Yep second thread on PSP's in the last week, but I need a little advice from you PSP owners soon and I wasn't getting any answers in the megathread.

I am really interested in gettin a PSP, but I just do not know if it's worth it. My friend had one and ended up selling his and I liked it but I don't want to get it and then be like sick of it after like two weeks because it will pretty much empty out my piggy bank.

So I was wondering for all you who own a PSP, From your personal experiences is it worth it? or Is it one of those things that you play for a month and then get sick of it and just never play it anymore?

I am selling it, its cool for for a month.

But my XBOX 360 is the only thing I play games on, my iPod I use for music and my Computer for internet. So I had really know use for it.

The PSP has very long load times and a short battery life.

So not worth the $250 plus games?

No, just go and buy a Nintendo Wii, XBOX 360, or PS3 if you want a good gaming console.

Yeah I mean I was thinking it'd be nice for like long car and bus rides, but unless I would be playing it a lot more than that, I don't think it is wort $250

Yeah I know, I'm sure games will get better though, but if you have one, do you play yours a lot? and how long have you had it?

But the thing is, I don't really play my xbox that much and sometimes I kinda think I would play it more if it was portable and I could take it places, but IDK.

I have one and i love it. It is great when you go int eh car and stuff and i think it has a very long battry life. I dont charge mine for a few days at a time so im not to sure what gigio is talking about. Yea some of the games have long loading screens maby a minute or so but it is deff worth the money. Btw I think they are only $200 now but i have to look later.

Yeah, they are $200 but I would get the bonus pack because I'd need a memory card so with the bonus pack you can get a crappy game, a movie and 1gig memory card for $250

Ouch, that is weak. That's pretty bad, I didn't know that.

I think its like 6 hours but I could be wrong.

I bought one when they came out and traded it for a video iPOD in July. I bought another one in October because PS2 sucks compared to all of the other consoles and I got it for 150 bones. If games were not so expensive it would be worth it. Other wise just buy a console system.

ive had it since 2005, and i used to play it alot. truly does have like 4 hour battery life, BUT only on full volume and full screen brightness. the good games are not half bad, but they are few and far between. in other words, if you do get a psp, read lots of game reviews to see which are worthwhile.

If you travel IT IS A MUST!!! You may need to keep extra batteries in with your games, but it is very fun. It's got good titles like my personal favorite.... Star Wars Battlefront II. If you are more of a Nintendo fanboy, get the DS Lite. It's got Mario and stuff, and it's pretty fun.

i agree with Jephman. I travel alot for work and love my PSP, have had it for about 2 years now and can't travel without it. The battery isn't that bad as I usually just charge it before a flight so I've never had a problem. Battlefront II is sweet and then a couple sports games and you're set for any trip you take

WAY WORTH IT. I can play almost any game made on psp. I can play playstation 1 games on my psp. I can play snes and nintendo 64 games on my psp. Whats not to love? If you already haven't guessed, MY PSP is modded!!!!!!!!!! Watch videos, play music, surf the web, tired thumbs!!

Socom ftb2 is great, and the online games are awesome.

-edit mine gets around 5-6 hours because it reads of the memory stick and doesn't use the motor.

I've never had a real problem with battery life.

I've also only found a very few games where the laoding time was really unbearable (Untold Legens, I'm looking at you....).

For the most part, the games are really well geared towards pick up and play for short spurts with a few notable exceptions: The GTAs (just because you can't really save anywhere, but sleep mode compensates for that), Many of the RPGs, notably Valkyrie Profile (while being one of the best games available, and being an excellent port of a very rare PS1 game has looooooooooooooooong loads, loooooooooonger cutscenes and limited save options, though again sleep mode helps, but makes long car/train/plane rides zip by). For the most part though, most games and being able to go into sleep mode make keep it a viable portable option.

The only thing I'm afraid of is that there are so little games for it that are actually good. It seems to me that it is definitely not worth $250-300

Its all opinion and how much youd use it, i take the train to school everyday and play my firneds online in Madden 07(Great Game). The games definitely arent as good as their ps2 counterparts(stupid no instant replay in Madden) but I have and love the GTAs, NBA 06, Starwars, Madden, that ski/snowboarding game and Need for speed rivals. The battery life isnt that bad because not many times are you gonna be playin for 4 hours nonstop. The charger also has a very long cord which is a plus.

Yeah that's what I was thinkin, I probably won'te be playing for long periods of time anyways. And I know that some better games are coming out such as tom clancy, ratchet and clank (I love that game), a new tomb raider, and many others so the future does look pretty good for the PSP and I think I'm gunna go ahead and get one.

I just got mine for Christmas and so far i like it a lot, i have wirless internet in my house so that is a plus because i can just go on aim on there if i wanted in my room or something like that. The battery life isn't that bad because like Rglax said your not going to be playing games for 4 hours+ a lot, it's really good for travelling and such and does make it go by quicker than it usually would. The online gaming is really cool because a lot of games are only fun on multiplayer and the psp lets you do that there.

i have one and i think it is great. but i have friends who sold theirs because they didnt use it. so my advice is if you geton use it to all its capabilities (sp) like music, videos, pictures, and games. If you just want a solid portable gaming system i say nintendo DS

Yeah I looked into DS, but the games for it suck, they're all like either 2d puzzle games or mario games,

but anyways, I think I'm ordering a PSP later tonight.

For games I don't have too much money so I think I'm gunna get two games that have gotten high ratings but are cheap: Mega Man: Powered Up (it's 2d, but it looks pretty sweet) and Twisted Metal: Head On

Any info on these games?

I personally have both and I like the DS for short bursts and the PSP for more elongated playing. The Video iPod though, gets me through anything. God bless the Pirate Bay.

i wouldnt reccomend getting a psp, i won mine when they first came out and they arnt too special. The battery charge is very short(6 hrs at most) and the games take a very long time to load. The games also arnt that great and arnt that exciting because they arnt very long

I wouldnt get it, i never play it and its not worth the money. Its also been around a while, why dont u stick it out and wait until the next generation of handhold consoles comes out?

Eh....well im not going to lie and say that as a gaming device I use it even half as much as my DS however it has a serious lack in titles with grand theft auto being the only really good ones and even those have console versions that play much better battery life was a disapointment...but its stregnths lye in its versitility
i use the wifi internet on it every once in a while and i use the RSS chanell to download music videos and its a good movie/music player assuming you have the money for a big enough memory stick but better than a ipod..
i dont think so

PearlJam9

It only has 4 hours of battery life.
Highest brightness with a game that has a lot of stuff for the psp to process and assuming im playing wifi which eats way more battery i can run my battery dry in under 3 hours
and i ran the battery compleatly dead and had to buy a new one which was not cool
