Hey,
I'm pretty new to lacrosse. I've been practicing for awhile now without gloves just shooting, passing, catching, cradling, and scooping up ground balls. Yet, when I started to wear gloves I can't seem to get cradling down, it just doesn't stay in the pocket, my gloves don't give me that range of motion like before. Any body have any good tips for breaking in your gloves? Or any tips to get used to cradling with the gloves on?
Thanks

Is it the cuff thats bothering you? Maybe use a little bit more of your arm since you may be craddling wrong

Your gloves shouldnt change anything. Your form is incorrect. Check the Lacrosse Instruction forum for the fundamental thread. That should help you.

Ya it may be the cuff, I was thinking about taking it off. I just can't seem to keep the ball in the same area of the pocket. I've been used to using a medium amount of wrist and arm, but should I use less wrist motion and more arm??
Thanks

Is you shaft slipping alot? I had that same problem, use some tape. just put some rings of tape where your hands are when you cradle and pass, it gives you alot better grip.
For a while I was only putting tape on the part where I put my hands when I pass/shoot and it definitly helps you alot. Not only do you have good grip, but it acts as a guide and it makes your passes and shots more consistent, because your hand is always in the same spot.
Now I put a criss cross (Like Mark Millons stick kinda) tape job on the top half of my shaft and it really helps when you have gloves on. I feel it gives me alot more control.
I really recomend taping your shaft. If this doesnt fix your problem, thenn you are cradleing wrong.

You shouldnt be using the wrist to the point that your cuff is hitting the inside of your forearm and preventing movement. if you feel like you have to push the cuff against your forearm, then its probrably too much wrist. Try using more elbow/arm

Hey LaxAttack,
Ya, I just threw on some tape, definitely helps. I just got a new STX Bionic and totally forgot to tape it like my other one. I'm also wearing in my gloves a little more and that seems to help. Where exactly should the ball be resting when cradling? I've heard it should be in the mid to bottom region? To answer some of the posts above, I think I've been using to much wrist before I started using the gloves.
Thanks for all your quick replies guys!

depends where you make the pocket. ive seen guys that cradle onehanded with a really high pocket and it just stays up there (usually the ball goes into lower part of pocket on onehanders).

you are probably cradling improperly.. keep the shaft in your fingers and just roll your wrist towards you; there shouldn't be any unnecessary arm movement at all.

yeah its where ever your pocket is.
just throw a ball in, and hold your stick parrallel to the ground, and where the ball sits is where ur pocket is. most likely.
but theres no real place for the ball to ideally sit when your cradling. just make sure its in the head lol

dont do anything with your stick without your gloves on. you are going to be wearing them when you play, so you might as well wear them when you practice. anything else is a waste of time.

Could be one of three things...
1. Your not used to using golves (always have your gloves when practicing)
2. Your gloves are new and possibly need to be broken in
3. Cheap gloves often cause this problem (I sujest buying a higher quality pair of gloves)

Well my gloves are a little more worn in now, seems like everything is ok now. It was just an issue of crackin them in.

your gloves should not limit the motion of your wrists. Make sure they fit to your liking. also when cradling try to start with the shaft resting on your finger tips and curl from there.

loosen the string on the cuff
sounds like you were using too much wrist. but keep using your glove, and you should "Evolve" to become a better cradler and all around player.

take your gloves and tie the fingers down for a day then do it the other way they will be much more mobile
