View Full Version : In What Order + Another Shaft...Now?

Ok, so this year will be my first year of lacrosse and I've been practicing hard since school got out. I bought a crappy 40 dollar stick at a local sports store and ordered a Nitrous Head that I'm expecting to be here either today or sometime next week (hopefully Monday). I have 2 questions, that kind of go together; In what order should I buy my remaining gear and should I buy a decent shaft now or wait until my other gets broken? I was thinking of buying gloves next, then probly either a helmet or a shaft, then the rest, but I obviously don't know anything so I need some input.

gloves next, unless your team doenst supply helmets.

expensive shafts are a HUGE waste of money, anyone who thinks they are going to score more goals with a Ti shaft vs any other kind is delusional.

40$ shaft? You probably have an F15 shaft right? Read the side and tell us. Im pretty sure you probably do. If you do, you got yourself a nice set-up right there, so now, like spennty said, get gloves.

I think he means he ordered a $40 dollar complete stick, otherwise how else would he be practicing? I'd buy the gloves also next so you can practice with your gloves.

My bad, my bad, I didnt read much into it. Your probably right. Well since its probably an aluminum shaft then, keep it for the summer and buy a little better one for your season. Aluminum doesnt last in HS lax =/ Atleast in past experiences anyway.

Yeah it was a $40 dollar complete stick. What you guys have said so far is pretty much what I was thinking. I don't think my team supplies helmets, I really doubt it, but I'll check into it today. Thanks for the comments.

yea gloves then helmet so you can get used to playing w/ those two things.

id be REALLY suprised if your team doenst supply helmets. from your profile it looks like you are in HS, i hve yet to hear of a HS team that doesnt supply them.
talk to the coach, they may do a group order where you can save some $$ if you do have to purchase one, also you will probably have to buy a specific color helmet
the new NFHS rules require matching uniforms including HELMETS and GLOVES.

its time to go talk to your coach or school AD

and i still maintain you are better off buying another $40 stick than any $100 Ti shaft

My HS doesnt supply helmets... Lots of them don't in our area

Lamer can you tell us the name of the shaft and the original head?

ASJT3
07-09-2004, 09:12 AM
Really? But that doesnt mean they have to supply them with helmets? our coach gives us stickers to put on our helmets.

With shafts you really only have two options. For $33 you can get the strong, 7.2 oz f-15.
For $45 you can get the 5.0 oz DB803, which is still strong but not nearly as strong as the f15.

Ok I'm not entirely sure on either of these but the shaft (I think) is a Brine F10 Powergrip, head...not very sure but I'd guess a Blaze. I had no idea what I was doing when I bought it (still don't).

OK, you gotta lose that stuff. The blaze is one of the worst heads ever and PG shafts tear up your gloves. If you have a nitrous and play middie, get the 803. Your stick would weigh only 10.2 oz (very very light) and the shape on the 803 doesn't REQUIRE grip tape. no shaft requires it, but then again its a very nice shape compared to normal shafts.

yea all of the debeer shaft are rounded and it gives you a great feel. the first time i got my 803 i just picked it up and it feels like its meant to be in your hands. powergrips are like all pointy and annoying.

Yea i wouldn't go with the F10 buddy. Our team started with twenty of those and we ended with 15 of the because they were breaking, well but your a middie and the ones that were breaking were the defence shafts, but still any aluminum shaft would only last a season. Depending how much you wanna spend but the F15 ($45 in greatalantic catalog, shoparound you will find a better price) is a good shaft, alot of us switch to that and none of them got a ding in them. But if you get a colored shaft it will rub off on too your gloves (or hands). But get gloves first,Tridents are pretty good, i only used in the stores but they feel pretty comfortable. Do not get deBeer intrepids, they only last a season (well unless you want broken fingers) the leather strechs out and some finger can come out from under the padding. You could possibly avoid this by not letting it get wet (imposible in washington) but i wouldn't count on it.

Heh, sounds good. CSweet I live in Oregon so it wouldn't be much better here. OK, I just talked to one of my friends about if the team loaned out the helmets or ordered them together and he said that last year that there was a package that a coach provided or something that provided all of the gear needed. The guy I was talking to got a different package without going through the coach at a shop here in town and said it was about 30 bucks more but a ton better stuff. I think I'm probably just going to order my stuff online as the money comes to me. I'll try to get all of the pads at once so it hopefully won't be as expensive but the gloves, shaft, and helmet I'm going to get as soon as I make the money for it. Do you guys think that's a good order to get them in? Gloves, then shaft, then a helmet?

i reccomend stx ignitor gloves, i've have a pair and they feel great on my hands -they feel like their arn't even gloves it is so easy to go from cradling with barehands to cradling with ignitors. Yes i also have a brine f10 shaft w/ a radius head, it will have to do me for now, later I am getting a debeer 803 and a nicer more offset head lol

i reccomend xfactors ne of them go w/ gels if you have the money and i also recomend the prostars by warrio. both are very nice gloves a little pricy for prostars but great.

Sorry, but there's no point in buying 9 year old style gloves when you can get far superior ones (Ignitors) for $30-$40 more. And please use the edit button, it's there for a reason.

Sorry I don't know why I did that

yea but it sounds like hes low on money, i would get a c2 if he needs to, i mean its his first year and he doesnt even know if he likes it, i would get brine spartan or avalance pads if you can find them, they work really well and are very cheap, gloves i would get x factors or maybe go to the classified section and post for cheap gloves and see what you can get sometimes ppl like to ditch gloves for new ones, while i agree that a Ti shaft wont score more goals for you it will statistically last longer than a plain aluminum shaft and when you play college sometimes you get pretty bad hits on your shafts. also for arm pads i would get some spartan or something fairly similar, most everybody has problems with theres the biggest thing to remember is the size too big and they fall right off no matter how good they are. thats just what i know from myself starting out and researching a lot about products. ps i dont know much about the 803 i heard its good as well as f15 i like warrior too.

as before i reccomened stx ignitors for gloves
here are my other reccomendations
mask: Cpro "cascade" I just got one and it has been the best purchase i have ever made for lax, it fits my head perfect and has nice nice vision"
shaft: db803
head: nitrous, prophecy, torque/trition
shoulder pads: brine spartans or bine tridents
arm guards:brine tridents or supercorsses if u have the $

The thing is, right now I don't have any money. But, as I make money from doing various odd jobs, I'm going to use most of it for buying LAX gear. I don't know if the price will be a factor yet or not because I don't know if my parents are going to help me out or not.

ASJT3

Then do what I did: buy a used lacrosse helmet!! Used gear is so much cheaper, I bought my first longstick, Edge on a klyte, for $40. U could also buy used rib pads too. See if there's a Play-It-Again SPorts near you. Like most of the people here said, just buy the F15 because its pretty cheap and durable.

Ace~of~Hearts
07-10-2004, 10:51 AM
yes you could buy used gear at play-it-again sports, off ebay, or you could see if anyone on your team is going to be getting rid of some gear for some new stuff and buy it off them

OR go to ****'s, that's d.ick's, and buy some ventilator pros or whatever for $60-$70 dollars. I still have mine that I bought over a year and a half ago. Love them, too.

on Lax.com, L33 are only 34.90, a pretty sweet deal for a such a great pair of gloves.

Umm I live in Maryland, ya know, one of the biggest lacrosse hotbeds in the world? Only schools who get helmets are private schools, so spenny you must be watching more private schools play than public.

i almost sure our school (public) is getting helmets, but out school over does everything so...
