Hey guys
I am in pretty good shape, i run a lift regularly, play basketball and lacrosse for teams, football recreationally, and recently when i go for runs, about a mile in my lower back starts to kill. It started probably about a week ago and i just ran through it figuring its just because i didnt stretch right, or maybe i needed to be a little better in shape. But, after a week of it, im kinda wondering if its something else. Just wondering if anyone could shed some light on whats going on.

Your best bet is seeing a doctor, not asking highschools health advice.

My guess would be it's a type of muscle cramp because it only starts about a mile in?

means you have a weak core if im not mistaken, do back extensions and other excersizes to strengthen your back and abs

do you get it when you run your back tightens up so much you can't move? If it is, I had it last year and basically just took 3 days off of no physical activuty and now I always strech my back before I do anything. It used to hurt so much and yours sounds a lot like mine was.

stretching is also a good idea even if it is a one mile run you need to stretch throughly before and after your run

Make sure you stretch your back muscles next time you go out running. If it continues to hurt, then stop running and see a doctor.

yes, get a good stretch in. and if you're outa shape you may be trying too hard to keep up, and it's never good to push yourself OUTSIDE you limits..... push yourself, but keep it in range...
if you're still having problekms see a doctor, or even go to a running shop (not like dicks, but like.... a running shop) and have them check out your feet. because that is crucial to running, everyone has different feet, and it can do a number on your joints if you're not running in the proper footwear.

i dont know when the last time you hit someone(like tackle football or whatever), but the same thing happened to me and it turned out i sprained my back. i started to hurt more and more, and it also hurt when i jumped and breathed. BUT
definately check with your doctor

if you got hit then you are either having back spasms or you sprain your sacroiliac joint. i sprained my sacroiliac joint during football and it was horrible, incredibly painful. your best bet is to stop being a wuss and run through it, it will go away, it did for me.

Are you using new shoes? That could be one source, otherwise check your stride, if you're running with bad form, such as taking short, choppy steps, that can cause back pain.
