Has anyone done this? My coach suggested that I look into one (which one I'm not saying right now), but I have no idea what this whole process means. I'm just looking for advice, and I know that I don't necessarily have to be born in that country. I have the heritage for it though. If there has been a thread regarding this, I couldn't find it. Advice, stories?

i was thinking about doing this for the country my mom was from. I would reccomend learning to speak the lanuage pretty well or at least know some lax terms and off-feild phrases so you can communicate.

What countries are we talking about here, gentlemen? I'm sure every national team has different sets of selection criteria....

I know which one I'm trying out for, and I know I meet the requirements. I just don't like giving out information about who I am. No one even knows which college program I play for. I should finally spill some more info about me eventually.

I don't think I could bring myself to play for a different Club to the one I grew up playing for, and no way could I consider playing for any other country than the one I grew up in.
If you have the goods to represent YOUR country thats unreal and go for it. If not, I think its tough luck and you shouldn't be trying to play for someone else's.
That's my point of view though and everyone can make their own decision.

Hey Garor, your best bet is to get in direct contact for the country you are wishing to represent. They can and will give you all the info you need on when tryouts will be and where.
Seeing as the World Cup has passed and more teams keep entering for the upcoming Box WC are you trying to get on a team for that or are you a little younger.
Good luck either way.............
You learn a lot at tryouts about yourself and how this team wants you to play. As Gary Gait say's KNOW YOUR ROLE

I dont think any one will hunt you down if you say what country your heritage is from while on-line. The more we know, the more we can help you.

Har har. Actually I never considered trying out for the US team. I never really wanted to either. I'm considering trying out for the Canadian team. My mom's Canadian so I meet that requirement.

Yeah, But why would you want to if your good enough to play for Canada you'd be good enough to play for Australia.

I would start by contacting the ILF, they can give you the appropriate contact info for the team you want to try out for.

In 2005, the year before the last Worlds, Team Canada had camps in 3 cities acrosse the country. The camps were held in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver. They took 50 in total for a final camp, which was in London Ontario, and made the team from those guys.
They won the tourney though, so you might have more luck trying out for the US team...

i'm also interested in trying out for a national team. since i'm moving to england after HS i might get a dual citizenship for wales, and try to play for them.
i have one question about my plan. would i just need to get citizenship to the UK (since wales is part of the UK), or citizenship to wales? thanks.

UK citizenship would cover it all, I'm pretty sure, I don't think you can actually get Welsh, Scottish, English or Northern Irish Citizenship i think you just get UK citizenship.

If the country you're considering is in Europe, check the European Lacrosse Federation: http://www.europeanlacrosse.org/country/index.html
The European Championship will be in August 2008 in Finland.
Keep in mind that national teams may only have a few non-passport holders and they must have a connection to the country: http://intlaxfed.org/pdf/ILF%20Eligibility%20Criteria%202005.pdf
Therefore, the standards are often much higher for non-passport holders.

Thanks for pointing that out. My mom was forced to give up her Canadian citizenship when she became an American citizen.
