I'd get the zune. Bigger screen, scratch resistant screen, Customizable backrounds and just great hardware. Also It's made by microsoft so I doubt there are any problems with it.

Yea but I want it for video and The Zune doesn't tell me what video formats it can take. The toshiba can take AVI, MP4, and .MOV

Wait... are you being serious or kidding? Just because Microsoft has a history of making not very user friendly things.

thats exactly the issue, microsoft has millions of viruses and do you know how many apple has(or toshiba for that matter)? zero.
plus the toshiba is a 60gb,meanwhile the zune is a 30gb.
scratch resistant screen?use a case.
bigger screen?its not like your going to watching full vids on it are you?
toshiba has a 20 hour lithium-ion rechargeable battery.how long does the zune last?12 hours thats how much.
id suggest the toshiba, but a plus for the zune is you can import from itunes with it,you cant with the toshiba.

I would say zune even though it has less gigs, because it sounds like they sell more and from a business standpoint if you sell more you should have berret programs and stuff to run on. Also i think microsoft has amasing teck support but thats just from presonal experences.

I never was impressed by the Zune when you send a person a song they can only listen to it 3 times and then they have to buy it. Go with the toshiba of just get an ipod.

Grab the Gigabeat.
I just bought one about a month ago. Amazing deal.
It can be easilly scratched, so definately find a case. I highly recommend using Napster to Go. 14.95 a month, unlimited downloads to the gigabeat. You don't have to use lame *** itunes or microsoft's new thing. Tons of songs, every once in a while you fnd some that havn't been released yet, so if you want to download them you must pay the 99 cent fee, but this isnt very common.
I am in love with my gigabeat, ive used ipods for a long long time.
2 Issues with it...
1) Hard to find peripherals (cases, fm transmitters)
2) When browsing through your music via artists, you must go through the album that the songs are from as well. There is not a show all feature as seen on the ipod.
30gigs is a huge difference for the same price. Honestly, I dont get a great vibe from the Zune. But yea, I HIGHLY recommend the gigabeat.

Lowell: why is it between those two? Why no iPod considerations?
The zune is junk, seriously. If you talk to anyone that knows anything about computers, they'll say the same thing...or if you read any of the reviews on it, they'll say the same thing as well.
By the way, the zune is basically a gigabeat. MS used the same base design to make the zune with a few modifications.

depends... do you use itunes for your music? if so you better get the zune. and a scartch resistant screen? doubt it. also will the zune work with mp4s and avi files?
going by cosmetics, i would say the toshiba. i think the zune is hideous, that and when i saw it at circuitcity when i bought my creative zen saturday it was HUGE.
also, from what you posted the zune doesnt have an FM radio. i dont know how important that is to you because i never use mine but its a nice feature to have. also, as someone else said, 30GBs more for the price is a great deal.
i would definitly say go witht he Toshiba

Why do you say that? The zune doesn't work with itunes....or any other software other than the zune software. In fact, you can't even get windows to recognize it as an external/detachable storage device.

I've been looking pretty heavily into getting a Toshiba Gigabeat S60.. I've found it online for $250, which I find to be a steal and it will probably me my birthday present.
EDIT: But I don't think it gets 20 hours per charge.. check out the cnet review
I just got the zune yesterday and its awesome. Only downside is its thickness but other than that...its Great.

Lowell, may I ask why you're not considering an iPod?

Meh, I had an Ipod and I'm just looking for something different. The only problems I had with my Ipod is just well, none. I just don't want and Ipod. I had a PSP and liked that but it was just to bulky and big. I had all my media but it did not work out. The only thing that is weird about the Toshiba is the TV menu. I don't know what this is. Can someone explain?

actually thats not entirely true.if you make a folder on your desktop of your music(export from itunes or other software)you can load your zune from the folder on the desktop.

If you have a TV tuner on your video card, you can record TV shows and stuff and it will be placed in your My TV files or whatever folder that windows makes.
I have Tivo, which is connected to my home network, and I just transfer them to my PC, same concept, but they go under videos.
But yea, its for a TV tuner.
The gigabeat's battery life isn't the greatest. I'd imagine its similar to the zune. A large color screen eats up alot of power. If you have playlists going and stuff, it will go for like 6-7 hours, but if you are constantly shuffling through your library and making the hard drive run and run, than the battery will die quickly. Just turn the backlight down, its worked wonders for me.
Actually now that I think about it, with the backlight down to the lowest setting I can watch about 4-5 hours of video...and its still extremely visible.
I dont use many playlists though, so it may actually be quite a bit longer.
You'll definately enjoy the gigabeat...Seriously, get Napster to Go....Awesome service, can't stop raving about it.

That's true, but then again there's a way to jerry(sp?) rig everything to work with everything with a little hacking here and there. In the sense that I was refering to, itunes won't recognize the zune, and music purchased on itunes won't work on the zune.

If it ain't broke...don't fix it... Why switch devices if you don't have any problems with the ipod? No other device has the same ease of use and simple functionality. Nor does any device have the same kind of third party accessories. Just don't see the point I guess, oh well. Good luck with the Gigabeat. Let us know how you like it once you get it!

Well Well Well,
I got the Toshiba and I think that it is a very good product. From my picture you see the main screen, once you click on one of those items you will never see the menu again.... It will take the background of what you where doing, like a movie, or album cover or something like that. That is my only complaint.(SP?)
The screen is way bigger than I thought it would be, it delivers movies in very good quality.
The interface is very exciting and it is EXACTLY like the Zune interface.
The buttons are very easy to use and the only weird thing about it is the play/pause button is on the side as well as the fast forward and rewind buttons.
Well, this is pretty much a very short review of the Toshiba Gigabeat and I think it is a very good product.

Well, you have the toshiba now, but the Zune software converts those formats into .wmv for you.
My Zune owns, great for movies.
