I read it for school last quarter. I really didnt like it, I found it very boring, yet all the teachers say its a great novel. The black and white film was just as worst. I fell asleep during the film and sometimes after finishing a chapter im like "wait what did i just read". I dont see whats the greatness in this book
I dont see whats the greatness in this book
It's well written and has a good storyline..
I liked it.

My cousin hated it, I midly disliked it. What really gets annoying is their southern dialect. The movie was pretty boring as well.

Lord of the Rings:

Old Man and the Sea:
old man catches fish
American Psycho:
man kills people.. or did he?
Bible:
guy goes around doing miracles lessons are taught
Lord of the Flies:
kids are stranded on island form tribes and fight etc
Its a good book. I dont see why everyone says its one of the best of all time though. Probably because of the subject it deals with and I guess there arent any books of the time that were that compelling.
I agree. It's a good book and I enjoyed reading it but I wouldn't say it's anywhere near the best book of all time.

It was decent, but nothing special. Its only considered a "great" work because of the topic, if the defendant was white than nobody would care really.

i find if you read a book with the mindset that you are going to hate it you will. thats no way to do anything in life. i found this book surprisingly good. the movie made me want to punt a baby though.

Appreciating classics really is something you acquire after a while. Read the book to be entertained, use spark notes for the analysis and stuff. Schools don't understand that with other forms of entertainment and a shortening attention span of our youth, that you really need to make learning a fun thing, and when you slam kids with tons of busy work, its not fun.
Reread the book some time, just get into the story, its a great one. Really I recommend learning to appreciate what these people have done by writing these stories before you graduate from high school.
I used to hate it all. Now more and more i am beginning to realize how good some of the stuff I read was. (Lots of british literature excluded) rofl...

thats not true..its well written, and the trial is not the point of the book

lol. Same with Martin Luther King, if he would have been a white guy nobody would have cared. Overrated imho.

that's not what it's about, it's about overcoming hate and prejudice to judge a man justly. not based on the color of his skin.

I just finished it last week. The first few chapters are boring, and it's hard to keep focused and not like drift off into some dream land of your own. But it had a really good plot, and teaches a lesson. I liked it, but thats just my opinion.

you didnt remember right. something is mentioned about how killing a mockingbird is sin because they never harm anyone. and they compare tom to mockingbird because he was innocent and the shot him jail because he "tried to climb a fence while trying to run away." which i highly doubt because he got half his arm ripped off in a cotton gin when he was kid.
