whats up with all the spam that we've been getting lately. Its starting to get out of control, like today there was a thread with a porn pic in it. Is this going to go away?

Probably not, as it's pretty much impossible to block all spammers unless they all have the same IP address (which they don't). It's just something we have to live with, and try getting the threads deleted as soon as possible.

It only shows how popular the site is. The more traffic, the more these spammers get the site's address showing up on their radar. As they start noticing people coming here, they will start to advertise on here, hoping to get a few hits before their ad is dragged down.

Sad really, but rest assured your moderation team is doing all they can to stop this.

The mods have noticed the huge boost in spam as well. Yes, it is really annoying. We're thinking about putting in some protection things to prevent spammers from logging in as much, but for now the best thing you guys can do is report the threads (which you've been doing an EXCELLENT job with).

One other thing: Try not to post in the thread. It only bumps the thread up for more members to see, which means the spammer has succeeded in gaining traffic.

Yea, I have only seen one spam thread ever, and that was yesterday. It seems the mods are doing a good job of deleting them quickly.

couldnt you set it so like you need 10 posts before you can make a thread ? Then this would stop people from making an acc and then making a spam ad. It can also force new members to look and search for threads instead making a thread already being discussed

Seconded.

I've seen a few spam threads lately, to be honest, I found them slightly funny.

Then people could really quickly just make 10 posts. They could just put like yah i agree in every thread. Then that would completely demolish the purpose of bad for post which end in a perma bad. Or advertize there spam in popular threads then make one. Plus thats hard for the mods. Just do what Lax101 and don't post in the threads and report it. Just read the mod's posts thats where you get the info in what to do when you see a spam thread. The mods are working as hard as they can.

Well, by instating the 10 post rule, it makes the spammers go to more effort to create threads, so hopefully they'd just get go looking for easier prey. On the other hand...

They'd probably just do exactly this if they had to post first. So yes, I agree, any spammer with half a brain would just find popular threads and let loose a torrent of brand names.

Its a good idea to stop them for about a day. They'd quickly figure out that all you need to do is reply in another thread, and they can post their junk. We're working on more effective methods, but all of them take tons of moderation time. We have plans, but they just need to be refined.

I'm going to close the thread not because we don't appreciate your suggestions and comments, its because we know what the board can do, and what we want to do about the spammers. But if you do have a great suggestion, swing it to me through PM and I'll take it into consideration.

Thanks guys for your understanding, and patience with this issue.
