alright here the deal
i just turned 17 a few days ago
and I'm only a sophomore. Why? I have no idea. I didn't fail any grades.
I've had my drivers, license since the beginning of my sophomore year, so about halfway through my 16th year. I should have gotten it last year, but i was a freshman so i couldn't take drivers ed, and my mom didn't want me to take it privately, so i had to wait until the summer. Well for the whole time I've had my license, maybe about 5 months, i have not been able to drive just because i don't have insurance. It's my step dad that is in charge of this, and will not get it for me. On Christmas eve, he gave me a car, and told me that I will have insurance on January 1st, which is logical since it is that start of a new month. So i waited, only to find out that he says it takes a few days for it to get worked out. So i wait a few more days, only to find out that he decides that it will be my birthday present for the next week. So I wait again, only to find out again that it takes a few days. Now that I keep asking him about it, he keeps telling me to wait and be patient, but I think that he's just full of it. I've waited 17 years already.
It's not that he can't pay for it, he says its too "dangerous," or he's just lazy. What do you guys think? Is there like a way for me to get it by myself? I'm having a lot of transportation problems, such as waiting 2 hours everyday after school to get picked up, and I'm sick and tired of it. I can afford insurance myself, i just don't know how to set it up.
Thanks, I'm just in a really bad mood and need to vent.

There is no way for you to get insured by yourself. No way.

No one will insure a 17 year old unless the parents are involved..even then you are still a huge liability. Beleive me..I have been through some real "fun" times with insurance. It sucks. Part of life.

My parents wouldn't let me use my computer, because I didn't have anti virus software... I told them I could just download some free stuff, but noooooo, I have to wait almost a month for them to get off their lazy butts and buy Norton. Not like it mattered. I just got on when they all went to sleep. So, was kinda (ok not much) on the same boat as you.

Safe auto might be able to help you out. They have 'minimum coverage for minimum budgets' which means their clients are mostly teenagers whose parents are not helping them out with car payments/insurance/gas. 'Give em a call'

I dont reco you getting insurance without your parents help bro.

For one if you get in a serious accident..with minimum coverage..haha have fun paying for that. Especially if you hurt the person in the other car or yourself. Medical bills total in the thousands.

Also if you get in an accident without insurance under your parents name, they will likely drop you immediatly and make it impossible for you to get coverage until it clears off your record. Just chill.

Dude..I got two tickets as a junior and lost my liscense for 6 months. I am a freshman in College with no car because I cost to much to insure over 2 years later because of those 2 stupid tickets. So beleive me..it could be alot worse.

Almost quit lax? Call some friends to come pick you up. I have to bum rides everywhere I go. It could be worse.

Unless you live in Wisconsin where you dont have to have insurance. Most rediculous thing ever for the record.

I wasn't allowed to get my licence until I was 20, so quit yer whining. They gave you a car for chrissakes! I didn't get my first car until after I turned 30....and I had to buy it myself. That was just over a month ago.

Walk, take the bus, or get a friend to drive you home from school. Or better yet, spend those 2 hours doing your homework or working out.

Then its your "fault" so stop whinning about it. Sit down, do your homework.
