This is for those being recruited/aspiring to go to schools. Although, are "below" the usual academic average of that particular schools standards.

I'm interested in and getting recruited by:

Brown
Harvard
Middlebury
Colby
Bates
Cornell

Meanwhile, I have a 3.0 GPA I realize that for any Ivy League schools it seems unrealistic to be accepted on grades alone. The valedictorian at our school with a 3.9/4.0 and many accolades who has proved to be a potential hockey recruit for Tufts and got differed... When I heard this I became very worried because of course Tufts is a great school all around.. I would assume he would be automatically accepted. Meanwhile, the coaches are not at my front door bribing me with scholarships; however, I would say I am a standout player as all those schools have started talking to me. I already know that for most NESCAC schools.. A 3.0 can be worked around. However, why sell myself short? I want to go to Brown, Harvard, or Cornell! I've enrolled myself in mostly Honors and Advanced classes with some AP. I take that SAT's in March and so that should be a good equalizer (I hope).

Any positive feedback is greatly appreciated.. Of course I’m working on my grades.. I'm pretty sure by the end of junior year it should be a 3.2 3.1...

Should prep school be in high consideration?

How much pull does a coach and lacrosse talent have in the admissions process?

im kindof in your same boat right now (not with the same schools though) what i heard was that the school gives the head coach a overall recruit team gpa and it has to be balanced so lets say the team gpa is 3.5 one kid would have to have a 4.0 if another had 3.0. at least thats just what ive heard

edit: Also, sports do not affect whether Ivy League schools accept you or not. They have a reputation to uphold and they usually will not endanger themselves by letting somebody in who does not meet their rigorous standards.

I agree with pretty much everything you said besides this. Sports will affect your acceptance to Ivies to some degree. If you're not even close to being accepted on your own sports will not do much. If you're close or just below standards and a coach wants you though, you're going to get into the school even if you probably would not have had you been a regular applicant.

Anyways, as for the other schools like Colby, I've heard of coaches giving reccomendations to the applicants for their admissions. It's just a reccommendation though, so it's not like a slot a regular, non-ivy team can sometimes give you (non-d3).

Basically though, your grades will determine a lot for you. If you want to go to an Ivy league school, I suggest you work your butt off Junior year and try for something higher than a 3.2. Lacrosse will help, but it's the school that accepts you.
