View Full Version : 4 shooters overdoing it?

A few dumb questions here...would one nylon at the top then 3 horiztonal hockey laces below it be a little over the top? Could you get the same effect from a hockey lace or two less? Is it the more horizontal shooters the harder the shot? Thanks.

it all depends, anyone will tell you...whatever works for you if 4 shooters works then go with it, the only way to know is to experiment

1) 'over the top' is a phrase determined by preference. some players use 4+ strings while others may use less. three horizontal and one u is a popular design on the princeton team.
2) typically, the more strings you have, the less whip there is; but it also depends on the placement of the pocket.
3) no. things like the v pocket make shots harder, or at least that's case in my experience.

my friend made a hammock pocket that had hockey laces filling the entire pocket except for a square area the size of the ball...I think THAT's overdoing it. But what you are suggesting isn't bad at all. I usually have 3 hockey laces and 1 nylon anyways. Just go with preference though.

nah its up 2 u i have a V 2 throwing 1 wrap 1 twist and a nylon
Shooting strings just alter the way the ball comes out of the stick (ie not off the plastic), so how many you use shouldn't affect your shot speed. I've always needed at least 4 in a deep pocket to make the ball come out with no whip, but I'm trying stuff with the sidewalls now to see if I don't need so many. But in short, what you're doing is probably fine as long as the ball comes out the way you want it to.

its your preference as everyones saying.....it also can make the head a little heavier but not much...i have 1 nylon and 2 horizontal and 1 u...that works pretty good too

Like everyone has said it's really preference but about your last question its not true that more shooters means a faster shot. If anything they will make a weaker shot as the ball hitting the shooters will slow it down a bit though in reality you wont notice. Just use whatever works for you.

some leagues and levels of play limit the number of hockey laces and such you can have in your stick. Just a heads up. if memory serves, NCAA limits you to 3 hockey laces I *think*.

No because that one kid said princeton had 3 horizontal and a v or u.

I Use two straight laces and a lace u above a lace v. its like an upgraded powell pocket. it works for me, lots of whip and perfect hold on fakes.

do more shooting strings really give less whip? i use only 3 and my pocket has a ton. theres nothing screwed with it either maybe other than the shooting strings

well. it depends on where your pocket is and also side wall strings also affect it

4 shooting strings is definantly not over doing it, i have 5 shooting strings right now in my torque and i put the same pocket in my cyber and it works the same way...i have 3 across the top, then i have a wide U then a U underneath it that stays 1 row of mesh away from the other U, this pocket has 1 of the quickest releases that ive ever seen, even though that u might think it would take longer for the ball to get out of the pocket cuz its so low in the head...

I have six shooting strings on my new pocket. And it is amazing, some whip and super smooth release.
