Even though pretty boy is getting old....it is great news for soccer in the US as a whole.
He is probably going to be a top 4 player.

well its not as if hes out of money. i mean $128 million, WOW! i guess as long as he's happy im happy for him. he wasn't getting played in madrid and its not as if theyre doing 'galactios' at the moment is it.
i hope he tears it up over there. im not too familiar with us football, but i guess he'll get started most of the time. he's still got it.

I am a huge MLS fan and let me say this. This is great for American Soccer. One by One players will be coming over to the MLS because they are tired of being these huge celebrities over seas. Here they can play soccer, Make money, and be in America. I Wish Beckham would have come to New York Redbulls but im sure Bruce Arena has his wish list. Hopefully more people will start watching the MLS.
Edit: POST 1,400

It's a pretty big move for the MLS which is good to see as I'd really like to see the MLS expand to be a much more influential domestic league but there still needs to be several changes with league structure I feel as well. The addition of some more well known players however will bring more attention to the league and hopefully promote the expansion of the league.

Brazilian..he said for his last couple years of soccer he would like to play in the US.
The fact that Beckham actually made the move will make it alot easier for other players who were considering the same. Its all for the benefit of soccer globally.

I hope I make that much in my lifetime career...
Sure it would be great to get some of the greats over here, but Who is going to stop Ronaldinho or Christiano? No one. This is great for American soccer though, this is definetely going to help it gain popularity. Hes making 250 million dollars over 5 years. Holy cow.... This is great oppurtunity for Beckham, he is expanding his popularity to just about everywhere, while taking in more money that he doesnt need.

You know i saw this coming, he has always liked the US a little too much ha ha ever since leaving MANUTD there has been talk about playing in the states. Dont know why, maybe he wants to be as well known in the US as he is around the rest of the world. I know that the US is the only place (ok Canada also) that he can basicly walk around and do normal stuff that the rest of us do.
Any way good for him. I just read that he will be making about 50 quid a minute over the 5 yrs (about 100 US i think ) not bad for a Footy player in the USA

Honestly i think he is to good to go and play in the US at the moment, He could have done at least another 2 or 3 seasons in any of Europe's top leagues at least, Honestly i think he will dominate the MLS for the next few seasons.

The Galaxy aren't paying him $250 million. Most of that is endorsements. He is making single figure millions from the Galaxy.

nice, i have to say i am kind of tired with the same MLS players, but i did enjoy the MLS finals. but this is, like everyone said, a huge move for MLS to further expand into the US community with soccer.

this is great. i hope he brings his wife.
but on a more serious note. i think that other footballers from all across Europe will be more open to coming to the USA to play. Ronaldo (Brasil) has expressed interest in coming over to the states to play. i this this is great for American football. although i'd rather watch an EPL game than a MLS game.

well i think its kind of sad that the only incentive to come to the mls is 250 million dollars...however, maybe this is a step towards getting good players without paying that much money.

That's one reason why Beckham fits really well for this. He's not the type of player that will shred defenses with speed or strength, so he won't be amazingly dominant. He'll be a great distributor, and deadly free-kick taker.

Beckham definitely will not dominate the MLS. MLS isn't a better league but it's very physical and rough, plus some teams still play on grid-iron turf. There have been great players in the past (Lothar Matthaus, Luis Hernandez, Carlos Hermolloso) that have come to MLS in the past only to embarass themselves.
And secondly, like LameR said, Beckham isn't a dominating striker type of player, he prefers to play the mid, slow the game down, and distribute passes.

Think about it as making $142,000 a day. I couldn't spend a days salary in a week -let alone spend a mil every week.

i respect him alot for doing this, i think hes at a good stage in his career to do it. his skill it starting to slow down to play in LaLiga, and he will have fun adn help football grow alot in the US. plus lord knows the MLS could use an overhaul. its an absolute crap leauge.

He could still play in any top league in europe, for at least another 2-3 seasons, And he could still force his way back into the england squad if he wanted to. The MLS is about the standard of washed up former european starts no the standard of a player that is good enough to represent England still.
I don't blame him for wanting to help US football(soccer) but i think he has gone to MLS to early in his career.

the only reason beckham is coming over is because he's over the hill he's probably only going there for marketing purpouses just as much as playing.

Beckham has still got it. If you remember Beckham was the one that stepped down from being England captain all by himself not even a year ago!! In some of the world cup games, he was the guy who kept England in the competition! There is no doubt that he still loves the game (and no doubt as a result of the ridiculous amount of money he receives), and I believe that the MLS will definetly become a bigger league!!
p.s. In the time it has taken me to write this post Manchester United have just scored two goals in the Premiership!!

in game play, everything Beckham does:
creates more opportunities for his team to have success,
limits the opportunities of his opponents.
He is perhaps the most effective player in the game today. He will be a help in every way to the Galaxy, the MLS, and american soccer development.

this just furthers the truth that soccer is an absolute joke. this is pretty much the equivilent of an mll star playing on a bantam team. and who cares about game play and what he can do.. any DECENT soccer player goes to europe. mls would be like tier8 euro soccer. again soccers stupid

Soccer is NOT stupid. Soccer is one of the coolest sports in existence. I don't think Beckham brings much besides ticket sales, and probably some decent set pieces.

you are one stupid close minded jerk. get the hell off of these forums. you are a liar, and an embarassment to ANY sport. I have kept my mouth shut while seeing you post rediculous comments about soccer, and i will not go any longer without saying something. You have made your point that you dont like soccer numerous times now, so stop freakin repeating your damn point. this just furthers the truth that YOU are the absolute joke, not soccer.
as for beckham, i cant wait to come see him iplay in toronto. even though i live an hour and a half away, i wil probably get tickets to watch him play.

Dude,
at the risk of being acused of flaming, if you don't respect all sports, how can you respect your sport, and how can you have any self-respect.
All sports as personal expression, creativity, and specialized skills have beauty...that's why we play 'em...that's why you play lacrosse, eh?
Why would you deny that another person would find the same things in another sport, including soccer?
Please allow me to encourage you to broaden your perspective in this.
Thanks!

The contract is actually only $50 million guaranteed, $400k is payed by MLS, the rest by the Galaxy. The remaining (up to) $200 million is in incentives including a percentage of Jersey sales (I dunno if it is only Beckam jerseys or all Galaxy jerseys) and a percentage of the ticket revenue, plus some other stuff.

50 million is still a good load of money, especially if youre going to dominate

But Beckham is not going to dominate the league. He will be dangerous and is the best player in the league. But i dont think hes going to be putting up 4 goals every game while leading the Galaxy to an undefeated season. That money is for the last name.

People are both severely overestimating Beckham's skills and severely underestimating the talent level in MLS.
