i just got a letter in the mail about the top 205 rising junior lacrosse camp in towson. It said that i was recommended to this camp as one of the leading high school players in the nation. Does that mean that I am invited to this camp and I'm able to go or is it just I am recommended. Also is it really for the top 205 kids or does just anyone get a letter.

top 205 is pretty good. its more like the top 600 kids in your grade. it is probably the second best recruiting camp, 1st being graph-tex bluechip which is the top 114 kids in the nation.

im pretty sure my club coach recommended me but my friend thats a sophmore goalie at my school just got the same letter and he didnt really play on jv if that says anything. seeing how he got a reccomendation too it doesnt seem all that special anymore.

Well D1 coaches are going to be there, so I don't know what you define as special.

by special i meant that only a certain amount of kids that were good got one not just an okay goalie.

Top 205 is an invitation only camp. I'm sure they invite more kids than actually attend but you can't go without the invitation. I'm surprised you haven't heard of the camp since you are from MD. Did you ask your club coach if he was the one that recommended you? You need to be recommended by a high school, college or club coach directly to the Top 205 staff. This is a pretty exclusive camp with (if you believe the forums) about 400 kids at the camp (20 teams of 20). The rising senior camp has two (2) sessions (top 800) but I think there is only 1 rising junior.
Think about it... 400 kids from how many thousands in the nation? I'd say you are pretty good to be recommended. There many be some kids that get missed because they haven't played varsity or club but, for the most part, you are getting recommended becasue you can play at a high level.

Sorry for bringing this back, but do your coaches recommend you without telling you or is it something like where you sit down together and talk about where you want to go for camps and he recommends you? My coach from last year quit so I have no way of being recommended for anything
Farny
01-01-2007, 11:10 PM
It really has nothing to do with being good. Anyone can get recommended. It's not like they look into any of these players that the coaches say should be at the camp. My coach recommended three sophomores to the camp, and I'm pretty sure (though my friend says he hasn't seen the letter) that we all got invites. The sad thing is this friend isn't very good, and if there are real top rising juniors there, he will be outclassed.
Even in my case, though I think I'd do alright there, I didn't do anything special in my freshman year, and yet I get an invitation. Basically, if you coach wants to tell the guys running the camp that you should go, then you can go. But this means that any coach can recommend someone who is, well, not so great.

ron_burgundy
01-03-2007, 12:53 PM
yeah the quality of play there isn't like off the wall or anything. there are lots of chumps at that camp, so all it really means for you is that you are one of the top kids from your team. don't expect it to be all the sickest players in the country, b/c by that time most of the top rising senior prospects will have committed already. there are a lot of rising juniors there. the majority of the players are quality players but nothing ridiculous, a minority of them suck, and i would say about 10%-15% of the kids that go there are definite D1 players.

I was just talking to my coach today, and he said that he only gets a certain number of recommendations for the camp each year (this year he said he had 3) and that it could change depending on if we attend and how we play when we're there. Like, he said if we all go there and goof off he might only have like 1 next year.
Anyone know if that's true? Also, he said it's better than Blue Chip 225, if I were to go to just one.

My son was invited to Towson at the very beginning of Dec. When I went to enroll him last week, the camp was full with a 19 man roster waiting list for the defense. Don't know about other positions. This camp was for Rising Jrs. Just thought I'd put that out there in case there were people on the fence about going. Basically, it's a moot point for this year as I think that particular fence may be full.

When did you guys here back about the registration? I sent my stuff back to the camp at MD two-three days after i got it. How do they confirm registration?
LAXMomx3
01-22-2007, 09:33 AM
Send an email or call the camp directly to see if you are on the list.. waiting or otherwise. All that infor was on the brochure. We got the stuff in early November but didn't send it in until Dec. When I called to see about registration in early January, who knows what happened to the the stuff I sent in, but by the time I followed up the camp was full. So call. But I would also suggest that if your check was cashed (which mine wasn't) you're in.

In order, so I am told:
Jake Reed/graph-tex. By College coach recommendation, the top 114 in the country, many DI, DII and DIII coaches.
Top 205 by HS/club coach recommendation. Split this year between Juniors and Seniors, many DI, DII and DIII coaches.
Blue Chip 225 - Don't know too much about this one other than attended by mostly NE coaches.

md07...same concept as Reed's camp except your HS coach can recommend you...however be sure you're going to be noticed as a rising junior or you're going to fall off the coaches' watch list early...if you're not a top level player and do nor get a high ranking at this camp you're going to decrease your chances of being recruited.

Signifyinlion - what's your meaning about 205? If you are a good, rising junior with improving talent than no go? If your coach has any doubts about your ability against the top 400 rising juniors what are your options. Maybe there's a place for the B+ players that maybe need one more year of skill and size/speed improvement? Then they can go to Top205 as rising seniors and excel? What invite-only camps then for rising juniors below Jake Reed and Top205?

The men who thought up & run the 205 are legends in the lacrosse
world. Someone sees you there or finds out you were there, it's gold.
The reputation of 205 sells itself. Even if your in the top 1000 players
in this country, thats still an awsome expirence. For some young men,
it's the ONLY time a D1 coach will see you. You'll be with guys with
above average talent instead of your team mates. You should shine
like a new penny. ANYONE who gets a letter should be proud. lets hear
it for the new round of letters!!!!!! STUDY HARD & PLAY HARDER
ps............YES, it's worth $600.

Are the kids who went to the rising jr. last year going to get automatically invited to the rising sr this yr?
PS - is anybody else finding that this site load WAY SLOW lately?

Don't know about automatics.....new blood has been invited.
SO, if it was full last year, and they have new blood at the senior
level, I'd say someone isn't returning.

Unless they've changed the format, there's twice as many seniors potentially because there are two sessions, not just one. I doubt anyone is "automatically" invited, especially if you didn't do well the first time.

just curious, but why are you going to ne150 when you live in michigan? if i were traveling half way across the country and spending all that money, then i would go to topstar or blue chip225....just a thought

Well, if there is still room they will send you a confirmation e-mail saying that you were "in". However, it's getting kinda late and I don't know how much room is left. Get it in fast.
