suuuuuup. Yes, I know my handles says, " Damn D man", but I'm playing goal.
Anyway, here's my question. A veteran goalie has been teaching me to play high arc because...that's how he's learned it, likes it and says playing a shallow arc, "...stupid. The disadvantages of a shallow are much more apparent, and the advantes are infinitesmal." True? I've been playing high arc, and I really like it.
What are the advantages of playinc a shallow arc?
ha, this will sound stupid.. but I play a shallow arc so I'm closer to the posts and can check them to know where I am when I'm unsure..

when u play shallow arc u have a better chance of saving bounce shots bc u can track the ball longer(true for me at least) high arc is better for saving rips from the outside bc u can stop the ball at slower speed. also you can stuff crease men more easily. as or myself, i play a mid arc, but i tend to play low or high depending on what i think the shooter is doin. u should play wut u feel is more comfortable.

playing high arc allows you to cut off more of the angle from the shooter, which is undoubtably a good thing, also stuffs are easier cause you're closer immediatly.
BUT
the downsides to playing high arc are, while you do cut off more angle if you are perfectly placed (which hopefully you will be), if the shooter moves (which they tend to...) then you have to move farther in order to compensate. Also, one of the best things you can do as a goalie is step forward as the ball is shot, so it ends up that playing a shallower arc doesn't really matter because as you make the save, you'll come out higher, cutting off the angle as you step.
like MClothier said, play what you feel is comfortable and adjust to the individual shooter: if it's effective, it doesn't really matter what you play so long as you can do it.

It think you got these mixed up. High arc is better for bounce shots because you cut down the angle of the bounce and you get your body behind the ball. On a shallow arc you would stop the ball at a slower speed but when i see someone about to rip a shot on me i take a couple of big steps out because it cuts down the angle and gives me more chance saving the shot. I think that shallow arc is bad because i'm afraid of getting my stick caught up in the mesh of the net. :argue

ha, nah I'm just kidding, I'm pretty inexperienced though, so I don't really know what to do differently, I just stand there and focus and try to react quickly enough to stop the shot and not get hurt by it :laugh

i used to play a really high arc but just recently moved a bit back for a 'mid' arc. most these guys have it right though on the bounce shots. i usually take a step towards and to the ball on bounce shots to get my body in front of it.
playing a high arc makes perfect sense, i just had a hard time wiht it.
