This season the team wants a really good pump up chant to get everyone excited, but i dont want one thats cheesy, corny, or something fake like out of a movie. in football we had a sweet one where everyone would break down and swing side to side and say we ready we ready we ready etc. and after every 'we ready' we'd get higher then we'd start jumping, but i dont want to take that from the football program. what do your teams do for a good pregame chant that i can borrow?

on my football team, one of the kids watched the show friday night lights, and appearently in it they have a chant, like clear heads, open hearts, cant lose... somthin along those lines, and he changed it to big dicks, hot chicks, power football. casue my coach would always say power football, and it kinda caught on and it worked pretty well.

My football team does this chant (or what we call the breakdown):

Everyone makes a circle around the captain and starts clapping slowly then eventually at a fast pace

Captain: What type of day is it
Team: Great day to be alive
Captain: Rebels (my teams name) how do you feel
team:Fired up
Captain again: How do you fell
Team: Fired up
Captain: how do you feel
Team:Fired up
Captain: Breakdown ready
Team: set
Captain: ready
Team: set
Captain: Ready
Team: set
Captain: ready
Team: set
Captain: ready ready ready
Team: set set set
Captain: set set set
Team: *clap 3 times

our team name is the barons and he have this thing called the baron bounce, we get into a huddle and start jumping and chanting "barons, barons" over and over again starting soft and slow and ending loud and fast with a yell. that usually gets the job done. another one that we dont use that often but i like it is when you have a game in really bad weather or something and a captain or someone yells out "what kinda day is it?" and everyone else responds "a great effin day for lacrosse"

We did that my senior year of high school. I would suggest only doing it if you're a good team, otherwise you just looks like fools (luckily, we were a good team)

because our coach said we weren't good enough to be called the Warriors.
but we chanted Warriors on three in the championship game =)

{Team Name]
What do we do?!
Hit to kill!!!
What do we do?!
Hit to kill!!! Hit to kill!!! Woooo!!!

my old pop warner team had the best chant ever.
we'd do a slow lap on the track before our games and say...

C - who are we?
T - chargers
C - who?
T - chargers
C - who?
T - chargers
C - who we gonna beat?
T - (opponent)
C - who?
T - (opponent)
C - who?
T - (opponent)
C - what we gonna give 'em?
T - hell
C - what?
T - hell
C - what?
T - hell

repeat until lap is done.
and then get in a huddle and do "win on three. 1-2-3 win"

my hockey team this year would get togeher in front of the net. I, the "A" capt. would give my speech, then i would yell "WHO ARE WE" 3 times and after evey time they would yell HOUNDS!!! then i would count out "1.2.3." then we would all yell "BE THERE PERE". We say be there Pere because the guy that found Athol Murray College of Notre Dam was named Pere Athol Murray. He was a preist. I thought it was pretty sweet. Got me fired up.
But before we left the looker we all went down on one knee and the capt would yell this prayer.
O heavenly father, Help us play hard, Within the rules, Never lose Heart, Struggle and Emerge, For Pere, For the team, For Notre Dame, For hounds, hounds everywhere, Amen. Team repeats after him. its pretty cool to.

Dear Notre Dame, we hail thee Alma Mater
Thy loyal sons ty banners proudly bear
We pledge to thee our love and our devotion
We beg thee hear and grant our prayer
Oh guide out steps and lead us safely onward
Though all the years with loving care
(start banging on something)
What though the odds be grate or small
Old Notre Dame will win over all
While her loyal sons are marching
Onward to victory.
Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame
Wake up the echoes cheering her name
Send a volley cheer on high
Shake down the thunder from the sky
Old Notre Dame will win over all
While her loyal sons are marching
onward to victory
NOTRE DAME!!!

did you do the haka as well or just the chant?
i love it when polynesian teams (mostly football) do the haka because of their ancestory and what it means to them

Haha, no. I posted it in there because it just trumps any other pregame chant in existence. Personally I'd leave the haka to people & teams of Maori origin (or any other relevant South Pacific culture it is also a part of), it's just silly for teams from middle America to co-opt in my opinion.
