I just want to know how some coaches defend someone on X, when there in a 2-3-1 or in a 3-2-1. It seems like a very tough spot to slide from because you can give up a shot from two feet away. And how do u play the X in zone

in a zone, no.

in man D it depends on hte circumstances. how good of a player X is and how good my crease defender is, etc. usually though i like to keep my crease defender right in front.

i usually dont have my players cover X, even in out man to man. htey just wait on GLE for him to come around.

i see no point to faceguarding a man in a place where he isnt a scoring threat. its worked pretty well. that said, some players get more latitude in when and how long they can chase a man behind.

i also have a signal that i use to tell my player to go behind to cover a man during any given play

my team dosent cover the X e watchs incase he wrapes around and calls out cutters and helps cover cutters and then lays out the guy when hes trying to come around

The farthest player from the ball is never a scoring threat, unless you play zone.

We play a 2-1-2 zone. 2 men at or near GLE, 1 man in the middle and 2 up top. Basiclly a box and 1. Our strategy is 1 of the bottom 2 will cover x when x man has the ball, and the middle man will slide.

IN your situation, does the guy at X have the ball?

If the guy at X doesn't have the ball then I would never have him covered unless I'm locking him off by faceguarding.

If the guy does have the ball then foo55 hit it right on the nose. How good are my Dpoles, is the guy at X weak. If it's little league and the guy at X is really a weak player I'd have one of my guys go out there, infact I would have a specific word to attack the guy at x. But on anormal basis I would not cover X. Another thing to consider is the score of the game, you're up then don't cover, the man at X cannnot score so why guard him.
