View Full Version : How do you work just-bought goalie pockets?
Hey, my abyss with 12D mesh just came.. I'm having trouble working it in.. no matter how much I pound on it the pocket is still sooo shallow.. I can't seem to get it to be nice..
also the head doesn't even fit over the shaft.. Brine F-15.. do you know why?

you shouldnt mix differen brands(like stx head-warior shaft) especially if there warrior because the sizes are different. You might have to drill new holes.
As for the pocet thefirst thing yo wanna do is loosen the side walls the pound the pocket and loosen the bottom string
I losened the bottom string when it first came.. but I'm afraid to loosen the sidewalls because if I unstring them to make them looser, I won't be able to string it back like it was, it will be a little worse..
and I know I'll have to drill a new hole, but everyone mixes.. I mixed with other sticks.. it is just that the brine F-15 (not the power grip) is like octaganol, but its like smooth.. and the head has an octagonal cutout that doesn't have smooth edges, so it doesn't fit into the head..
I dunno, can anyone tell me about that? a defenseman on my team said he 'carved his head out' so that his F-15 would fit his defense head.. but I don't know what he meant, and I never talk to him until next lax season, cuz I have no way to get in touch with him..

12 d tends to be tougher than hard mesh, try soaking it some.

by carving out i tink he means he used a knife to cut some of the plastic away to make the shaft fit
alright, I'll try that..
but I still need help, I mean how do you work in your pockets?

or you can jsut dip the bottom of the head into boiling water.. and then stick it onto the shaft and it will fit..
Put conditioner into the pocket... uhhhh... lather it in and then rinse it off and pound it some more

or instead of screwing your warrenty take it back and see if you can trade your shaft back. i'm guessing you bout it online though so try lacrosse unlimited because they accept warrenties nomatter where you bougt it so maybe they'll be nice for this too

Its a goalie head. Really, the chances of it breaking are....what? Ive had my eclipse for a hell of a long time, its still in good shape, and the abyss is thicker. Don't waste your time, just carve the damn thing out, stick it on the shaft and play.
In the case of the pocket, factory strung pockets usually arent that great, but I say do this:
1: Wet the mesh with warm water and scrub it with shampoo or conditioner, to make it a little softer (big holed mesh, USUALLY, is harder to break in, so the shampoo will help.
2.Put a ball where you want the pocket, and stick a 5-10 pound PLATE weight over it, the kind of weights used when you bench press, if you dont know what I mean by a plate.
3. Leave it in over night or for two days maybe, two days if probably better. Take the weight and ball out, mess with the shooters and sidewalls (if you know what your doing that is, but you probably do) and get your pocket the way you want it.
Another way if you dont have all this stuff? Pound the hell out of it after soaking it in warm water, then stuff newspaper or papertowel if you dont have newspaper, inside the pocket, to hold its shape and absorb the moisture, let it sit and voila! A pocket. lol. :agree
cool, thanks
and to Davelax or whatever, I editted that picture myself, please don't use it as your avatar, it is mine..

I had the same problem with my kpro and my eclipse. What i did was take this weird power drill my friend had. And we put an attachment on it that was almoost like a sander but it rotated and i just wore away it in the parts that needed to be smooth.
Take warm water or conditioner to the pocket and pound it, also if you can do what laxdave (not davelax, very confusing) did with the weights.

what i do is soak it in water and then pund it repadely
well my friend just kind of like, put all his strength into it and it popped halfway in.. then he sort of like.. heh.. he kind of hung on it with all his weight and it popped all the way in.. it's so tight now, there's NO WAY that it is coming off haha, didn't even drill a hole in it, doesn't need to be screwed in, or taped on.. it'll stay, haha I can't even pull it off with all my strength..
I don't have any plate weights.. all I have is 20 lb. dumbbells :) so I think I'm going to soak it in water and then put in newspaper like you said and keep that in overnight or something
