My team is about to play in a tournament coming up in Fort Collins. Our coaches have told us college recruiters are going to be there and that we're welcome to talk to them and such. I was wondering what would be some good things to talk about?
Some stats of mine are:
Sophomore Playing Varsity (for this tournament)
Midfielder
Played goalie all last season: Posted a 17-3 record, and 65% save average
Left handed
generally 3.4 GPA
Freshmen team MVP
what would be good overall topics to talk about?

When you're being recruited, it's one of the rare times in life where you actually want to "talk yourself up." You're selling a product and that product is you. Definitely mention any awards you have recieved-athletically or academically. When you start filling out questionnaires, they actually ask you what awards have you recieved and things like that. MVP isn't the greatest award, but it's defintiely something to consider mentioning.
As for actually talking to these coaches, I don't even know if you'll be able to (if they're D1). I know it's really hard to get in contact with coaches because they pretty much can't come in contact with you until you're done and off the field after the tourney ends. But if anything, they'll let you know that they can't talk to you, so you'll figure out if you can or cannot talk to them. When you talk to them, introduce yourself and simply say how you're interested in their program. They'll probably ask you about your grades and any accomplishments that you have, so just be prepared to answer anything of that nature. I don't think it'll get too intense though, assuming you even get to talk to them that long.

So you can talk to them when you're about to enter your sophmore year via Emails or what.

You can email coaches all you want your sophomore year. If you're emailing a d1 coach though, you're not going to get any meaningful responses until September 1st of your junior year. Also, there are strict guidelines about coming in contact with a student-athlete while he or she is at an event like at tourney or a camp. A coach should know and inform you when they're allowed to be in contact with you though, so the situation should work itself out.

You probably don't want to "brag" as in do it in an arragant manner, but you shouldn't hold back on your accomplishments. Some might consider it bragging in some ways, but telling a coach that you were your team's MVP, leading scorer or something like that shouldn't be witheld. You want to tell them anything that has the least bit of significance and would make you look like a good lacrosse player. It's kind of like when you go to a job interview. You're literally told to "brag" about yourself. You don't do in such a way that make you sound like a snob, but you don't hold back on your good qualities and achievements.

It's not bragging really...if you're humble and don't mention anything good about yourself, coaches don't have the time to look everything up about you. They won't assume you're a modest guy, they'll assume you have no accolades whatsoever and are probably not a good player.

Yes, but more then likely you should also tell them what camps you plan to attend or what summer teams your on etc.
Coaches plan there summer recruiting process of going to camps, so dont be afraid to let them know where you will be.

oh man......
goalie was an experience and my time there was well served but there are just certain positions you feel and i was not feeling goalie. in 8th grade i played some long stick mid, they shuffled me into attack over summer, fall ball, and some of indoor, but midfield is more my bag. dont know why.
and i now have a hard earned respect for goalies. :agree:
