Helmet, shoulder pads, arm pads, and gloves if you were asking for a general idea (Maybe you didnt know?)
Specifically: Cascade CPX, G-Force Shoulder pads, Gait Flare elbows (im a defender), Stx Ignitors

um...it's illegal to play without shoulder pads. maybe you got the rib pads and shoulder pads confused with each other. rib pads are optional. gloves, helmet, shoulder pads, and arm guards are required to play field.

I wear arm guards and a pair of shoulder pads that have everything cut off so it's just on my chest.

The pads I wear for box wrap around, so their both in one. I think that's pretty common in the thicker rib pads used for box.

yes box players wear kidney pads which are pretty much some beefy rib pads that have more plastic

rib pads are for sissys. thats all i can say. unless you have kidneys that will burst with rough contact, a broken rib, or are a hemopheliac (shouldnt even be playing) then rib guards are not neccessary.

And if you've ever taken the wrong check from a lumberjack, needed extra protection from previous injures (ie lower back, cracked ribs, things you wouldn't like to exacerbate again), or are stepping onto the field against some beasts who grew up on a physical game or boxla (where kidney pads are almost a necessity on the floor), you'd see that rib pads are sometimes needed. Take a flip through lax photos, you'll notice plenty of Pros wear them. For sissies? One day you may be proven wrong and not like the outcome.
Sidewinder, to answer you question, with me it varies. I always wear armpads, but if it's a game that's against a team that likes to throw lumber, I'll put on shoulderpads (I have a very beat up pair of rhinoskin, no sleeves no caps...I may eventually get a new adams liner) and if I really think I'll need them, rib pads. Sometimes if my lowerback is acting up (temp changes, playing after a long period of inactivity or it just plain doesn't like me that day) I'll wear the rib pads but still forgo the sp's if I don't think I need them.

Yes, well when you are playing box lax and get cross checked in the ribs, and probably start crying. You'll be the sissy who broke his ribs and was unable to finish the season.

They're essential in box, and a good idea for all types of laX.
If you keep playing, you'll eventually find this out the hard way.

He didn't say that was the case everytime. It's just a possibility for a reason to wear rib pads. You can't tell me there aren't any box teams that have those kind of defencemen. he didn't even aim that post at you, I don't see why you are so offended.

Shoulder Pads with no Caps/Biceps, And minimal arm guards. Pain is good. I embrace it.

Depends on your playing style, if you want to be quick and versatile; wear some light padding (liners, armpads)
If you rather go through the defence than around it; wear something heavy; (shoulderpads, ribpads, armguards).

i dont understand what your saying, i was telling him the truth.Ive seen these guys play and they are rough, not dirty, just rough.Your right almost all box teams have at least 1 or 2 of these dmen. And on another note he was aiming that post at me seeing that i was the one who asked the question in the first place not to mention started the thread. :chair: :dummy:

Low pro is the way to go. Haha that sounds awesome. But seriously Low Profile stuff is amazing, there is almost zero restrictions from it.

ive been injured before. not in lax though. i was riding my bike without a helmet once, and i jumped off a ramp. them a stupid kid (my neighbor) threw a stick into my wheels. i was about 3 feet in the air when i can crashing down on my head. i ending up having a concousion. it was a good thing my friend was there. i forget the rest.
