do they give scholarships?

no scholarships, no help with admissions (except sometimes if you are really on the borderline they can MAYBE push you oever), not as heavy recruiting. you will have to pay dues to be on the team probably around $1000 a year or more, and depending on how they do their payments you might have to pay extra for things like gloves and etc. in addition to the dues. the flip side to all that negative stuff is that they are really competitive. club teams like BYU, CSU, and michigan would probably be top 20 in D3. some peoplethink they could compete in division 1 and maybe beat some of those teams, but that is a big debate and most people would say no club team could compete in d1. the time committment is pretty significant...something like a high level d3 team, but possibly more b/c they don't have NCAA restrictions on how much practice time they can have.

its sort of complicated but to sum it up playing for a good club team is like playing for a really good d3 team except at a big school.

I've heard similar things about many others schools, but when talking to a coach in the same league as BYU I was told it would take millions for most schools to become d1. And most MDIA teams are sponsered.

yeah some teams are but a sponsorship is big toward d1...and you can find alot about a program by reading about it/contacting the coach...yeah i heard it took about 14 million for a team to go d1... really depends on the schools athletic dept.

I am Mormon and i have checked it out and a few guys i go to church with have played or play for BYU currently. They are one of the strongest club teams in the nation and have a great coaching staff. They do well most seasons.

I have heard it is partial sponsorship. A kid at church said they get big discounts on STX equipment. I am not 100% sure. BYU as a school is pretty good. Last year, their buisness school was ranked 7th in the nation and their law school was like 15th.

And to dispell the myth, no, BYU isn't just for mormons. You just have to not be a party animal on campus. If you want to party, you can go down the road to UVSC. BYU has a really nice campus that is having new dorms put up in the very near future (they just tore down some of the older ones).

this is patently false. im going to columbia for my MBA so i know the rankings pretty well. BYU was "considered for ranking." it wasnt even close to seventh in 2006. the law school (clark) was 34th.

chuckdke, i red into it more, it isnt 7th for businessm, it was seventh two years ago for the accounting program, and dont tell me it isnt true. Maybe for a general degree it is lower, but BYU has a high output of accounting majors.

34th is better than many other schools can say, considering there are hundreds of colleges across the nation. I know many people that bash on BYU bash it simply becuase of its links to Mormonism.

The smart people would realize that if you want to go to a school to learn, and not party, then BYU is one of the top schools to go to.

Columbia University is definately a better business school than BYU.

im sorry i didnt mean to come across as bashing BYU. my parents live in sun valley, idaho, and i know lots of mormon people. i think they have values and principles that everyone should strive for. i believe what your saying about the accounting program and you're absolutely right about the the clark school of law...only 33 other schools can claim that they are "better."

i have the utmost respect for BYU's undergraduate and graduate program. i apologize if i sent the wrong message with my post.

My old high school teammate plays for BYU. But he's not playing this year because he is on his mission.

BYU's has an top-notch lacrosse progam. The Cougars are a big-time athletic university with, more importantly, a great academic reputation (which is why you're going to college in the first place).

Contrary to one of the earlier posts, BYU is not an intramural team. They are, however, a club team (i.e., don't fall under NCAA rules). Many of the top college club teams, such as BYU, compete at a level equal to if not higher than many NCAA D2 and D3 teams.

For example, BYU traveled to New York City this fall and beat three NCAA teams, including two D2 teams (NYIT and Molloy College) and one D3 team (Springfield College). FYI ..... Duke was in the same tournament, but BYU and Duke did not meet head-on. BYU does occasionally compete against D1 teams (for example, Denver University and U.S. Military Academy) and does quite well

I had the pleasure of watching BYU play in the National Tournament last spring in Dallas TX (my son plays lacrosse for another college that also qualified for the National tournament). BYU came very close to beating the eventual National champions, Colorado State, in the semi-finals.

In closing, BYU is a first-class academic university with a very competitive lacrosse program.

Here's the scoop...

A kid that graduated 05 at my school wanted to go to BYU, but he didnt get in and was planning on going to UC Santa Clara. But the summer before college, he sent the BYU coach his game tapes, and the coach got him in, and now he plays for BYU. But he's on his mission now so he wont play this year.

BYU refers to it self as virtual varsity. This means they play in a club league, but recieve alot of support from the University. Their game field is the nicest natural grass facility I havever played on or seen in person for that matter. They may not be NCAA, but I would say they are better supported than at leats 40% of D2 and 3 programs. You may pay to play, but everything is first class. Unis, gear, trainers, travel... They even play their home games on BYUTV which is on directtv. The honor code is very imposing though. You agree to live by the tenets of the church, which means no drugs, drinking, sex, cohabitation, and the like. If you violate it, you can be expelled. It is alot like Libery U, and alot of other religious schools. Ultimately, if you don't want to live by their rules, don't go there. Just like if you don't want to wake up, run, go to class all day and follow orders from superiors, then you really shouldn't go to Army, Navy, or Air Force.
