The holidays have now come for me and i don't have school for two months
I want to start up a band sometime but i can't play an instrument
So these holidays i'm gonna learn how to play either bass or guitar.
I already have the guitars at my house, cause my brother plays
So which should i learn?

I would go with the guitar, but I hear bass is pretty neat as well.
If you want to provide a lot of the main instrumental parts of the band, go with guitar. Bass is good if you want to provide the beat, rythm, etc.
You could do both? They're not rediculously different from each other. Good luck.

Bass is amazingly fun...just picked it up a couple of weeks ago and I have a hard time putting it down.

Bass is awesome. It is one of the best, and most challenging instruments, especially when you learn to play improv and other things like that. Go with bass.

i say bass, because it will be easier for you to learn in a few weeks. im not dissing the bass, i dont want hate mail lol, i'm just saying that the basics are much easier to pick up on than guitar, in my opinion. becoming really good is of course hard...but for the short time span aus is allowing himself, i say bass

personally the bass is easy to learn in a feww weeks cuz all u have to do is play like 5 notes in some easy progression. However if you learn guitar first you have a great background if you ever need to play the bass for a day, But you can't really go from bassist to guitarist that quickly.

i play drums, bass, and a little of guitar. If you want something thats easier and your good at keeping type and junk play bass, if you want to stand out more, play guitar
i also play drums in a band. A really good bassist can be a good asset.

I'd say bass. I hear it is a ton easier to play plus the world needs more bassists

What instruments do your friends that you would start up a band with play? If there's a shortage of bass players, picking that up might not be a bad idea. Guitar, however, might take a little longer than two months to become decent at unless your willing to dedicate most of the day to it, whereas bass is a little simpler to pickup and play.

In my local music scene, bands are always looking for either bassists or drummers.
So I'd say Bass

Guitar... I refuse to succumb to the stereotype that african americans must play bass.
But yeah, bass is fun too though, it's probably the most needed in the band... bands are aLWAYS looking for bass. But bassists don't get solos.

guitar, its harder to learn, but will be way more beneficial in the long run... plus, picking up bass will be a cinch, but if you take bass first, you will have to start over again if u decide to learn guitar

listen to any song by The Who. John entwistle is an amazing bassist. you could describe his bass lines in an entire song as a solo. i say pick up the bass and listen to victor wooten. and everybody plays the guitar now a days.

i've decided guitar because i'd like to know some of both. and if u play diablo you know that harder skills advance the lesser skills. and i've done a bit og guitar b4.
and now i can already play adam's song, whats my age, by blink. hells bells, thunderstruck, rock n roll ain't noise pollution by acdc.
so what are som easy songs to start playing

Bass I heard might be easier to learn and you can always find place in a band as a bass. But you can do more with a guitar beacause it has more strings.

Primus has Bass solos....Seen em live in Detroit barely 2 weeks ago. It was awsome.
Bass is easier to learn and IMO sounds a lot cooler then a guitar solo....before I get flamed yes I've heard Vai and all the "gods of guitar" if you will. Bass has more funk to it...and funk is good. :read:

Dude, I play both bass and guitar, and trust me, bass is SOO much better. The world needs another bassist, and I don't know about you, but my dream is to be as good as Flea. And I mean, who doesn't want to be like flea?

bass players are probably the coolest people on the planet. so, if you are not cool, play guitar. if you are cool, play bass. but if you start playing bass, and it turns out you're not cool...we'll kick you out
