If you have a basketball court around(it's almost impossible not to) you can use it for sprints. most basketball courts you'll find are roughly 30 yards in length(high school courts are 28 yrds long and ncaa are 31.34yrds long) keeping that in mind, you could do the workout i suggest here: http://www.lacrosseforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6110
If not, jumping rope is ok but it won't increase your speed so much but it will help with agility. You can also jump over a cone or a crate. On one leg, alternating and then with both feet. If the best you can do is just running around the neighborhood, just jog normally and then for 30-60 seconds sprint 100% doing that every few minutes during your jog will help.
I personally find it really tough to stick with any kind of workout or conditioning if i can't do it at a proper location like a gym, field, or track. I get distracted just jogging around the neighborhood and it's a pain in the *** cause of hills, debris, traffic etc etc

I like ddr (dance dance revolution) for agility, and I also just place cones on the ground and stickhandle between them while switching hands.
