alright, this was inspired by stinisonfire, but i've noticed alot of the younger coaches for my varsity team have tattoos/piercings and i was wondering how many of you guys out there do

o and if you're under 13, please don't vote no because we don't expect you to.

** third option ** piercing of some kind

Neither, and don't really plan on it. I'm terrified of needles. But if I had to choose, I would get a tatoo in some spot that it couldn't be seen if I was wearing a t-shirt and shorts, so (high on arm and not on legs).

Tatoos are, on a whole, low class.

As far as piercings go, stick with the ears. Everything else is just rediculus, embarrasing, or low class.

Edit: I apologize to everyone who took this very seriously. If everyone would hold on for just one second, they would notice that I wrote "On a whole". What I meant by that is that I do not like tatoos, but for a good reason, I think they are acceptable.

I realize my post may have come accross as me being a jerk and I apologize for it, I typed it in a hurry and am really not that closeminded. I just dislike it when people get tattoos for no reason and have them all over the place.

I don't have nor plan on getting either, but if I had to pick I would definitely get a tattoo. Peircings just make you look like a tool.

You're entitled to your opinion, and I mine:

-You're uptight and narrow-minded.
-You also might be a conceited jerk if you think you're somehow of a "higher class" than anyone else simply because you haven't been punctured.

Whatever. Your dislike just means more freaky chicks for me :naughty:

Wow. I'm actually going to school to be a teacher, which I'll be finishing up in the next year or so. When I decided to get my tattoo, I put tons of thought into it, and also put it on my body in a place that when I have to put on my "professional" teaching gear, it's not out in public.

I actually lost respect for you when you said basically you're low class if you get a tattoo or a piercing. I could say that anyone who can't even spell a simple word like 'ridiculous' is illiterate and should learn to spell (or at least run a spell check), but that would be an ignorant statement.

I'm not embarassed about my tattoo at all, either.

EDIT:

Nice anklet, I've got one on my left leg too.

I'm not big on tatoos, but cheers to you for getting one for such a good cause. Sorry to hear about your grandmother.

Welcome to low class.

Wow, whoever said tattoos are low class is gonna get flamed by a lot of people on these forums. I have a tattoo on my ankle of an infinity sign (sidewards 8). All my brothers (4) and me have it in the same spot. Infinity never ends, so it means brothers forever.

Yea I gotta back Austin up here...as someone who has a tattoo and plans on getting more, I see no reason why many members of our society look down on them.

To me getting a tattoo is no different then the brand of clothes you choose to wear, just simply another way of expressing ourselves. I know many people of..."Class"....that have several tattoo's.

My tattoo symbolizes eternal life and the father, the son, and the holy spirit. Although not everyone is christian..it is simply a beleif I follow, so how does this make me low class?

Also, do not tell me when I am old I am going to regret getting this. Most of us who get tattoo's put alot of thought into it before we do it, and place them in spots that can be covered up very easily by clothing.

Not to personally attack you or anything but...

What gives you the impression to make the opinion? Not everyone who has a tatoo is low class. Look at Stinson for a great example. Paying gratitude for his grandmother? Yeah how low class right... :whyme:

I have 3 tattoos (and plan on more) and a pierced ear (never really felt the need to pierce anything else but they don't bother me).

and to those who don't like either, as Rockstar said, more freaky chicks for the rest of us who do.

Read my earlier post through completely, I wrote "Oh a whole, tattos are low class". Does "On a whole" mean anything to you, I edited my post above becuase I realize I came off as a jerk, but I do believe that getting a tatoo for a good reason is acceptable.

Stinson, I think your tattoo is for an excellent cause, it actually means something important and I respect that. Now with that being said, I really don't give a care if you lost respect for me. I don't even know you in real life so no loss for me. Now, if you believe a simple typo makes you illiterate, I don't know what to tell you.

If I was a practicing Christian, I would get a tatoo like Sean Penn in Mystic River: http://www.webdiosa.com/images/sp_far.jpg
http://www.tribal-celtic-tattoo.com/tattoo-photos/celtic-pics/aaacros_clover.jpg

I'm actually quite fascinated by Celtic knots, so if I were to get a tatoo, it would probably be something based on that.
Here's an example.
http://www.welshartsarchive.org.uk/galleries/images/Christina_Scurr/Celtic%20Knot.jpg

That being said, I don't really plan on ever getting a tatoo.

I'm going to get a tattoo in college, on the inside of my right foot. It's going to be a lacrosse stick running up the inside (horizontally) of my foot, in the head will be the number 7. I may get another one if I can think of something that I won't regret, but, for right now, I'm not planning on it.

Now, if you believe a simple typo makes you illiterate, I don't know what to tell you.

My point exactly. You said that as a whole, tattoos make you low class and an embarassment. Now, as a whole means EVERYONE IN THAT GROUP.

I made that argument to say that it would be ignorant to call you illiterate because you misspelled a word just as much as it's ignorant to say all tattoos (and yes, that's what as a whole means) make you trashy.

And you're entitled to your own opinion, of course, but to go ahead and say those things makes you a hypocrite (or lower class, your choice) since you said you yourself have a tattoo.

Maybe I'm not making sense, but I sure am confused.

I don't have a tattoo.......did I ever, ever say this? I don't ever want to put one of those on any part of my body.

Are you talking about when I said "Nice anklet, I've got one too"?....because I was reffering to the 'bracelet' on your ankle (an anklet), which I too happen to have.

My apologies on my english speaking. I thought "oh a whole" meant something along the lines of usually.

Does being a teacher not make someone low class? (Not that you are).

Wow man..thats overstepping your boundaries. Not cool.

No, I am not overstepping my boundaries. Teachers can be as low class as anyone.

Maybe my phrasing isn't conveying that correctly, I'm not the greatest when it comes to these branches of English.

Yea im not sure Laxiceman understands the phrase "As a whole" includes everyone in that group.

If i were to say lacrosse players "as a whole" were low class...that would mean all laxers are low class. That is a completely untrue statement and only an example.

If you were to say a "majority" or "good portion" of people with tattoo's were low class then it would be different but irrelevant because that is still a completely unfactual statement.

The point lies in the fact that you have clearly never noticed a good majority of the people who are inked. Walk down the street, there is a good chance the majority of people you pass who look "normal" could have tattoo's you just cant see them.

This is why your argument in unfair in the first place. You dont know everyone who is tattooed because you cant see them. You may see the occasional biker who wears sleeveless shirts and assume, most people with tattoos are like that. You are not taking into account the millions of people who have tattoo's you simple do not see.

Insecure? Well then no harm here bro but you have to sort of understand the statement laxiceman made. "People with tattoo's are low class."

Stinison got a tattoo to commemorate his grandmother, he is simply trying to prove that although he has a tattoo, it has a very deep cause and there is absolutely nothing low class about it. What is there to be "Insecure" about. I think you and laxiceman should meet up and discuss vocabulary.

What people dont understand is that getting tattoo's and piercings can become addicting. I enjoy getting pierced, and i enjoyed getting my tattoo, which is one reason why i want several more. It actually does become an addiction.

While other people have yet an even deeper cause, which is that they do not accept their bodies the way they are, and they see the way that they should look differently in their mind. So they go though the process of extensive body modification to alter their apperance to fit their mind set of how they should look.

Agreed. Tattoo's are more addicting then peircings for me. Im done with mine, having my ears peirced is enough.

Tattoo's are a different story. There are so many different things you can do and so many different places that you can get them. I am constantly thinking about my next tattoo or noticing other peoples trying to brew up idea's for my next one.

i have no problems with piersings or tatoos. i just personally dislike tatoos, any person that gets a tatoo for a great reason i have a deep respect for them, others that do it just to look different or watever wierd reasons there could be i have respect for just not much (i think tatooes look kinda interesting). personally i wouldnt mind piersing my left ear or my tongue but i d never get a tatoo unless something happens in my life. the only reason im hesitant with the thought of tatooes is because here in southern california most people 1) have way way to many that are ugly and weird, and/or 2) that mean nothing and are just there to make them look cool, stand out or are gang related which i dont agree with.
so for anyone that has good reasons for tatoos i respect you (especially stinson for his). thats my 2cents.

i'm not a big fan of piercings. most of the boys i know with their ears pierced are "trashy", so my vision is a bit skewed. i dont mind if they have em though, thats their choice. my girlfriend wants to get a little stud in her nose...im not really sure if i like that too much but whatever she really wants it so i dont care as long as she doesnt get anymore but for all those with piercings, thats cool, i respect you, just to me some are a little extreme.
tattoos are a little different. theyre interesting to look at and are expressions of people. they are especially cool if they have a story behind them or have a meaning. i want to get one that has to do with lacrosse, just because lacrosse is pretty much my life and its my escape from everything.
