I'm looking for some reading material, since I rarely read, I think it maybe good for me as a better way to kill free time, the little that I do have. So I need a suggestion, I want a book that will grab my attention, something that I want to read and keep reading, something that will make me anxious to read more, any suggestions? And a modern book, not like a story that took place way back when.

I dont read much in my spare time either, usually i am on here...

but i am reading a book called Marley and Me about this guy and it tells the story of he and his wife and how they get a dog and their life together and stuff. its sure to give you some laughs, and maybe even some tears. its really good and it makes you really appreciate your dog (if you have one) and if you dont, then it will make you want one...for sure. i strongly recommend this book. i think its by John Grogan or something like that.

Rich guy that works on Wall Street is.. psycho and kills people. It's sort of hard to explain, but it's not a horror or thriller like you would think. It's meant to be a satire of the typical yuppie lifestyle.

Try out Youth in Revolt by C. D. Payne...its a comedy...pretty ridiculous, about a teenager who just cant get anything right. The emotions and stuff that he has are very realistic though so its very entertaining read. I wouldnt do anything for a whole day until i finished it =)

I'll chime in if i can think of anything else.

If you're a football fan, I'd try out Friday Night Lights (true story, not like the show). A little slow at first but once you get into the season, it's very engrossing.

I read plays mostly. Quick, nasty and great characterizations in tight stories. Anyway, try some Neil Labute (fat pig), Adam Rapp(red light winter), Harold Pinter (Betrayal), David Mamet(American Buffalo, Glengarry Glenross).

The Guns of Navarone is good, and its sequel. Tom clancy: Acts of war series.

I ahvent read since like 7th grade though. My readinglevel went down since 8th grade!!! YIKES!

Spare Parts-Similar to Jarhead but much better written and much better storyline. Follows a Marine Reservist through Boot camp and into the Gulf War where he see's a decent amount of combat as the operator of a Light Armored Vehicle. Very good read.

The Ice Man-Not for the faint of heart. Follows the life of the most notorious Mafia Serial killer of all time, Richard Kuklinski. Goes into graphic detail about the men he killed, why he killed them, and how he killed them. Very amazing read if you can handle some killing.

For the Sins of My Father-Book written by Albert Demeo about his father, Mafia man Roy Demeo who was involved with the infamous Gambino Crime Family. Also a very good mafia read.

And of course I cannot leave without mentioning Harry Potter and Dan Brown books which all rock my world.

Agreed

I would also say the Ender's Game series, great books with a good plot line, and some nice subtler aspects. Amazing books if you like science fiction.

Whoever said The Hunt for Red October is right, that is a great book too.

Try The Three Musketeers, took me a year to read it, but well worth it.

i don't have a lot of time like you. so i read comics. Frank Miller is amazing (Sin City, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns) Just find a series you like and start collecting. I also started drawing images that were in my head, and now i draw fairly well just from the images in comics. So that wastes some time too, esp in school.

Prey, by the dude who wrote Jurassic Park, is an AWESOME book. The Hunt For Red October is also great.
Has anyone ever read The Count of Monte Cristo? It's longer than a freakin' dictionary but I've read good reviews.
That is a FANTASTIC book. Long as hell, but nonetheless an AMAZING book.

Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow are two great books if read in succession of each other. Angels and Demons with DaVinci Code are two good books too. Catcher In The Rye is kinda weird, kinda funny, and kinda cool. I thought Lord of the Flies was a great book, since I'm into analyzing the human mind and human actions.

Thats all I can think of right now.

but on the other hand.

Ordinary People by Judith Guest
The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky
1984 by George Orwell
Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson.

And "Revolution on Canvas" is really great if you're into poetry. all the poems are written by members of indie bands during the 20, and 21 first century.

bolded and quoted for emphasis, but then you have to read the rest of the series, until the plot totally switches. which is 2-3 books, i cant remember. all in all there are 7-8 i think? great books tho. the first one mainly deals with a war with aliens that happened twice and all the politics behind that. the rest i thought i wouldnt like as much because it almost switched genres and turned super political, but if you think you can understand most of what their talking about, then it can be a very satasfying read.
