Great story... if people can get over the fact that it doesn't read like People magazine, I think they'd appreciate it more. When I read it in 8th grade, half of my classmates were like, "Wow, Charles Dickens sucks. Why didn't he just write the book like a normal person?" :whyme:

Worst story of all time. We read it this year and everybody hated it. It was so boring and pointless.

i hate dickens. absolutely hate him. i think he spent way too much time going over the stupidist details. which he did because he got paid by the word. if i got paid to write a book by the word i would do that too. but anyways, i hate him. i read that one summer (it took me the whole summer to read it. to put things in perspective, i can leisurely read a 400 page hardcover in one weekend). then we had to "read" a tale of two cities. i read the first paragraph, and then used sparknotes for the rest. i HATE dickens. horrible horrible horrible. i would rather die than read another one of his books.

I personally thought the book was pretty good. I didn't hate it or love it in particular. By the way, for our project after the book we did a video on the fight between Herbert and Pip. Pretty entertaining if you ask me.

kev, are you for real? 7/10? more like a 2/10 and that's being gracious.

I hated that book, the only good part about that unit was that our teacher let us watch the south park episode of great expectations..

oh and goodluck next year, the books don't get any funner.

"Classic" literature is overrated. Books and literature are much like art in my opinion. There is no single definition of what makes a book or a painting good. It's all about personal enjoyment and what an individual likes and finds beauty/pleasure in.
