior has right now. if you dont like jimas new stuff look into warrior hard mesh i like that stuff

the new mesh has less coating on which makes this mesh like a less hardcore softmesh and so instead of hard mesh it should be called harderthansoftmeshbutsofterthanhardmesh mesh

Is the E-Lacrosse mesh good? Also, how is the Lax.com mesh?

yea i know what you mean i LOVED the old mesh by jima it just seems to work so well and i recently bought new mesh (2 10D and a neon 7D) and they all seemed very stiff and hard to break in. I made this purchase about 2 months ago and i have been using the 7D alot and it still is not broken in quite yet. But i will say that the new mesh once broken in is still a very high quality mesh and Jima is still deffinatly still worth buying from. Who knows maybe they will get a new kind of mesh better than the old mesh? who knows.

I've been using the new stuff and it isn't as great as the old stuff was, but i've just been using hard.
But is the Cata this bad or is it just the trad. hard mesh?

Blech. The new stuff is terrible. Impossible to hand stretch.

i dont think its that bad. its just really really hard. i stretched it out for like 10 minutes and strung up a pretty good pocket.

I have no clue what you guys are talking about. I just ordered from jimalax last week or so and the hard mesh is fine. I can strech it with my hands fairly easy and it hasn't crapped out on me, I just played with it in the rain today also and it was fine.

Just by looking at it you can sort of see it has a plastic look to it.
On a side note, STX changed their mesh and certain pieces are very good quality now.
I'm sitting here stretching out some of the old mesh. It's pretty nice. :D
I had trouble like that before with cata, it turned into american 1 day after i strung it on a rainy day. It sounds like the cata is better now but i havent ordered it since. Ive had the same piecce of the old hard mesh in my head for about 6 months with a lot of use, and its still nice. Jima has been inconsistant with their hard meshes in particular though. Im gonna be making an order probably within the next week, so i ll give an update than. And like falconsmikevick said, has anyone tried the lax.com e-lacrosse or laxworld mesh lately?

well, w/ the ''baggage'' in poor weather, just before a game put the stick right in front of the little heater at the bottom of your wall and it gets so hard, it also holds up longer.

the new mesh i got was very strange. it was traditional d and it sucked in the rain. heck it wasnt even raining. it was a drizzle, and my shaft wasnt even wet. point is, when i was throwing, it was really wippy. i would throw it and it would go either way low or off to the side on a sidearm, and i strung it so it had a smooth release.
i also noticed when i was stringing that a diamond wasnt right. it was kinda lopsided. like on the smoothside, to the top right of the diamond, it was shorter than the other side.

Well, this is a shame, I'm not going to order this and string it for people if it's terrible.
And I askd for a lot for xmas.
Hopefully they stuck with my authentic canadian and Cata..Lets pray they fix this.

The reason the warrior mesh is like the old Jima is because the warrior mesh is the old jima mesh!
Warrior buy their mesh from Jima, so the stuff they hav in their kits now will have been bulk bought from Jima before they changed!
I haven't seen the new mesh yet, but not looking forward to it!
Have they moved production out of the USA, to china maybe??

Well I knew stores bought from Jima but I wouldn't expect a major company to buy from them. If so, that's cool.

so is the colored jima hard the same as it used to be? cause i know my neon orange was really hard and once broken in its amazing..did that change? if not ill just buy a bunch of black and neon meshes

Has anyone noticed that the colored mesh seems softer than the white mesh. Does anyone know why?

11-28-2006, 05:48 PM
Hey everybody, let me clear this all up once and for all. The "new" hardmesh is really not that different from the "old" hardmesh. The new stuff has that blueish tint to it only in dark or indoor areas, if you bring it out into the sun you will see it is very white. We experimented with the mesh by sending it to the dyehouse to be dyed optical white. It leaves as natural soft mesh and returns as optical white soft mesh. We then coat it in the exact same way as always. Other than the optical white dying stage, it is the exact same process as before. Additionally, we still have tons (thousands upon glorious thousands) of the other "old" stuff. It seems that many of you do not appreciate the change, which is fine. As of tomorrow (all orders placed after 11/28 6:45PM EST) I will use only the original style hard mesh. For those of you that prefer the optical white, I will add it to the website as soon as I get a chance. In the meantime, you can simply request it via the order notes.
I am sorry for any confusion it all this may have caused. I know you guys are very particular about your mesh. Other than the slight blueish tint, the mesh is virtually identical and of the same high quality our mesh has always been, I would never try to pull a fast one on you guys. Our only objective was to try to make a brighter, cleaner, purer white hard mesh.
If the optical white gets wet, it should harden back up once it dries. It should not perform any differently after getting wet then the original hard mesh.
I've also gotten emails from some people that mention a strange rumor of our mesh becoming plasticy. This rumor is totally false, nothing has changed since day one.
If anyone has any questions they would like addressed, I will try to keep an eye on the forums for the next few days.
Thanks everyone,
Jim

Playing up here in the Northwest we need mesh that definately holds up in the rain. I have used colored and white mesh so far and it has been great so I really want to know if the new mesh does not work in the rain. There is nothing I hate more than when the mesh total bags out in the rain, shots go straight into the ground, the stick is illegal and you can't pass worth... I guess I will have to order some and see but any more examples of experience in the rain would be great.
^ thats why i love jimalax, im making a big order soon hopefully ill get the old stuff.

is it just the regular hard mesh? because i just ordered some 12d, and by your guys description, this new mesh is not goalie friendly. i need it to be broken in hard! soft doesnt throw and too hard gives up all the rebounds.

goalie1215,
just fyi, 12D is the same as always. the only mesh we have ever tried in optical white is traditional hard attack. hope you like your 12D, thanks for ordering.

I am a first time jimalax user and ordered just before i heard about this new "bad mesh". I ordered the Carolina blue mesh and it came with the new "bad white mesh". i have been testing both out and it seems like the blue mesh is the old stuff because there is a huge difference between the two.

hey does the optical white dye mesh stretch like crazy for anyone else? because this stuff is like elastic. within 10 minutes of wallball, this strecthes atleast 1 cm. and everything in my stringing is as tight as possible
