I'm a young lacrosse player, I will be playing my 2nd year of Midget this season, which starts in late April.

My goal and dream is to make it to the NLL. I have been training for the upcoming seson since August.

Something I have noticed is that almost every player in the NLL is from Ontario. I live in Winnipeg Manitoba. A few Winnipeggers are playing in the Ontario Junior League which gives them a shot and getting to the NLL. So how can i get recruited to the OLA or, is it possible to make it to show in Manitoba?

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated

If you are young..honestly there is no way you should be thinking about Pro Lax yet. Not every NLL player is from Ontario..even us Americans make it to the NLL.

Wanna get to the NLL? Play everyday..run..work out...and dedicate your life to lax. For now..it might be a bit early to start worrying about Pro Lacrosse.

yea- never eat junk food, work out every day run, and get nasty like gait with a stick (both hands... and feet)

Getting on a good Junior A team in either BC or Alberta is your best bet, most of the talent comes from there. You should e-mail a team and ask when tryouts are. Because it's played during the summer you have the option of living and working in the city, some teams will help you with accomodations. Junior B does have guys drafted but if you're good enough go for A.

It used to not matter if you went to university but now more and more people are getting drafted because of their US college experience so you might want to consider that though it's not neccesary.

You are a 2nd year midget so your 15/16 which meens you still have 5 or 6 more years until draft day.

Out of college. So the average age is 22.

dont worry about it. worry more about being a kid and having fun. Lax is a game, never forget that, its meant to be fun and enjoyed, so do it to an extent that you enjoy. i know some people can live it, and for some people its a secondary sport. some people are just not meant to go the pros, and if you do nothing but lacrosse, and your one of those people, then your in trouble and you could have done alot better things with your life than just lacrosse, i.e. musical instrument(s), friends, school, etc. focus more on school too, should be #1 priority.

but good luck and i hope you do make it to the pros.

in the offseason. you should try some other sports, like basketball. that will help out with lacrosse as well.

i would not want to go pro unless i had a solid good paying job that i can live off of, because those guys dont get much money for playing. like andy corno works at a pizza shop in the offseason. im not saying u shouldnt pursue your dream but make sure u can make a good living while doing it.

Sorry to revive this thread, but its not too old. I just had to say that that is not true at all. I'm personal friends with Andy and he does not work at a pizza shop. He has his own restaurant near Maryland University which sells pita pocket sandwiches/wraps. And he just started his own youth lacrosse league called Leaders lacrosse.

I mean yeah being a pro doesnt have that great of a pay, but it doesnt mean you're going to be working a highschool type of job.

Yeah, to build off of what laxkid said, It's cloise to impossible to make a living just playing lacrosse. I would first focus on having a solid job that makes good money.

Now I'm not trying to get you down or anything, I think that's great that you want to carry lacrosse to college and beyond, I want to too. All I am saying is don't rely on nothing but lacrosse to make your living. honestly jiust play everyday, run, play wallball, and get your name out there. Tryout for state teams and local travel teams. Even if you don't make it, people will at least know who you are and bigger and better teams will give you a second look.

You got to take risks, man. That's all I got to say. Good luck my friend.

don't be fooled by the sport being "new". MLL guys are just as strong/fast as many NFL guys there are exceptions but there are some real beasts in the pro's.

The athletic ability in lacrosse in general is WAY weaker than all of the major sports like Basketball, Football, and Soccer. I was on a freshmen soccer team where my athletic ability was not noticed at all, I barely fit in, and we lost every game so we weren't even good. And I'm a on a lacrosse team now that has won 4 state champs in a row and people don't stop talking about my athletic ability. If you compare Mikey Powell to Kobe Bryant I think you will find a large difference. Soccer players have INSANE endurance, Basketball players have crazy hops and speed, and football players range in their strong points.

If your a struggling athlete in the major sports you could start playing lacrosse and get noticed. Its harsh, but all the star players at my school were kicked off/cut/quit the big sports.

I definetly agree. Not everyone will make it to the pro espically the nll. I;m sorry to burst your bubble but the nll is one of the hardest leagues to get into because they have a bench limit. Some thing like noyl 22 guys per team. 2 are goalies. I hope you make it but focus on school. Smart players usually do well.

Good luck going pro.

i dont agree with that at all. the star player on my team started on football as a freshman on a pretty good team and i was a backup on varsity as a freshman.

That may be the case in Kentucky, but that's definitely not true when you start playing some real competition.
