i have always had some interest in these shafts. but i still havent seen one except for in the pictures on the website, and they dont show the triangular handle. i searched around and couldnt find anyone who posted with thier talon and took pictures of it. so does anyone on TLF actually have one of the Talon Shafts? and if you do...could you review it and post some pics.

i have the talon legend, it is a very nice shaft with a solid feel to it. I use it with a razer pro and love the set up. The grip youre talking about is also very nice- the shape of it conforms to your hand and feels a lot more natural when cradling and cranking up to shoot. Shaft is also pretty durable, i used it in a box league and it took some nasty checks and doesnt chip or dent and still has no signs of wear. All in all i really love this shaft due to the company's message but it is also undeniably a great product. If you want specific pics just post and ill take whatever you want.

oh and the butt end cap thing it comes with is pretty bad *** too, an eagles claw holding a lacrosse ball

my coach uses a talon and they feel so nice. the only problem is the price which is $115 or $125 for their better shafts.

I have used a Talon and so has one of my attackmen. It was the kanuga grip and it was pretty nice... 8/10. It has been game tested and it's said it's better than any harrow or the python. Essestially, the quality is very high but that translates into the price like wolverine said. The stick is lighter than you would think so it looks like an old crooked arrow but feels a bit heavier than a middle of the road alloy. The kona is nasty...

I have a Talon. I used it at the Hawaii Lax tourny this past Oct. You can see me using it on talonlacrosse.com, I'm the player with the Marine camo jersey.

Anyways, I love the handle. The feel is so natural its wierd to describe. I like handles that have a distinct feel to them, like the powergrip, but this is just great. A lot of people here in Japan are really excited about it when I show them. They all think its wood and are amazed to find that its a hallowed out fiberglass laminate.

It'll take plenty of checks as witnessed in Hawaii. I feel really confident in its ability. Also you can't loose with Cort Kim and his brother (the creators) they are a great bunch of guys.

I don't know the wieght. Its light though. I'm used to the Titan Classic so its light that and I'm a big guy and don't notice little changes in wieght. The Serpent is a bad *** handle. I played and hung out with Nate Kenney or Natron. Hes a the ****in man and he was all about the Serpeant since its his bros buisness, or was. Good pick!

Its fiberglass...

Well the last email I got from him he was apparently seperating to start his own buisness. The investors in Serpeant didn't see eye to eye with his back to the roots of lacrosse marketing.

Thats a way to hard picture to capture. Sorry. Its really not a noticible change with gloves on. Although I would def. recommend that you DO NOT get thier butt cap. Its cool looking but the claws aggrivated my pinkey and I cut it off.

Yes, Chris told me he was seperating.

They are really popular in Norcal. My friend and another player on my team has it. They feel pretty weird, like they flex when checked. I like them but I don't think anything can top my Dolomite right now.

Anyway, they are nice, they do dent. Trust me on that, there not like Harrows. The stick will form dents like wood shafts do.

Here is a review i wrote for the Legend, i sent it to FLD last wed and he hasnt responded

The Talon Legend. Many have heard about it but it still is a mystery to many of you I am sure. Living in the Bay Area California I have been able to meet the creators of the Talon (a really great group of guys, played at Albany and on the Korean National team) and have seen/used many in highly competitive U-15 Allstar and 8th grade A game play. I was personaly issued a custom one (has "Norcal 2007 burned into it) through the Norcal U-15 Vail team. We have had them for a good three or four weeks and I have decided it is time for a review.

Pros:

1. sick feel. The shaft itself is a thick fiberglass core (still hollowed out) with a thin wooden laminant over the fiberglass, you get the feel of wood with extreme lightness.

2. Awesome Grip. The Legend is extremely unique and has a traditional octagon shape that goes up a good 6 inches from the bottom and around 10 inches from the top, the space between the octagon grip is a triax shape. The result is like no other shaft you have used.

3. Looks cool. I am a fan of solid hickory shafts and any wood shaft looks is ill in my opinion.

4. Very light. This can iether be a pro or con but I assume more people like lighter shafts than heavier one. Personaly, if i hold my solid hickory in one hand and this in the other, it feels like that talon is a twig and can almost shatter if I drop it.

Cons:

1. The main problem by far, like all shafts is the durability issues. I have personaly seen two snap in one season and have heard of many more.

2. The price is also a draw back, very steep price.

Over all, If you are playing in a highlevel highschool or any college that the Talon is a simple NO. Way to much money and it WILL break sooner rather than later. The Legend however is a great stick for a coach or younger player or anyone with some money, I however wouldnt recomend it for any gamplay over the highscool varsity level.

i have emailed Cort Kim and he said they are making goalie and D shafts, infact, you can buy a goalie talon shaft for like $140, but i dunno, you guys think it would be good for goalie? i mean i don't care about price right now, just wonderin if you think it would be good? By the way, the goalie shaft is called the: Talon Keeper, the defensive shaft is called: Talon Protector, just wanted to share that info just incase you want to email them.
Even though they are expensive, i like their customer service, Cort is very nice and emailed me the next day, plus, they are just people who love lacrosse and want to bring the tradition back, i would pay even more just because they seem like fine gentlemen.

im probably gonna buy a legend so i can have a shorstick to bring places during my freetime instead of lugging around a goalie stick, but again, if you think the goalie shaft would be sweet, or wouldn't be sweet, please tell me why.

all help is greatly appreciated.

Take off your head, get a long metal dowell (spl?) and then just keep ramming the dowell down the shaft till it comes off.

Yep, I HATE them. You can have mine for some stringing supplies...

All I did was grip it between my feet like you would with a head, pops right off

AttackMan18
07-12-2007, 03:53 AM
yea, you can do that or you can just heat it a little to get it warm and pull it off. Thats what my friend did. When I was in Florida for the U-15 tournament at diney, kids from like colorado, and the east coast teams like our costomized talons. Some kids wanted to buy even if they said Nor Cal 2007 on them for a 100 dollars or more..

Just curious, what is the reason for the hatred of the Talon butt end? I thought they looked kind of interesting and was considering buying one.

it does look cool, but the claws bother me when i cradle, plus i like a really minimal butt-end on my shorties.

i'm intrigued with the idea of shaving off the claws leaving the round end.

I wouldn't suggest the talons. Although they seem very cool, i'm guessing it can ship and since its wood, once it chips, during rain games it can rot. Also once it chips you can get splinters like i do w/ my hockey stick.

spenny
07-13-2007, 12:24 PM
i think its unlikely that it will rot.
ive got wood sticks from the 80s that have been badly mistreated and they havent rotted or anything like that.

ive never heard of anyone getting splinters from a wood shaft either, and i played in an era where there were lots of woodies on the field.
i suppose that you could get splinters, but you should be wearing your gloves, so that would solve that problem.

both of those points are pretty picune.

wooks, you are the man. i used a dowel and got it off. i used a 3/8th inch dowell, it was pretty thin and broke, but it was still long enough to loosen it so that i could could pull it off.

manup, i tired your method, but mine was on there pretty tightly and it didnt seem like it was going anywhere, and i had the dowell lying around.

thanks guys!

On youtube.com it shows talons d-shaft, maybe not a talon, i think it was the destroyer or something, but it snpped a titanium shortie in half in 3 swings. It was hilarious. Look it up.

Edit:

Quoted from youtube.com

An introduction to the two new defense shafts by Talon Lacrosse: the Protector 60, which is lighter in weight for precise stick checks and optimal stick handling, and the Beast... the name speaks for itself. This one is designed to deliver punishment to opposing players. Lay the wood to 'em!

Those things were bending shafts in 1 blow, but maybe the guy was just ripped.

One of the shafts they were snapping was a warrior dolomite.
